Edith Stein is such a beautiful soul, Auschwitz was a work camp however and not a concentration camp.

Edith was never an aethist. She just stopped praying. Read about her before you mispost the facts of her life.

I'm very tempted to give this a thumbs down. Did I hear correct that this person is a SAINT? Also why would the Church be giving her special treatment during that time when she was CATHOLIC? Or as typical, was she somehow still Jewish. I guess the Catechism of baptism is of no effect if we're not part of the same RACE when baptized. Yes you read that right go look it up if you don't believe me. This sort of thing was NEVER supposed to happen in our Church. Did she raise her hand claiming to be Jewish in her nun habit? But somehow this crept into into the Church. And in my mind all signs point to a single Pope where things started to get really bad. But that's likely my imagination and evil within me. Romans 1:7 says 'TO ALL WHO BE IN ROME'. Maybe Pope's should be limited to Italy as Romans 1:7 implies. I don't know what else to say.

Yes, she's a saint because she turned away from atheism and devoted the rest of her life to Christ. I think she received "special treatment" during the war because the Nazis hunted down Jews even if they converted to Christianity. Then again, the Nazis did kill plenty of Catholics (e.g. St. Maximillian Kolbe) so she could've been sent to Auschwitz regardless.

She is a saint because she lived the rest of her life striving to be loyal to God and His Church. Her atheist past does not make her unworthy of Sainthood. Same with her Jewish Heritage.
