I think this has got to be the BEST pallet knife demonstration on you tube. Very well done !!!
Hey thanks for the positive comment and appreciate the feedback.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST LESSONS IVE EVER SEEN ON HOW TO USE PALLET KNIFE..THANKS SO MUCH GINGER
thanks so much. and your feed back is very important to us.
Hi Ginger, I’ve seen some demonstration with pallet knives, but I must say that I learned the most from yours. I think I’m gonna watch it again because it takes me a little longer than most.
Wow, thank you! . Using knives is about not over mixing the paint. and having several of the color hues on the knife at once. Letting the paint skim over and be willing to take a couple of days to layer some areas. Glad you found it helpful.
Sunburn was a great description!
Yes and yes. Its like decorating a cake as much as painting. Just a light touch.
Thank you so much for all of your tutorials! I am a new artist at 62 and you are a great teacher.
Richard Nagy Thank you Richard. I am really glad you are getting some help from these videos. If you are ever interested is seeing what my on line students are painting, go to my pinterest page: 'gingercooklive (all one word) and check out the three recorded lesson libraries as well as the art gallery board where I post my student artwork. thanks for writing.
Ginger
One of the best tutorials I have ever seen
Thanks so much, your support and kind comments mean a lot.
Oh, so that's the way you are supposed tp use a pallete
knife. Very well taught/shown. Thanks
Hey thanks for the positive comment and appreciate the feedback.
I learned more from you than several others ...YOU at least explain every detail ...in detail. Thank you!
+Frank E Thank you, I really believe that once on understands the potential of the palette knife its just a matter of practice to master it. I am pleased you enjoyed this video.
You are an amazing artist and I am so grateful that you are sharing your knowledge with us. I actually prefer this type of video over many others on RUclips, although I am grateful for all of them. It is informative, calming with no distractions. You say you were a 'one gal band' in this video and I say all the power to you Ginger! I thank you for the many hours of entertainment you have provided me.
Ginger watching you use the palette knife took me back 36 years when I was a teen and took lessons from a wonderful artist. Thank you for reminding how much you can and how much fun a palette knife is.
It is fun, thought it uses about 10x more paint. I recommend adding a Heavy gel to the paint as an extender, You can go up to 50% paint yo gel if you are going to paint large.
I just pitched a med wt. extender and I have clear gesso coming from Amazon today. What is your opinion on those two in helping extending the paint? Also I want to thank you for your prompt reply. 🌞
I like how you put the plate with the paint in front of the camera so we can see how you mix the paint with the palette knife. The blow dryer technique makes perfect sense! Thank you for the tips. They help in so many ways when painting!
Watching you paint, I'm feeling braver. I went out and got canvas, brushes, and paint this weekend. I haven't painted for 20 years, but I'm looking forward to picking up a brush, or knife again. Thanks Ginger. ❤️
+Sandra Nadeau this is awesome, I hope you will have the best time ever painting again. I do live lessons on RUclips 2 times a week. You can interact with the group and ask questions too. 1pm wed central time and 7:30 tues. pm central ( these are only up on RUclips for the hours that I am live and then are put on my website www.gingercooklive.gallery for academy members. )Ginger
As a new painter, and being unfamiliar with using a palette knife, I really appreciate this video which is full of good ideas and demos on how to enhance a painting with these techniques. Thank you!
This was so helpful. From South Africa. Thanks.
Your amazing! Thank you for the tips! Just got back into painting( Life got really super busy for 15+ years) Finally got some free time, 3 grown children... One married & my baby off to college. I did introduce them all to art (painting & sculpting) but somehow i stopped on a daily basis, but I'm back & thanks to your daughter (whom I watch daily) I found you!
Thanks, glad you are finding time to paint again. Cinnamon is great and very inspiring.
I do live RUclips classes most weeks on Monday 7:30 central pm. Tues. 7:30pm and Wed. 1pm. the Tuesday and Wed classes usually do not stay up on you tube but are for my Art academy subscribing members along with a third lesson which I add each week to our Video Lesson Library. We have over 160 videos which include personal art coach with the monthly subscription www.gingercooklive.gallery (you can try us out for as little as 9 days for $9.95 for all those videos. )
Awesome tutorial. I learned a lot not only on how to use the knife, but also on how to get some really nice color tones.

I like the loose, textured look of these. Thanks for the tips on using a palette knife.
Thanks for the explanations of how’s and whys. I’m just learning to palette.
You are so welcome! Its really a practice thing. I think you will find its just a matter of the right knives and not over mixing the colors.
Thank you, you're a great teacher and I like the pacing of your speech. It's really helpful how you explain exactly everything you're doing.
+naturallymagic88 Thank you, I am glad you found this helpful. I do livestream demo/classes on Tuesday nights 7central and 1pm Wed. weekly. stop by and hang out with the group some time.
Excellent demonstration. Thank you so much.

Victor, Thank you again for writing. It you would like to see what my larger painting look like where I do a bit of both palette knife and brush go to; www.gingercookstudios.com I have not been able to update this website in some time because the computer language that was used to create it is out of date, but you can see my gallery of art. You might like the paintings I did of Southern France. Colours, very close to Spain was my favorite place to paint. Hugs back, Ginger
*****
Victor

Stay tuned for a special event this labor day live show as we have scheduled Daniell Elliott to do a palette knife demo as it is always fun to see how other professional artists handle their tools. Daniell was on this past month showing how to paint clouds as a left handed artist.
Thanks for explaining while painting.
Glad it was helpful!

***** I am watching it now! Great video!
One day I'll try the pallet knife.
Thank you for the encouragement.
Great job!
Jon and I hope you have fun with this.
Love learning these techniques. Thank you
Unexpected - Ginger said it won't work with a plastic palette knife. Too flexible I guess. I'm new to this. Thanks, Ginger, for giving me more confidence.
You need a sharp edge. There are some plastic knives that have it now but I still prefere a metal edge
Lighthearted tutorial! Thank you for the helpful techniques!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent tips and tricks. I want to try it.
Hey thanks for the positive comment and appreciate the feedback.

A lot of good pallet knife techniques, and explanations. Excellent teacher! Thanks
Wow! What a great intro to palette knife painting. I was intrigued by the way it started to become something just from the practice work. You're the best Ginger!!!!! :)
Hi Ginger, its the first time i see how you panint with an palette knife. Its so nice to see how you did it. My compliment.
I love your teachings
Bruce Highsmith Super, I really appreciate your comments and kind words. Glad I could be of help. Ginger www.gingercookive.gallery
Wow. I've recently started painting more with palette knifes after been a bit intimidated about them to be honest. It's really exciting to use different tools..This video is great. I can't wait to use these tips to improve my painting. The way you mix the colours lightly rather than like "cookie doe" blows my mind.ive always mixed religiously. Wet on wet too. I can't wait to paint now! Really great. Thanks for uploading this!!
Michael Sanderson Where they get a bit tricky is when you start adding heavy gel mediums to them to make paint go farther. Now nothing is drying. sometimes its a good idea to have a few painting started at once so you can allow the paint to skin over before going on. but if you are going to be doing large canvases I would suggest practicing with adding mediums (up to 50/50) which will give your art an even great impasto effect.
This was great fun and I learned a lot, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was very helpful. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Absolutely LOVE this video. Thank you Ginger

Ginger you are amazing!
+Angela Gutierrez thank you Angela. I am very pleased you like it Ginger
I hope you read this Ms Cook. It was Bill Alexander, a German painter that taught Bob Ross the technique Bob used. Mr. Alexander not only used the pallet knives for painting various applications, but also exclusively large paint brushes. He also painted " wet on wet". Mister Alexander also had a television show and published books: The art of Bill Alexander". He claims he developed the technique to paint rapidly.
Yes and Yes and thank you for taking the time to write and share this.
So now I need to add some palette knives to my bag of tricks! Love this video ... very informative. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

Thank you for sharing I learned more hear than I did with hours on other videos nice and clear instructions with no background music which is great for me because I had a Stroke last year and I cannot listen to instruction with background music I’ve got a broken brain. Thanks so much, your support and kind comments mean a lot.
This is quite helpful! Thank you for sharing so much.
Ginger, I have only been playing with painting, acrylic or otherwise, for a couple of months. Loving it. Hooked! The gal that introduced me to this art gave me a few names of artists to learn step by step techniques. You & your daughter were 2 of them😊 THIS video was my absolute most favorite, because it felt like a one on one, intimate lesson. I felt confident & calm, soaking it all in. These feelings are not all present during any of your other tutorials. Do not get me wrong. You are fabulous & I'm learning lots. Thank you. ❤ Here is my observation on other videos I've watched in my short "history", via scattered videos, older & newer: First off,
I am not a "hater as you & your husband use the term often - I'm guessing some of those times may be because your audience (including myself) watches the videos for YOU & your lessons, & wish that your husband was quiet & invisible. We don't need to see his picture that takes up part of the screen, or hear his self appointed comedy hour, which he stars in. I realize that sounds so nasty, but for me, it's the truth, to a point where I search for other tutorials, that are not yours or your daughter's (for the exact same reasons). You are both so talented, but your husbands maybe could concentrate on camera angles & showing the actual lesson & techniques for us beginners, which the videos are meant for, instead of interjecting constantly with their yacking & bantering with you. It is so distracting, that all pleasure is lost. That cannot be your goal when teaching beginners..... I doubt my comments will make any difference in how you run your business, but I am praying some small part of this rings true, that something clocks in your brain, that possibly acknowledge some adjustments are due.
I do thank you for your time & consideration. Have the most God blessed of days.
Lori
While we have lots our earlier videos without my Jon on RUclips, my main goal it to show you some pointers in acrylic painting that will help you on your art journey. We encourage you to take a look at our website as we have over 500 beginner to advanced tutorials with just my voice. JUST MY VOICE AND INSTRUCTION. HERE IS A FREE VIDEO FROM MY WEBSITE THAT CAN PERHAPS SHOW YOU THE DIFFERENCE. You must sign up as a free green member to see it. www.acrylicpaintingwithgingercook.com/courses/introductory-acrylic-paint-tutorial-of-an-apple-leaf-and-a-slice/
Because yes, it is a business, with hours and hours of time and videos, in our On Line Art Academy our students pay monthly or annually for our tutorials which are released very week, (just my voice) from one her tutorials to 10 hrs. Our Red, Purple and Blue members can send their painting in to me for Personal art coaching. ) that being said;
We are not for everybody, but have a huge following of viewers on RUclips, who not only love the both of us, but really understand the FREE tips in acrylic painting we give each week 5:30 central time on Mondays.
If you find our channel too distracting, I would suggest painting with Jane,... not everyone learns at the same speed or the same way. Good luck as you look for a FREE instructor that will be best for you. I appreciate you taking the time to write.
@@gingercooklive Thank you for responding. I will check your website & look forward to more of your tutorials as a member. Choices are wonderful. The American way. Thank you. Have a Good bles
