Time to dive into his discography! Michael Jackson loved Al's work so much he provided anything he wanted to recreate the videos. From the sets, props, choreography, whatever he could. He does have his own original tracks, but got famous doing parodies. Artists would say that when he does a parody of your song, you've "made it".

The thing with Weird Al is, it's not just that his parody lyrics are masterful in sounding like the originals, but that his videos are often shot-for-shot remakes/parodies of the original artist's videos. Find a side-by-side of this one with the original video; it's AMAZING.

I went to a Weird Al concert the first time he came to Ireland. It was incredible. He was 60 years old at the time but he was jumping around the stage for almost 3 hours, doing kicks over his head, and changing costumes so many times, I lost count. I've been a fan of Weird Al since I was a child, and I always will be. If he ever comes back, I'm there.

Weird Al is absolutely brilliant. It is actually hard to do good parody, and his is spot on! You asked if he only did parodies? He obviously does one-to-one parodies, like you just watched, but he also does stylistic parodies (re: Dare to Be Stupid in the style of Devo), and with every album he would put together a polka mashup (he plays accordion) of several current pop hits. But, yes, he also writes his own original stuff. Hard to recommend a specific song, just hit up his whole catalog! But if you want to hear the man's rap chops, check out Hardware Store.

As most have said below. Michael was a massive fan of Al's.
Naturally Al always asked artists if he could parody their songs. When he asked Michael, he felt honoured and was stoked. However he had one demand, that Al leave the choreography and making of the film clips to him. In so when you watch this clip, everything IS ACTUALLY the same sets and Michael helped Al ham *cough, cough* everything up as much as possible which made it even more funny.
Michael took great pride in helping Al do these videos, Fat and Eat It.

He does basically 3 types of songs:
-Direct parody: Like this song, it's a rewriting of an existing song to have humorous lyrics.
-Pastiche or style parody: It's an original humorous song done in the style of a particular band or artist, but not a direct parody of one of their actual songs. One of my favorites he does of this kind is the song Bob, a style parody of Bob Dylan. Another great one is Genius In France, a style parody of Frank Zappa on which Frank's son plays the guitar part.
-Polka medley: This just takes bits and pieces of popular rock/pop song lyrics and puts them together over polka music. Most people tend to either love these ones or hate them, personally I love them.

He describes all the things he would rather do than to spend one more minute with this woman. They include things like getting 100,000 paper cuts on his face, sticking his nostrils together with Crazy Glue, diving into a pool filled with double-edged razor blades and cleaning all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with his tongue. 80% of Al's discography are his original songs. He's released 14 studio albums and less than half are parodies, plus he writes music for movies, tv and commercials.

It would have made it even funnier for him if he had watched the original MJ "Bad" video just before seeing this because then you can appreciate how nearly identical the two videos are.

He's got both originals and parodies. Both are frickin' hilarious. So glad you found this rabbit hole.

Unlike most parody makers, weird al is actually very respected in the music industry

Dude at wish you could remember the original video, you’d realise how amazingly correct this one is, so well done. This was always my favourite, but then again I say that for a couple of others too. And every second line is “that’s the best line of them all”, but so is the next one!

Having watched all your other "Weird Al" reactions first, it's fun to finally watch your first one. Just two months later you're hooked, lol. I've been a fan of his since I bought "In 3-D" on cassette back when it came out. One thing you should do is watch the original videos of the songs he parodies, because he matches them as close as comedically possible. Welcome to the community, brother 🤘

Along with the other songs mentioned in comments, he parodied Madonna's "Like a Vir***", called "Like a Surgeon". That was great too

There are three of Weird Al’s songs I sing when I hear the original music…”Beat It”/“Eat It”, “Hey Mickey”/ “Hey Ricky” and “Another one Bites the Dust”/ “Another one Rides the Bus”….his other parody I love is “White and Nerdy”

"Another One Rides The Bus" a parody of "Another One Bites The Dust" was his first parody. Living With A Hernia and Trapped In The Drive-Thru are musts.

He does have original songs as well, but his parodies seem to be much more popular. When he reached out to Michael Jackson seeking permission to do this video MJ actually offered to let him use the same set that he used for Bad and even helped with the choreography.

Almost all of Al's albums also usually have a polka medley on them. Takes a bunch of popular songs and does a medley of them in a polka style. My favorite one is the "Angry White Boy Polka" lol

Best thing about Al is he always seeks permission from the original artist. MJ was a huge fan only drained him once, he wanted to a black and white version called eat all night , but MJ thought the message of the song shouldn’t me mocked. Prince refused all his attempts, for everyone else get an Al parody is a badge of honour
