    Awesome video Musa! It's a good thing to mention that the gen 1 B46/B48 engine eseentially have the same TD04 turbo as the N20 which features a .41 exhuast housing that REALLY restricts exhaust flow for over 350whp even for a 2.0! Thats makes the IM450 a huge upgrade over the gen 1 turbos. Loved your explanation on the dual-ceramic ball bearing, its the biggest reason why we can keep the stock-like spool with a much stronger top end 💪. Super excited about your build.

      Thank you! Very interesting, I wasn't aware that the gen 1 didn't utilize a Honeywell turbo as well. I'm sure a lot of F3X drivers will be stoked to know the IM450 isn't reserved for the G2X platform and technically could be even more transformative for their cars. I'll be sure to mention this in the install video. Thanks, going BB was definitely the move for our cars, excellent design decision.

      How much of an upgrade are they compared to a b46tu gen 2 turbo?

    • @IPOSMotorsport
      @IPOSMotorsport Год назад +3

      @@Starscream8896 Still a very considerable amount. The B46TU turbo comes with a relatively small compressor wheel. Stock turbo 91 you can expect 290whp whereas with an IM450 you can expect 360-380whp like Musa mentioned in the video. Where this turbo really shines is with ethanol mixes or even meth injection especially in places with subpar gasoline like California. You can easily break the 400whp mark without sacrificing spool.

      @@Starscream8896 California? Nope not yet, but we do have a comparable fuel in italy that did dyno 380whp. If you're in california we really reccomend just running ethanol mixes and even better port injection full e85 to not bother with mixes and be full power the safest way possible. Ethanol has very big cooling benefits and compared to the abysmal qualify of california gas its a no brainer.

Would just need to look into the specs of that turbo on the B48B20B to say definitely as from what I could tell the B48B20A uses the same turbo as the 330i. Okay I did a little research. If you're going with a G20 330E you're going to want to make sure it has the B48B20B engine as it has more potential with tuning. Mostly due to the internals of the engine being more like the B46D from what I have read. The electric motor provides over 100HP right from a stop and it seems as though from a cost standpoint there was no need to run a different turbo on the 330E vs the 330i. As time progresses and the hybrid models become more prevalent I expect to see them pushing the turbocharger sizing and shooting for more HP and supplementing the lack of spool with electric power.

So he still has the low-end torque and relatively no lag, and yet still gets tons of power on the high-end. His car is really fast, and I was thinking about doing the same thing. Hey, so I have an N20, yet it keeps having a hard lurch when accelerating hard going from first to second gear. It is almost non-existent when the car is cold, but gets worse after warming up/driving. I have already changed the driveshaft, auto transmission (ZF), CV axles, and still have not fixed this problem. Any ideas? I really want to keep this BMW because it is so smooth on the highways. It is an F10. Thanks. I just cannot figure out what could be wrong with it. No engine codes come up. It also hesitates when going uphill and has a transient "drivetrain malfunction" that pops up but goes away when then going back to driving on flat road. Already checked the spark plugs and ignition coils and no difference unfortunately.

    That is why I love my K20C with the factory turbo. Sure, there are bigger turbo's, but with a custom tune, pushing 370lbft of torque at 2k RPM and 290-300lbft at 1500RPM is insane and feels way stronger than any NA 6 cylinder ever could. On pump gas. But, the downside of this turbo (the MHI TD03) is that it is single scroll, and once reach your peak you fall off rapidly past 4800-5000 RPM. Sure, with better tuning we got a better top end, but that is with 6 PSI of boost more than factory and lots of custom tuning and boost by gear, etc.
    There really isn't a good turbo replacement for the k20 that will be a drop in replacement that can maintain both low end an top end torque. As far as I know, neither PRL nor 27won offer a twin scroll turbo. Which sucks.

    Regarding the B48's, would you consider the 320i 184hp version to be reliable to tune with a stage 1 mod or will it be risky since these have the higher compression pistons compared to the ones found in the 330i ? Would be really nice to see a video regarding the different B48 versions.
    I only found other engines on the MHD site, any idea if they plan to develop a B48 tune too ?

      Given the electric motor can provide over 100 hp instantly off the line it sounds like it could open up possibilities just not sure how tricky that would end up being to tune and mesh together. The combination would net some crazy HP and make for a very fast car.

    750,000 miles behind N52 motors, we just bought an X3 MSport w/ the N20. Around town, the torque does motivate this chassis. However, the sound and vibration... Sorry BMW, BIG mistake.
    PS... we got better fuel efficiency in the N52 X3 than this N20!? At 190,000 miles, the N54 was averaging 23.5mpg. The N20 w/ 70,000 miles is getting 21mpg.

    I have a few questions. I have a 2018 330ix completely stock.
    1) with a DownPipe that dize and no aftermarket exhaust, will it cause droning?
    2) Will a charge pipe upgrade be needed along with this?
    3) and lastly, we’re talking 400 crank hp SAFELY on stock internals? So we’re just doing im450, DownPipe and tune. That’s it? - thanks I’m interested

    • @VehicularDIY
      @VehicularDIY  11 месяцев назад +2

      No in comfort mode you would be hard pressed to tell it isn't stock. This assumes under 20% throttle in normal driving. It can get loud in sport plus and higher rpms but it's not super loud.
      Not required, I'm keeping mine for a stock look. If I wasn't concerned about that I would have upgraded it. They can hold the boost though from what I've seen, not like on the older cars with the clip on style at the throttle body. This has a flange and bolts down so it can handle more even though it's plastic.
      In your case because you have an F30 you would need to upgrade the HPFP as well to a Gen 2 like what comes stock on my car. So turbo, downpipe, gen 2 fuel pump and tune and easy 400 crank hp safe on stock internals. IPOS which I linked below sells the HPFP upgrade also. I say safe in terms of power as you could aim for deep into the 500 crank hp range and still have it last. For comparison if you had a 2015 328i you'd be at the limit at 350 crank for a number of reasons.

    • @VehicularDIY

      Yeah E50 is an easy 400 WHP which is plenty for me. I measure the speed of a car in terms of what type of trap speed the car could achieve in the 1/4 mile. 115 MPH is very fast and once you exceed 120MPH it starts to get pretty wild. I think we can get close to 120 MPH traps speed on E50 as the transmission is so good, I'd venture to say almost legendary in this car. It just needs some serious torque going through it to really come to life.

    • @VehicularDIY

      From what I’ve seen you’d be guaranteed to have 380 horsepower at the wheels on 93 octane maybe more with only the im450 turbo and a downpipe. No other mods required as the stock fueling system is robust. So close to 450 hp at the crank
