this is an introvert's dream right there.. while going to the island you could listen to some music with airpods and appreciate the view.. then you can stay beside more than 100 cats while feeding them without much noise (i'm an introvert, that's why i love japan and its culture, someday i'll go to japan (:
you're incorrect. all these cats are overweight. dry food is bad for cats. just look it up edit: dry food isn't bad for cats but it can be. it increases risk of weight gain significantly
They may live well as far as food and shelter but they aren't getting nearly enough INDIVIDUAL HUMAN contact, they're almost if not feral. Look at those little faces and tell me those cats are happy... no they're not happy.
Its kind of the same as the situation with the Dodo Bird. A perfect island where there are no apex predators for cats. They probably keep the rodent population down to a minimum.
I am from Finland rural area farm. We always had cats. Not are they good as company and friendly to humans and good as pets and family members. But they take care of the homestead as well (if you are too lazy hooman). Never had any problems with rats or mice or creepy crawlies at all. Silver Fish or Mouse infestation?... They'll clean it right out. Cats takes care of the home. Dogs guard it. ;)

I've yet to see a call stray. Of course I live near mean people so that's likely why the strays I feed are slow to trust humans. Took a year of feeding 2 of the 5 for 2 to warm up to me and let me give pets and hand fed treats
yeah, my long cousin brad rodgersons used to literally catch the strays and rescues from all around the town and he would clean them all and the whole cats at a time hed cook rotisserie over a fire in the field by the woods acrosse the alley. thats how the cops caught him. nothing happened they were just freaked out. laws was different in them days. -Jed
I came to Aoshima Island about 5 years ago with my son, my son has lived in Japan for 14 years. It was a lovely experience to feed and pat the cats. I am coming to Japan next week, so I will try to come to Aoshima again. Love from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️ 🐈🐾
It would be nice to have a film or something of the island use the proceeds to get a veterinarian in there and give the cats much needed medical attention.
@@wolvar6933 these cats don't look that bad, all things considered. I feed a colony of 4-5 cats and they have more obvious problems, because they live around a lot of garbage. Ive tried to get them some veterinary care, but they are still too wary of humans and difficult to trap. It can be frustrating, but I respect their lifestyle.😺😸
Getting them fixed ( the Japanese ones) would certainly cut down the overpopulation problem. The colony I feed never have kittens, but that might be because they are all females.
Some of the cats look like they need some veterinary attention but I’m so glad that people care enough to come feed these kitties. I adore cats and this is what my heaven looks like, surrounded by cats 😊
This is a beautiful thing to have an island just for cats. While most look healthy there are some that look too skinny. I also see signs of eye infections and flea infestation in some of the cats. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to ensure that all cats are healthy and disease down to a minimum. When I am able I will donate. Many prayers of blessings and good health for the cats and those who care for them!
This is so AWESOME! What a cool place to visit. Thank you for posting this. It was beautiful, and also educational. I wish they had a place like this in every single state in the United States. An open space for visitors and tourists, but also residents that help feed and take care of them. It would be so much better than some of the shelters currently up and running. No cages. If I ever go to Japan, this place is now on my bucket list.

I constantly think about suicide and would actually do it if not for my parents. Talking to people tired me out and made me feel incredibly anxious so I prefer to be alone. I hate people like you dismissed people with mental illnesses and tell us that it was all in our mind. I actually want these thoughts to stop and to be able to live a normal life like a normal person.

There should be some rules to the tourist at the island. 1. Put the food on the plate or clean area. Don't simply put on the ground or sands area. They cannot digest the small rock. 2. There should be specific feeding area

If you put 5 hungry humans and then threw a pile of food for all of them to share, there WILL BE FIGHTING. I have fantasized about moving to Aoshima and helping the cats. I would love all the space from people, and I hate seeing so many homeless animals. Maybe open a hotel/cat adoption lol! I don't know what I'd do once all the cats got homes, but it's a nice thought in my head.
@@TaZeR- I'm sure there's certain aspects they like, but they're not protected from weather, or disease. The fighting tells me they still feel insecure about resources, and territory. Happy cats are more harmonious together. In my experience of cat rescue, cats still seek out love and affection no matter their circumstances.

I love cats, have 4 of them at home. These cats are way more fatter than mine, seeing how many food they are given by either care takers or tourists. But to be realistic, I am wondering a bit about the smell. Where to the cats "go to the bathroom" on this island?

@@hobbes4583 they are fixed look at their ears are clipped. That’s the way they mark ferals that are fixed already by clipping the ear corner off.

私は野良猫を保護して飼っています。
野良猫の平均寿命は3年近くと聞いた覚えがあります。
この島の猫たちは去勢避妊なされているのとのことで、素晴らしいことだと思います。
去勢避妊が確実でしたら今後ネコは増えることはないでしょう。
ひどいことを言うことになりますが、猫島は観光客が訪れ他の動物島の様に餌を買って食べさせる観光地になってると思うのです。
野良ネコ殺処分するならそのお金で去勢不妊して次世代の猫島のアイドルにしてあげられないかな…

I have fantasized about moving to Aoshima and helping the cats. I would love all the space from people, and I hate seeing so many homeless animals. Maybe open a hotel/cat adoption lol! I don't know what I'd do once all the cats got homes, but it's a nice thought in my head.

@@TaZeR- I'm sure there's certain aspects they like, but they're not protected from weather, or disease. The fighting tells me they still feel insecure about resources, and territory. Happy cats are more harmonious together. In my experience of cat rescue, cats still seek out love and affection no matter their circumstances.

だから金に困ってないなら猫カフェの清潔な猫を触ってたほうがいいよ

I love cats, have 4 of them at home. These cats are way more fatter than mine, seeing how many food they are given by either care takers or tourists. But to be realistic, I am wondering a bit about the smell. Where to the cats "go to the bathroom" on this island?
