Just to explain that this is about: the guitarist wrote a song about science and he said it was full of bad science word play: "everything is irrelative" "man the manipulator". Separately, a man told Su he was a janitor and she heard "genitals" and put it together as a chorus. Guitarist liked the janitor line a lot because it broke up his weak world play with something much more.
I was 16 and going to a Christian high school when this came out. Girls at our school dressed this way, and we guys actually liked it. The 1980s were honestly very conservative in some ways. But then you read the lyrics and you go "What in the world...?"
The B-52's were certainly influenced by Yoko. Even John Lennon noticed the similarities. Proving once again that John & Yoko were ahead of their times.
Su Tissue suffered from extreme anxiety/stage fright back then. It might have had an influence on her performance. I believe it's one of the reasons they didn't stay together for long. Last I heard she is a lawyer somewhere now!
