      Wow, thank you! . Using knives is about not over mixing the paint. and having several of the color hues on the knife at once. Letting the paint skim over and be willing to take a couple of days to layer some areas. Glad you found it helpful.

      It is fun, thought it uses about 10x more paint. I recommend adding a Heavy gel to the paint as an extender, You can go up to 50% paint yo gel if you are going to paint large.

    Wow. I've recently started painting more with palette knifes after been a bit intimidated about them to be honest. It's really exciting to use different tools..This video is great. I can't wait to use these tips to improve my painting. The way you mix the colours lightly rather than like "cookie doe" blows my mind.ive always mixed religiously. Wet on wet too. I can't wait to paint now! Really great. Thanks for uploading this!!

    • @gingercooklive
      @gingercooklive  9 лет назад

      Michael Sanderson Where they get a bit tricky is when you start adding heavy gel mediums to them to make paint go farther. Now nothing is drying. sometimes its a good idea to have a few painting started at once so you can allow the paint to skin over before going on. but if you are going to be doing large canvases I would suggest practicing with adding mediums (up to 50/50) which will give your art an even great impasto effect.

    I hope you read this Ms Cook. It was Bill Alexander, a German painter that taught Bob Ross the technique Bob used. Mr. Alexander not only used the pallet knives for painting various applications, but also exclusively large paint brushes. He also painted " wet on wet". Mister Alexander also had a television show and published books: The art of Bill Alexander". He claims he developed the technique to paint rapidly.

    Thank you for sharing I learned more hear than I did with hours on other videos nice and clear instructions with no background music which is great for me because I had a Stroke last year and I cannot listen to instruction with background music I’ve got a broken brain. I’m only 37 so I have plenty of time to recover hopefully x

    Ginger, I have only been playing with painting, acrylic or otherwise, for a couple of months. Loving it. Hooked! The gal that introduced me to this art gave me a few names of artists to learn step by step techniques. You & your daughter were 2 of them😊 THIS video was my absolute most favorite, because it felt like a one on one, intimate lesson. I felt confident & calm, soaking it all in. These feelings are not all present during any of your other tutorials. Do not get me wrong. You are fabulous & I'm learning lots. Thank you. ❤ Here is my observation on other videos I've watched in my short "history", via scattered videos, older & newer: First off,
    I am not a "hater as you & your husband use the term often - I'm guessing some of those times may be because your audience (including myself) watches the videos for YOU & your lessons, & wish that your husband was quiet & invisible. We don't need to see his picture that takes up part of the screen, or hear his self appointed comedy hour, which he stars in. I realize that sounds so nasty, but for me, it's the truth, to a point where I search for other tutorials, that are not yours or your daughter's (for the exact same reasons). You are both so talented, but your husbands maybe could concentrate on camera angles & showing the actual lesson & techniques for us beginners, which the videos are meant for, instead of interjecting constantly with their yacking & bantering with you. It is so distracting, that all pleasure is lost. That cannot be your goal when teaching beginners..... I doubt my comments will make any difference in how you run your business, but I am praying some small part of this rings true, that something clocks in your brain, that possibly acknowledge some adjustments are due.
    I do thank you for your time & consideration. Have the most God blessed of days.
    Lori

      While we have lots our earlier videos without my Jon on RUclips, my main goal it to show you some pointers in acrylic painting that will help you on your art journey. We encourage you to take a look at our website as we have over 500 beginner to advanced tutorials with just my voice. JUST MY VOICE AND INSTRUCTION. HERE IS A FREE VIDEO FROM MY WEBSITE THAT CAN PERHAPS SHOW YOU THE DIFFERENCE. You must sign up as a free green member to see it. www.acrylicpaintingwithgingercook.com/courses/introductory-acrylic-paint-tutorial-of-an-apple-leaf-and-a-slice/
      Because yes, it is a business, with hours and hours of time and videos, in our On Line Art Academy our students pay monthly or annually for our tutorials which are released very week, (just my voice) from one her tutorials to 10 hrs. Our Red, Purple and Blue members can send their painting in to me for Personal art coaching. ) that being said;
      We are not for everybody, but have a huge following of viewers on RUclips, who not only love the both of us, but really understand the FREE tips in acrylic painting we give each week 5:30 central time on Mondays.
      If you find our channel too distracting, I would suggest painting with Jane,... not everyone learns at the same speed or the same way. Good luck as you look for a FREE instructor that will be best for you. I appreciate you taking the time to write.
