I wish his books were translated into English. Love the Tainted Grail writing and story so much! It’s the first board game I’ve played where I thought: this would make an incredible streaming TV series
Tainted Grail's combat indeed innovative, and I can see the appeal, but really only for solo or 2 player. Playing the game with 4 players, it was much too long to have 1 player 'doing their thing' whilst the others sat there 'like stuffed chooks'.
Received my copy today and it's taking pride of place on my shelf of shame. Just need to finish Sleeping Gods, Lord of the rings journeys in middle earth, Roll Player Adventures and ISS Vanguard first..... Hopefully I'll be finished in time for Arydia... 😂
I love myself the idea of a campaign game. I have Oathsworn, pandemic legacy, Gloomhaven: Jaws, and Kings Dilemma. The sad thing, as you said, is the commitment and the required player count. Just requires to remember all the rules, stick to the game and not play anything outside of it. I was only able to get into the first mission/session of them and then they just sit on my shelf :( I can't see myself buying another campaign game just so I can stare at it on my shelves :P
Loved your review! Im at the end of Chap 6 and playing it solo 2 handed with Gerdwyn and Osbert. If you aren't going to use the Fall of Avalon 2.0 upgrade pack, I will buy them from you. Great job!
Price is a major part of the equation. We can get 2.3 games for the price of this 1 game. Is this as fun as 2.3 other games? This is something I take into account. This was a great video, Luke.
IMHO yes, it is, at least for me. Granted, there are a few exceptions let's say you buy Inis and Marvel Champions Core box and an expansion box... maybe I would take that, if they were my only board games.
I really enjoyed your thoughts on this game, as I am still waiting for my copy. Tainted Grail has been the most fulfilling campaign I have played, and I look forward to returning it to the table. I would enjoy hearing your comments when you have finished. Cheers
Hi, my main gripe with the game is that some of the interactions with the events/random events decks are so confusing. Especially with the special events cards. Probably I completely misunderstand it. Can anyone explain it to me please?
Is there any replayability in this game? AR mentioned in the campaign that it would be more replayable. I want to get more for my money than 1-3 playthroughs
I loved my limited experience with the first game but the opportunity to set it up and leave it set up was greatly minimized so I never got very far. Finally started having opportunities to play but discovered the were releasing new rules updates so put it on the back burner until those arrived. Everything came in a few weeks ago along with Kings of Ruin. Now I'm trying to decide which to play first, the original or the new one. Leaning towards Kings of Ruin at the moment. And I have all of the gameplay elements including extra expansions from the first campaign. What would be your advice for diving back into Avalon? Does it make a difference if you know the first story when playing the second?
Great review. Thank you. l'll be soloing this beast, but it seems you don't really recommend true solo. What are your thoughts on how it would be two-handed?
It's difficult but it's not as grindy as the original. There aren't any menhiers to light so exploration is more free. Plus, since you're supposed to take a character that has finished a campaign, you start off pretty strong which balances it out @@TheBrokenMeeple
Can't you get one direct from the publisher? Not looking to sell mine separately because I still do need to try Red Death at some point and if I do sell the old stuff, people are going to want that kit.

Yeah I don't think it's a group game honestly.

Probably going to need it if I don't keep the OG TG stuff though.
Mine came today …. Will replay the original game using the new rules and have some fun! Then onto KoR
Enjoyed your comparison to other campaign games you've played - seems to be omitted from a lot of reviews of this type.
Yeah people don't offer many comparisons or use weird ones at best.

Great editing on this one 😂 I'm excited to dive in. I finally got around to finishing up the original campaign. Working on the expansions now
Hope you enjoy it!

Pal and I loved the first campaign and the prequel campaign. Looking forward to this one.
Hi, my main gripe with the game is that some of the interactions with the events/random events decks are so confusing. Especially with the special events cards. Probably I completely misunderstand it. Can anyone explain it to me please?
Hard to say, though to be honest you could just house rule the random event deck out and only use it as a game timer.
Is there any replayability in this game? AR mentioned in the campaign that it would be more replayable. I want to get more for my money than 1-3 playthroughs
I say two playthroughs are your best expectation. There are two clear distinguished paths you can follow and 4 characters.
Ooh yeah, was looking for this one, lets see it.
Please make a video about the differences for the 2.0 version
The Kickstarter projects for Kings of Ruin and the publisher website should herald these details.
Thank you very much! Did you (or are you) enjoy the last chapters as you did the first ones? It did not become a bit samey for you?
Story wise they were good but mechanics wise, it was a little stretched out.
@@TheBrokenMeepleThanks; So still a 9? :)
@@Arnikoochak yeah overall

Well I mean I'm still enjoying it true solo, it's just a harder challenge. Two handed takes some piloting but it's doable.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Good to hear. Thank you.
How are the single shot mini campaigns?
Haven't tried them, jumped straight into the big one.
@@TheBrokenMeeple hope you can review that too😊
I have not played kings of ruin yet. But you HAVE to play Red Death. It was my favorite campaign from the original series
Isn't it crazy stupid hard though?

How many hours in total do you think the entire campaign will take? Excited to try it
Somewhere between 30-50 I reckon
Excellent review
Thank you kindly!
Send me your upgrade kit please Luke! I've been looking for one

Blue Spoilers on the table 🤦
Lol you are 5 chapters in but I just received my copy yesterday….
Well hurry up and play the damn thing. Some of us missed the kick starter entirely and are waiting for a retail release lol
