- Join me on a wander around Leander Rowing club!
A lot of people have asked for this to be done and I have been waiting for the opportune time to do it! With Henley Royal Regatta coming up next week and the club almost fully dolled up I thought it would be great to show the club in all its glory! The Club isn't full finished for the regatta and there is a lot more to discuss about the history of the club itself that I would love to cover in another video at another time. I hope you enjoy this tour!

The oldest building, now occupied by a rowing club, is Furnival Sculling Club at Hammersmith in London. Their boathouse started life as the Red Lion pub and is shown on maps dating from before 1840

I’m proud to belong to the oldest club in the US, Bachelors Barge Club, 1853, in Boathouse Row, Philadelphia, but Leander is one impressive club! So much history! Oooh yeah! Great tour! Hey, if you come to Philly stop by our club!

In the 90’s, right around the time Borat paid a visit to the HRR, I was a relief chef for a few days there. Don’t remember the kitchen being so extensive-but it must’ve been.

No, you can apply to row at the club and your application would be assessed on an individual basis!
@@CameronBuchan WHEN I WENT FOR TRIALS WITH NCRA BACK IN 1992 U HAD TO BE PART OF A CLUB MINE WAS STOURPORT I USED TO CATCH A TRAIN ON A FRIDAY NIGHT TRAIN ALL WEEKEND A COME HOME ON A SUNDAY NIGHT WORK ALL WEEK AND REPEAT AT THE SCULLERS HEAD SEAN BOWDEN SAID TO MY DAD WHAT WERE MY INTENSIONS WAS I GOING TO MOVE TO NOTTINGHAM TO TRAIN FULL TIME BUT GOT TO WORK TO LIVE SO CHOOSE BREAD AND BUTTER OVER A ROWING CAREER ROWED AS A CLUB ROWER FOR MANY YEARS AFTER IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SOMETHING OF THE WALL TRAINING WISE LOOK UP WOLVERHAMPTON TOUGH GUY PERTON ITS ONE MUDDY PARTY LOL IN THE WINTER

Why a hippo?
Ote that women were not allowed to row in the Olympics until 1976 and were not allowed to be members of Leander until 1998. The Sports Council gave Leander a grant for refurbishment in 1998 with the proviso that they have open membership. The gradual addition to women's racing at Henley Royal Regatta has its own slow history. So I was underwhelmed by all the old men's trophies.
