Which color comes to mind when you think of Korea?
Most of you might think of a dull, achromatic color of the city.
However, there are a lot of different colors in Korea and through this series, we will introduce you to some of them.
00:23 Purple Bridge - This is a bridge that connects Banwoldo Island to Bakjido Island. It is very long and takes about two hours walking slowly by foot. The ocean view from here is very cool and attractive.
00:39 Purple Village - It is a village in Banwoldo Island with real residents! The interesting part to note is that the residents like to wear purple clothes too.
00:48 Banwoldo - The island cannot be accessed by car, so if it is too hard for you to walk, you can take the electric car provided here. Another option is to rent a bicycle to appreciate the beautiful hue of purple around the place.
01:04 Sinan Kidong three-way street - Nearby Purple Island, there is a mural! The couple pictured in the mural actually live there, and every once a while sneak up on visitors taking pictures. By the way, watch out for cars since it is on the road!
01:29 Bakjido restaurant - This is a restaurant on Bakjido Islant that sells delicious Korean cuisine. All sorts of seafood and pork dishes are available, so if you get hungry during your trip around the island, come and visit the restaurant. The interesting part is the dishes of this restaurant are all designed in purple.
Purple island also has a beautiful night view.
The purple lights shine brightly on the bridge, making even the sunset look purple. When you come to Korea, make sure to visit the beautiful Purple Island!

Banwoldo Island, also known as the Purple Island, is a place where slave crimes were committed by a villager. However, it was a crime that took place 20 years ago, and at that time, the islanders reported and arrested the criminal. This is where there are no problems now. The residents are also very nice people.
Please don’t go here no matter how aesthetically pleasing this island looks! Do your research it takes seconds to realize how horrible this island really is and how severely mistreated people with disabilities are being treated here. How this video is promoting the island like it’s some paradise when it is far from it is beyond me.

Knowing the history of that island, you could paint it in rainbow colours I would never want to go there. Don't want to give my money to those kind of people and I would worry for my safety.

@@elizabethbennet4791Slavery in Modern Korea. In Shinan where purple island is located is an area where slaves are exploited in the salt flats. In modern South Korea, this is illegal. What's more, these slaves are often orphans or people with low intelligence.

I’m not from Korea and I won’t pretend that I know much about the country, however I do want to respectfully ask: maybe they made the island beautiful as a sign of strength and how the people healed from that terrible history?
At least to me seems that ways, but I’m still ignorant towards the full history of it.
If someone would educate me on the matter, I would highly appreciate it!
@@angelicam.rodz.9855 They probably made it as a tourism trap tbh, search about 'sinan county sal farm slavery'. I'm not Korean too but the people who actually brought up this matter were Koreans all over yt and twitter.
The case was special because they abducted people with disabilities (mental and physical) and trapped them as slaves in the salt farms. What really made it "outstanding" was that when the Seoul police investigated it, the whole village, local government and the police were unto it. They were into the slavery together and some villagers even 'captures' slaves if they try to escape and beat them to death.
So yes, it might be pretty but for the sake of our safety, I think we should refrain from going there. :)))

What’s the difference between this story and from what early American settlers did to the Natives and slaves that virtually built America??? Let’s not forget the probable 100 or more countries that were built on slavery? If we didn’t travel or live in places that once supported slavery there probably wouldn’t be anywhere left on this Earth to go.. think about it. This whole world has a dark history. It’s sad but true.
I have to say their tourism dept sure did a good job in reinventing the island. Purple color in hopes to attract the rabidly active bts fans - check. Using a foreign model in line w that - check. Inviting a bunch of media/influencers/youth for social media presence - check. Unfortunately, one can't just erase the past esp if the people involved are the residents of the island.

@@miamartinez6873 There is slavery and human trafficking going on in that place and the entire community - including the local government and the police - are in on it. Two slaves said that they went to the police, and were ignored. The people in the community then brought them back to the slave farms. A female teacher was also gang-raped in Sinan County and everyone on the island sided with the rapists and blamed the victim for getting drunk. It is a very dangerous place since the residents are more likely to cover up anything evil that goes on in their community.

This is amazing, the view is so nice with vibrant colours. Really like the theme colour. Purple is one of my favourite colour. And the food is just looks Delish, wanna to try. All over I just love this video. 💜

im korean. never visit there seriously..99.9% korean will say same thing with me. That place is most dangerous area in south korea, seriously. Every other places are safe, but never go to shinan island if you dont go with many(more than 3) friends and korean man guide. When you get in trouble there, there is no one to help because even police are same team. Except there other places are safe to travel, but pls skip there ..:)
