    As an ex police officer I can put some light on what you are saying.Pre 1990 the waiting list to get into the Met was sometimes up to 2 years.There was a written test (if you didn’t have O levels in English and Maths) a three day selection process which included a strict physical test,swimming test and interview with three senior officers.After that six months intensive training at Hendon followed by two years probation and street duty courses.For all this you got a relatively well paid job with lots of overtime.Subsidised rent allowance that went towards a mortgage if you so wanted or Police accommodation at low rent. Access to many free sports facilities and gyms.Free public transport including the Tube and free entry to cinemas and some west end theatres.Promotion prospects were good but the sergeants and inspectors exams were very tough.After 1990 most if not all the above was removed and the standard of recruits required were not coming forward to join especially after Tony Blair halved the budget and his side kick David Blunket introduced PCSO’s because they scrapped the community police officers to save money. The only thing you can do to attract police officers under these circumstances is drop the standards and come up with a graduate entry scheme with accelerated promotion to fill the senior officer shortage.

    • @dr_dr
      @dr_dr Год назад +8

      This is certainly part of the problem; however, there were still plenty of corrupt and inept coppers around before the cuts and lowering of standards though. Lack of proper accountability to the public is the real problem - When coppers know that most of the people they abuse their powers against don't have the means or trust in the system to complain, complaints are not taken seriously or the process is designed to frustrate and even if a complaint gets through all that, the sanction against that Constable is minimal and doesn't affect their life, career or finances i.e. No consequence.

    • @sssssssssggggggg
      @sssssssssggggggg Год назад +9

      Bang on @flyerh. I too went through the process in the mid 70's. (although it was oop north) It was very strict. I was 6ft tall (still am of course) but the height measuring thing said I was 5' 10" The copper said I had just scraped through lol. The final interview with the 3 bigwigs was terrifying. I was sure I had failed it. I answered 'no to most questions like 'have you studied any laws, do you have any books on law, did you go to the police exhibition etc. Each time I said no, I felt I was losing the battle. But, after the interview they said 'well done for being honest under extreme pressure, and I was through. Today, the vetting needs to improve as a lot of zealots and power-hungry misfits are getting through. (not to mention - short arses :D )

    Someone once said you should have your own show In in 100% agreement. That Security guard says he can’t allow you to do that. Is he completely bonkers looking through a piece of Perspex and writing on it. He needs to get his head sorted. Power trip. . Too many security guards like this. His arguments were bonkers. Love your videos. Thank you.
