Bravo, Andy, nice performance. And a heartfelt Happy Birthday to JMcL, one of my favorite human beings, and certainly one of the greatest musicians of our era.
When listening to John McLaughlin play guitar, one experiences the sound of true genius, perhaps even peerless amongst all the other great guitarists of the last 60 years, A very 🎂'Happy Birthday'🎂to John, and kudos to Andy for the classy tribute!👍
John Mclaughlin blew my mind when I first heard him on the Mahavishnu Orchestra'. I'd never heard anyone like him. It was just another level of playing. Glad to know he's still out there at 83. Happy birthday, John.
Happy birthday! The first Mahavishnu Orchestra album I bought was "Birds of Fire" in 1973. Time flies but it sounds just as fresh now, and today is a good time to play it again.
After silence, that which comes closest to expressing the inexpressible is music...Sri Chinmoy. "You do it John McLaughlin" Happy Bday, thank you for being you!
Listen to his guitar solo on "What I say" from "Live Evil" with Miles Davis! It's one of the best ever! Recorded at the Cellar Door in D.C. I think in '69 or '70. His strings sound extra loose it's unique. almost sounds like a violin at times. A must listen!
Andy, watching you trying to recreate the "Birds of Fire" album single handedly, reminds me that you still haven't offered up your opinion of who the top 10 greatest multi instrumentalists of all time were. To tell you the truth, I even subscribed to your channel, in the hope that you would be able to provide an answer to this question. It seems to me that as a multi instrumentalist yourself, you are both well qualified, and knowledgeable enough to give a well informed answer to this question. And by the way, I agree with your opinion about who the greatest guitarist was... and while John McLaughlin comes close... it can only be Allan Holdsworth!. To hear of Allan's passing, must have been like a JFK moment for you... I wonder if you could share your thoughts of that day in a video (but I would understand if you think it's too morbid!). Happy Birthday to John McLaughlin too... and with video's like this, might we see John on the channel soon as well? (I think that's Andy's plan... isn't it?).
Happy birthday ... Mahavishnu bar John? (And I thought that was a fantastic tribute Andy. IMHO, you're one of the sky-apples that fell not too far from this tree. And that's not just because your diligent effort and then surrender to the stream you're flowing in produced sound that resonates in us floating leaves out here, but also in the fact that you've chosen to be one of those who put the important things first.)
Oh man great to see Ray Gomez, as well as an old friend Marco Anderson who is a real JM expert and led a great Lifetime inspired trio back in the day🤘🏻
nice,i suggest utilizing the pitch bend wheel with left hand when playing solos on keys with right hand.last note allways sounds nice with a bend, jan hammer style
My fifth favorite guitarist. He was born on the same day and year as my late father-in-law. I share a birthday with Trevor Rabin, who I feel is a bit underappreciated as a guitarist.
Happy Birthday, John. Andy -- Wonderful guitar playing. Wish everyone a wonderful new year. I have a track on my Chanel, called "On Red Gardenien Street". Many have told me it is McLaughlin-- ish. I'd love to know if anyone could tell me if my tune rips from a john McLaughlin tune. Love John, also thinking of making my song longer. Love to hear your ideas.
I am not a religious person; I have no belief in an afterlife. But if there is a hell, then I’m sure the Mahavishnu Orchestra will be the house-band. I find it difficult to express in words how much I absolutely loathe and detest this horrible, horrible noise; it is the very worst music ever contrived by human beings. But happy birthday anyway I guess…
I agree, 10 seconds in and I am pulling my hair out.....I haven't even got any hair..... This type of music sets my teeth on edge. no real melody just crazy all over the place playing for the sake of playing. But as you say Happy Birthday anyway 🙂
Awesome Tribute to Master McLaughlin, very heartfelt

What's with the excellent production quality? It's just confusing.
It's the year 2025 now.
He's quite good, isn't he.

Happy birthday John McLaughlin. I can't get into the MO though. God knows I've tried but I can't stand it.They're nearly as awful as weather report.
mahavishnu was the only fusion band that mattered to me … saw them a number of times … always beyond expectations
