    This was so enjoyable...but I feel as though I've cooked Thanksgiving with you! Always interesting to see what others do on preparation for a holiday. I have started cooking potatoes in chicken broth for added flavor. Over the years I've tweeked the menu a bit for changing of ages of people eating, and also, moving from north to south and adding regional items as the family has been joined by those with different tastes. A certain amount of familiarity is appreciated by all.

    I’m going to make my Mac and cheese like you did. Mine always comes out too dry. Now I see I don’t put enough liquid. And I might try the dressing too. I’m just baking turkey wings with carrots, celery, onions and green apples with sage, rosemary, and thyme. It’s just me and my daughter so I don’t need a lot of food. Maybe I’ll make some green beans too.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  Год назад +1

      Rosalind, that sounds like plenty. Make enough for Thanksgiving and a little extra for leftovers so you can have one day free of cooking. Put on your apron and do whatever you do and send me a picture. I’d love to see.

    Generally you are right. But if you do add to much salt to something with broth peel a whole potato and dunk it in. It will soak up a lot of the salt as it cooks. If you want tomatoes also work but would be harder to remove than a whole potato.

    I made a turkey breast...and did not have enough drippings for flavoring the stuffing and to make a gravy. So I put it all on the stuffing and only had a little bit of turkey. I did get a box of bone broth, chicken it is blackgarlic and mushroom flavored. The only problem...almost out of stuffing...

    Denise do you have any tips for keeping bread rolls hot on the table? Hot, butter-melting rolls are my favorite part of any meal but they get cold so fast. I tried the microwaved dried beans hack. That really worked but only for 20 minutes and it smelled like scorched beans.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this video, but have a suggestion. To ensure the uninitiated understand, I suggest you clarify that you mean smoked turkey drumstick and smoked turkey tails for seasoning! You don't want a first-timer to try to season with "fresh" unsmoked turkey parts. I'm 72 and raised in the south, but I just learned a couple of years ago about smoked turkey parts as a substitute for ham hocks! I loved your recipes though. Thanks so much for posting this.

    I've never seen carrots put in dressing. So, basically you replaced the bell peppers with carrots? I may have to try that; although, I like bell peppers. The honey on the turkey is also interesting.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  9 месяцев назад

      Yes. I like the sweetness of carrots more so than peppers in dressing. But please note they are finely chopped so almost imperceptible. Also, since I don’t sauté them they must be finely chopped to be tender.
