ima be honest with you, i do know of a game who's older versions where actually just better, and that game is: POLYBATTLE some context behind the sad, miserable husk of a once actually popular and liked shooter: so basically, polybattle was a small indie project, one riddled with bugs, spaghetti code and a lack of content, however, one day a certain "company", infamous for buying games and turning them into shitty p2w's bought the game off its original owner, actually improving the game for a time it was complete smooth sailing for a long while, untill the dawn of a new era . . . . . . . . . now, we all know gamefam and how they treat their employees, so its no suprise that the overworked staff starting getting more stuffed piled on them as the game got more popular (at one point, it had a peak of around 5k active players), and as the fatigue started to weight them down, the dev team started to crumble underneath the pressure. soon, the devs where just adding more and more gamebreaking bugs with each feature, weekly updates with new guns often unbalanced and unpolished, all around, this starting to go downhill. obviously, the playerbase was unhappy, the playercount slowly dwindled in size, gamefam, seeing that one of their flagship games started to topple underneath the weight of their greed, decided to milk the game as much as possible, which made the payers even unhappier untill the last developer of the game just couldn't take it and left the project and most likely gamefam entirely for me personally, this was a rather sad thing to see as despite the fact that i was rather new to the game, i still made memories playing it, it was one of the games that i played regularly and it honestly makes me really sad every time i revisit the game, its so nostalgic to me and its still somehow "alive" and kicking despite it being driven into the ground and no longer receiving updates (it has about 300 concurrent players minimum) worst part is, gamefam is just keeping the game on life support they didn't even bother to give the game a funeral, nonetheless bury it like seriously nobody ever announced that the game was no longer receiving updates, its still there and just as shitty as ever with no sign that it's been abandoned.
OH MY RETROS! I genuinely do dislike people who joined in 2020 - 2023 who say that Old Roblox is better. The 2005 - 2009 Era is way too overhyped when the 2010/2011 - 2018 Era was pretty much the peak of Roblox. I say this because there was still some fun to be had with the platform and the games did feel like they had something going for it. (Egg Hunt 2018 is peak fiction.)

Just something to give the illusion of a personality rather than the indifferent machine seen after Roblox went public. As for the community... no. It was just that most of the toxicity was largely contained to the Roblox forums (an entire rabbit hole in of themselves), and with less overall users you just didn't see as much of it.

I joined in 2021 so I can't call myself one of the "ogs", but the only thing I like about old Roblox is the aesthetic overall. Mainly the logo, the lego-like look for the games and the way the old waves of accessories look, they have a charm to them imo. That's about it, current Roblox is objectively superior in many ways

Old roblox and new roblox had its fair share of positives and negatives. New roblox forces the new 3d faces and realistic models on us (which looks ugly af) which is negative. And old roblox had no anti-cheat which is also negative. New roblox had a new emote feature which was positive. And old roblox had only the lego brick feel which was also positive.

Old Roblox was not better, it was enjoyable per se. Sounds like the issues you described in the video in terms of racism, predatory, ODers are and have always been on Roblox. I’ve always enjoyed Roblox, objectively older Roblox WAS NOT better, that’s a no brainer. I missed when Roblox player and Roblox studio crashed while I was staying up for hours either playing games on Roblox or while I was trying to build something in Roblox studio. It was different times, I would like to think since older Roblox was trash and wasn’t as good as it is now, it was “difficult” times. “Difficult” times as in Roblox would run like shit, avatar items didn’t really exist until the mid 2010s, people abused the tickets system, the Roblox client would crash from time to time, and it was more unfiltered. I remember seeing those Roblox “gross” games as a kid, and I would laugh and be weirded out by it. Easier times aren’t always better, it just allows you to become lazier and comfortable. That’s usually the direction most video games are going towards, in order to be “unique” and “fun,” the game has to be SUPER easy, which defeats the point of a game since games have to come with challenges and be difficult. Not just with Roblox, I love older games in general. New Roblox and new games are just repetitive and oversaturated, older games were better because they were shit, in the right time, in the right environment, and with the right people.

I'm a late 2013 - early 2014 player, sometimes referred as the last "gold age" of Roblox, and let me tell you, most people don't know what they're talking about. Aside from the fact we still had events sometimes, and the page did seem a bit for colorful instead of corporate, there really weren't that many pros to it. Moderation was awful, dare I say worse than what we got now, to the point some people actually reported getting banned for saying "hi", exploiters were much more annoying as well, some even using straight up NSFW scripts as if that wasn't enough, and I saw plenty of chat bypasses as well. Plus, as a Roblox Studio enjoyer, I can assure you the new versions are way better. I wouldn't change my 2024 Roblox Studio for the 2013 - 2014 one, nor the one used in 2009 or 2006, which I actually saw a video on and damn, even Minecraft could have been a better tool to make a game... As you said here, most people saying "Old Roblox is better" doesn't really know what they're talking about, they just heard it from a random influencer who probably did not even play the game version they praise

EDIT: This will come off as elitist, but I feel deeply *enjoying* something requires understanding its imperfections. Furthermore, a lot of "old Roblox was better" types usually don't ever want to entertain good faith takes asserting otherwise (and if they do I see it usually just as some strawman only a few steps removed from "i made you the soyjak and me the chad").

@@XandaManda Y'know, the increased involvement with rhe community is actually something I miss, really. Just something to give the illusion of a personality rather than the indifferent machine seen after Roblox went public.
As for the community... no. It was just that most of the toxicity was largely contained to the Roblox forums (an entire rabbit hole in of themselves), and with less overall users you just didn't see as much of it.

something important for anyone who wants 06-07 roblox back: the client didn’t even support multiplayer beyond crossroads until late 2007 and during that time the client was INCREDIBLY vulnerable to viruses being injected into it which is why you never see 2007 roblox revivals.

I joined in 2021 so I can't call myself one of the "ogs", but the only thing I like about old Roblox is the aesthetic overall. Mainly the logo, the lego-like look for the games and the way the old waves of accessories look, they have a charm to them imo. That's about it, current Roblox is objectively superior in many ways

I miss old roblox because I was free from the knowledge of how complex the world actually was and I never really knew about the bad stuff that went on in roblox, I only saw the good side of people while playing. It was a great time of my life and I will always miss it.

Old roblox and new roblox had its fair share of positives and negatives. New roblox forces the new 3d faces and realistic models on us (which looks ugly af) which is negative. And old roblox had no anti-cheat which is also negative. New roblox had a new emote feature which was positive. And old roblox had only the lego brick feel which was also positive.

Old Roblox was not better, it was enjoyable per se. Sounds like the issues you described in the video in terms of racism, predatory, ODers are and have always been on Roblox. I’ve always enjoyed Roblox, objectively older Roblox WAS NOT better, that’s a no brainer. I missed when Roblox player and Roblox studio crashed while I was staying up for hours either playing games on Roblox or while I was trying to build something in Roblox studio. It was different times, I would like to think since older Roblox was trash and wasn’t as good as it is now, it was “difficult” times. “Difficult” times as in Roblox would run like shit, avatar items didn’t really exist until the mid 2010s, people abused the tickets system, the Roblox client would crash from time to time, and it was more unfiltered. I remember seeing those Roblox “gross” games as a kid, and I would laugh and be weirded out by it. Easier times aren’t always better, it just allows you to become lazier and comfortable. That’s usually the direction most video games are going towards, in order to be “unique” and “fun,” the game has to be SUPER easy, which defeats the point of a game since games have to come with challenges and be difficult. Not just with Roblox, I love older games in general. New Roblox and new games are just repetitive and oversaturated, older games were better because they were shit, in the right time, in the right environment, and with the right people.

I'm a late 2013 - early 2014 player, sometimes referred as the last "gold age" of Roblox, and let me tell you, most people don't know what they're talking about. Aside from the fact we still had events sometimes, and the page did seem a bit for colorful instead of corporate, there really weren't that many pros to it. Moderation was awful, dare I say worse than what we got now, to the point some people actually reported getting banned for saying "hi", exploiters were much more annoying as well, some even using straight up NSFW scripts as if that wasn't enough, and I saw plenty of chat bypasses as well. Plus, as a Roblox Studio enjoyer, I can assure you the new versions are way better. I wouldn't change my 2024 Roblox Studio for the 2013 - 2014 one, nor the one used in 2009 or 2006, which I actually saw a video on and damn, even Minecraft could have been a better tool to make a game... As you said here, most people saying "Old Roblox is better" doesn't really know what they're talking about, they just heard it from a random influencer who probably did not even play the game version they praise
