Don’t allow yourself to minimize how important it is to show up. Some moments, like the death or funeral of a friend’s parent, where the struggle is to know what to do or say, showing up is everything to those who mourn.
Yes. Nobody enjoys going to a wake but your going and presence lessens the burden of grief on the family. Of course theres something you’d rather be doing but just go, and pay respects
It seems that a lot of the “rules” of being a gentleman are simply ways of being respectful. Thinking back to some of the other videos - Things like being punctual, being reliable, keeping your phone in your pocket, displaying manners at the dinner table, cleaning up after yourself, remaining calm under pressure (instead of yelling at people), being helpful etc, etc, are all different ways of being respectful toward others.
Great video James! James Stewart trained my Grandfather during WWII flying B17s. Grandpa always told me in real life he was one of the finest men he ever knew as well!!
I’m 56 and would say I gave many of the traits you discuss, but these are great reminders and level sets for any man of any age - keep up the great work
Hi James, please make a video on whether it is ok or even necessary to lie sometimes despite being honest and transparent in general, and if so, in which situations.
@@EcstaticTemporality According to Kant, one should still tell the truth, even if it might endanger others, because the moral duty to truthfulness takes precedence over potential consequences. However, many find this position difficult to apply in real life and argue for more flexible approaches that consider the context. Critics argue that Kant's strict approach is impractical and inhumane, as it does not take circumstances or consequences into account. They contend that blindly adhering to the duty of truthfulness can lead to harmful outcomes, such as endangering innocent lives. A utilitarian perspective, for instance, would favor lying in such cases to protect lives, as it prioritizes the consequences of actions over rigid principles. Under certain circumstances you would be forced to lie because not replying would reveal the truth.
Gent z your videos are incredibly insightful into improving one's character in a framework. Jarvis Johnson made a video on you and I really would like you to respond or clear up misconceptions. Alternatively having a formal conversation with him online could be great. Love your channel
@Gent.Z Hey men i agree with 5/6 points but the last one a man/gentlemen has to prioritize himself first, because nobody knows what he goes through. It's better then actually tell anybody bacause as a men nobody carres if you have problems or not, i do agree that some time it's good to help others, but other people needs never need to come over your own otherwise people will treat you like a dormatt, because human nature is selfish that is why it's called human ego listen to an older man. And keep the good work i like your videos

Thank you for being a role model for kids and younger lads who might not find this advice at home. True public service.

In my little world it's all about integrity. My word is Sacred and those who have known me attest to it.
Reliability is a paramount measure of a man. It is better to under promise and over deliver.
Imagine! A world of gentlemen.

These are his best type of video's, together with style advice

I would count accountability as part of the honesty and transparency category of traits.
Sir James, I watched a couple o your videos and I just became addicted, this channel is too good. Greeting from Ukraine.
Reliability is a trade that's not immediately noticed till given the circumstance, then it becomes in fact invaluable.

Immanual Kant said it is never okay to lie under any circumstance. You can always choose not to reply or withhold the truth, but to lie is wrong.

IF A MAN LOSES HIS MONEY HE'S LOST NOTHING...IF HE LOSES
HIS REPUTATION HE'S
LOST EVERYTHING...
money is a concept it cant make you anything you already arent, losing yourself you can name it as reputation, is what matters that true
Could you make a video on proper movie theater etiquette?

Great content! Timestamps: missing tip 5 or 6... ;-) (a typo, I guess)
I also think of John Adams who represented the soldiers in the Boston Massacre because he believed in the right of representation.
