The building maybe a little older style but generally the inside of the apartment are in good conditions. When I stayed in cotui I didn't have hot water. Not bad during the day but showering at night was chilly!!
I don't think I ever took a hot shower in the Dominican? Maybe at the resort.

My brother in law pays like $150 a month for a 1 bedroom appartment in villa Carmen (santo domingo Este). I do not really like the area but the appartment is very clean.

Love it. Looking to spend the winter (January-March) in DR. Just Looking for a place near tennis courts and a beach if possible.
I'm sure you can find this you would just have to do some research.
All suggestions are very much welcome. My only goal is to escape the East Coast American Winter, hopefully not get hit by some major storm in the DR and play tennis. One of the side benefits is I get to practice my Espanol roto.

Norbert’s, I think it’s important to discuss the water pressure, particularly since it’s an older style apartment and it’s on the 2nd floor.
Water pressure varies from place doesn't matter if it an older style apartment or what floor it's on. This particular apartment the water pressure was fine. Its someone is concerned about the water pressure of an apartment they should inquire about before renting it.

Most of my videos are here in Santo Domingo because I stay here but if I visit a different town I Usually try it to make a video. But I don't travel to make videos on properties for rent.

There are different areas in Santo Domingo that you can find something under $500, Check around Santo Domingo Este, Santo Domingo Norte and Oeste in the Distrito Nacional you won't have that much luck but again you can may find something there depending on what neighborhood too. Check websites like corotos.com, mercadolibre.com.do, encuentra24.com point2home.com.

The neighborhood is a typical Dominican neighborhood. It's safe and quiet.
good video....this is a typical style (dominican) apartment in santo domingo ....$300 for a 3 bedroom, in the city center.....not bad, a one or two bedroom would be about $200/$250....of course she did say it belongs to her cousin, who is dominican (am guessing)....so prices might change if a tourist is trying to lease this using google translate ...
Yes it is a good price, I agree and understand that depending on areas prices might change because of a tourist but not all places here are like that specially in typical Dominicans neighborhood prices do not change based on who is renting.

Looks like Santo Domingo have nice apartments
they do. I've stayed in Piantini, Zona Colonial and all the way to San Isidro. Very nice in some areas. luxury living on a budget

Hi. Wonderful views. Let me ask is the neighborhood safe for foreigners? What about overall noise in Dominican Republic. Esp at night say after 11pm to 7am? I ask because i've lived in Ghana, Columbia, Thailand etc and some cultures are louder than others. In Ghana for instance you might here loud noise from bars and or chruch's till 5am at times.
I wouldn't recommend this particular neighborhood to a foreigner not that it's bad. The noise depends on the area you live in.
If you live in a good area, you won’t have noise problems. I never had any noise around while growing up in the DR for the 30 years I lived there. I lived in Santiago. Same for safety; depends on the area and what precautions you take.

But I've been here coming up on two months this trip and I"ve been lucky or just picked the right places. I've been moving around and have gotten areas where noise is not a problem. Distance wise it's not far about 10 to 12 minutes. However this is without traffic. On a normal day during rush hour it could take 45 mins to get there by Uber. If you take public transportation it could take longer depending on the route.

It is usually 2 months rent + 1 month especially in areas that are not touristic. You can usually find them online.

Ok, how about $150 US per month for an apartment for months on end?
Amenities included required:
WiFi access (if high speed unlimited data isn't included), washer, dryer (if no clothes lines), kitchen (or at least shared), closet (or place to hang clothes), dresser, student table/desk, furniture (even if used), a full regular sized fridge with normal sized freezer on top, high speed fans (if no AC), all utilities included in price (like hot water and electricity), stovetop (or at least propane top), at least basic security.
This is for a 1 bedroom.
*I prefer to only spend $80 US per month tho, so that's probably more likely to be a room rental and sharing the common areas with another.*

Maybe in a barrio or campo. You'll spend $80 at la sirena just on a minimal grocery trip. Good luck with that budget. DR ain't that cheap anymore, especially with Airbnb becoming popular. My experience is only in Santiago though.

Sorry for confusion, barrio is a word for gettho in Hispanic countries and camo is a village (middle of nowhere). La sirena is a local store chain..i was giving u an example that u will spend 80$ just by doing a basic grocery trip. I think 80$ a month is going to very very hard to find a place to live.

I would take the estimate I provide in the video and start there. There was no alcohol cost in that monthly estimate. And eating out can vary depending on the types restaurant.
