- Join us in playing a game of NAPOLEON! Can you win the 1815 Waterloo campaign as Napoleon? Ben and Austin will be playing Blucher and Wellington with Matt carrying out your orders for the French. When forces clash on the boardgame we will resolve them in a miniature Napolenic game....its the best of both worlds!
You can vote for how Napoleon should start the offensive in the COMMUNITY TAB. Also - feel free to write out your thoughts for Matt in the comments. He (as Marshal Ney) will do his best to translate them into moves on the game board.
This campaign will continue through Christmas.
You can download the rules to Napoleon here:

Let's just keep Grouchy on a leash!
Beat me to it.
A SHORT leash
He did as his orders required - blame lies elsewhere.
Use some imaginative tactics and bring Davout and Murat on the battlefield.
Exactly! Why did Napoleon ever left Davout in Paris is still a staffing decision mystery to me.
We want Davout from Paris. Ney's a bum.
Davout over Grouchy, the Prussians never would have made Waterloo. What people often overlook is not having Berthier. He could translate Napoleons rapid orders clearly etc Soult not so much
So what happens if Nappy wins? Do you then get to fight the 225,000 Austrians and 250,000 Russians headed your way? 😂
Napoleon just decided to give a chance to other nations he lost on purpose, trust me I'm a historian (not)
I watch NFL every weekend (Chiefs) and every 1st down they throw a runner into the mass-line and rarely gain much - this looks like pushing forward to Liege into the PUSSIAN mass and I vote AGAINST doing that (GO LEFT YOUNG MAN - GO LEFT against the Allies army) !!
I just found a used copy of this game in a Thrift store for $8 and will use it to follow the campaign here ! I believe "in game terms" it would be BEST given the deployments to drive around the left to force battle with the Allied Army first !! Mainly because they are the WEAKER army AND the roads to the left (Ghent) have been left open ( force-marching down that flank MAY cause a battle)? OR at the very least a MAJOR BATTLE can be delayed until the RED force has been weakened (in a turn of battle the RED may rupture and disappear) ? While I'd like to follow the battle of "central position" tactics , this game-board does not give you enough SPACE (movement positions/towns) to actual follow realistic tactics ! A movement to a center position will only allow BOTH OPPOSING ARMYS (with ALL their strength blocks) to concentrate against you (the French) and they already out-number you - BETTER to string them out moving across the board chasing you while you look for a way to pounce on their PARTS !!!
YEARS AGO SPI did this same sort of thing Redmond Simonson playing against 8,000 subscribers using the SPI Battle of Waterloo game/rules/system and the readers responces got melted down because of the numbers playing ? That is the side with your 2-guys can make absolute moves and decisions versus the watered down results of ALL of us ?? Earlier (a couple years ago ) they did Gettysburg with a bunch of watchers making a lot of POOR DECISIONS by just a few percentage points ! The South should have GONE TO THE RIGHT as you guys played out a month or so back ! I'll be watching the results too like everybody else. L-)
Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Great idea.
Looking forward to the series. At Mark's Game Room, it's fun to march to the lunch table - and the sound of the gums! ;^)
In college I took a 3-hour credit "History" elective course using "The Campaigns of Napoleon" book by Chandler (2,400pages) and Napoleon's tactic in this situation would be to gain the "central position" between the two armies then concentrate most of his army against one army and hold off the other army with a smaller force (corp-size) or use a cavalry-screen to slow down the other army from combining !!
Exactly what he did. Also lost him the campaign, so they would need to better at it then he was.
Read that 40 years ago for fun :)
@@MichaelCorryFilms Exactly, perhaps Napoleon would have been better served after gaining the central position to concentrate on the Prussians as Wellington may have been reluctant to leave his defensive position too come to the Prussians aid.
Good point !@@BrixtonTone
For me too it was 40 years ago - I'm very OLD !@@karlheinzvonkroemann2217
Take Hannut after lingey and quatra bras
Great idea for a campaign
Excellent idea!
This reminds me a lot of Tannemburg 1914 (WW1) where the Germans concentrated against just one Russian army and screened off the other Russian army with cavalry units till they could switch back to deal with the 2nd Russian army - AS IS there will be a hard time getting the Prussians to engage in a Major Battle and TIME is short in number of turns allowed !! :-(
I lvoe this idea
I found the crown of France in the gutter! And I picked it up with my SWORD!!
Thanks!
Napoleon what? Never hear of it. Sounds like a Mongolian desert. :)
Not if I watch Ridley Scotts version... 🤣🤣🤣
The Columbia game is so fun. I bought 2 copies and played it using the blind rules so neither player knew where they other was . . . it was so great. Wonderful to see this game being used for the campaign!
Interesting - if you are going to play out the battles on tabletop, what rules will you use?
Wouldn't it be cool if a game like this was on steam?
Man, Napoleon's defeat is just so sad isn't it 😔
Looking forward to this 🙂
where did you get the minatures from?
Great episode !
Thanks Mark a great idea, what rules are using when you transfer to miniatures for battles?
We are just going to use the NAPOLEON rules...but use minis instead of blocks. As this is our first filmed campaign I figured we would start easy. We are planning on a Saratoga and Wars of the Roses campaign next year. Those will be more ambitious.
Great idea
I wonder what would have happened if Napoleon had Grouchy act more as a right flank screening force instead of a pursuit force. Looking at the map, if Grouchy is half the distance away that he was, he could block the Prussians or catch them on the march. He might even be in position to offer up forces to support a reserve action. It would free up the troops Napoleon had to shift to his right to form a blocking force against the Prussians.
