That is one of the best explanations I've ever heard for the reasons behind using different agar recipes. I am gonna try leaving the yeast out next time. Thank you.
The water agar is a good idea. Btw, if you have an Asian market near you, agar is pretty cheap. You can also get packets for single use... if you're doing a good amount of agar work lol. They're like 25g or so
Great channel. Thank you. I just started in this hobby. I'll be using a bunsen burner, borosilicate plates and your recipes as soon as the rest gets delivered. Take care.
I've been growing mushrooms and doing plate work for the last three years. I make up my agar for plates in cold water with a good swirl and then straight into the pressure cooker. Everything dissolves fine by the time it comes out. (I had to close my eyes when you poured the boiling water into the mason jars. If there is any flaw in the glass jar, it can shatter from the thermal shock.) Good video, looking forward to the next one. Keep them coming.
Nice demonstration, thanks. Looking to forward to trying the "potato water" on my next spore run. Also another plus to pouring your own plates is that it's fun (at least to a noob).
Your skepticism of potatoes aggravated me throughout your video. This has been the gold standard for mycology since it's inception. Anyone that thinks this is weird has never read a book about it.

HAHA, thanks man. you know as well as I do how badly people overcomplicate things.

That's a great point. I do check my jars, I had one burst in my autoclave once lol
I'll have to try it cold sometime.....never even gave that a shot tbh
