    My best Pal of 33 years was from Belfast. I sponsored him for his "Green Card", and he introduced me to this movie. We made a promise to do this piece at the funeral of the one of us who went first. I wound up doing it for him as the opening to his eulogy before about a thousand mourners who turned out for a transplanted solicitor who practiced law in a Mid-Atlantic County seat. I can never watch this clip without a tear in the eye and thoughts of him and our friendship!

    This scene always reminds me of trying to get my granny in her coffin out of her narrow corridor house. She ended up in every position possible. Had she been alive there would have been roars of laughter coming from the coffin.

      I hope you've seen the movie and get what is actually happening in this scene. And this isn't me trying to "gatekeep" or anything -- if you've seen the movie, you understand what I'm talking about. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and find yourself a copy to watch. This really is a sweet scene, with or without context. I just don't want to post spoilers in the comments.

And their own included many other immigrants who werent Irish. They were my parents and I wish I was their equal x

    I said this for my Uncle Jack, who died of cancer last year;
    John Harrington Jr. was my beloved uncle, and therefore also my great friend. But I wish I had told him that more often. The words spoken at a funeral are spoken too late for the man that is dead. What a wonderful thing it would be to visit your own funeral, to sit at the front, hear what was said, maybe to see a few things yourself. Uncle Jack and I, as well as my entire family, grew old together, but at times, when we laughed, we grew younger. If he was here now, if he could hear what I say, I'd congratulate him on being a great man, and thank him for being an uncle and a friend!
    R.I.P. Uncle Jack

    May we be forever in your debt!👼

    One of my favorite characters in this movie is The Lotto Man. Sure, he represents a threat to the whole plot that these small-town, would be schemers have cooked up. But other than being in that position due to the plot, everything we see of him is a genuinely nice guy just going about business. He even gets an emotional reaction shot in this scene.
