This is a great concept - love it! What kind of security will there be at the ports?

Matt X I think it would be best for people to man the ports as security, more jobs that way.

Well, the developing world has often been seen as somewhere that innovative technologies could make a significant difference but the history of such innovations have been mixed. Yes, there have been a few successes such as cell phones but there are many more that are now forgotten. For example, in the 70's, a commuter rail system was developed using a low tech, low speed centrifuge as the power source, the idea being that it could be spun up at each station by a motor at each station. It was counted as ideal for developing nations as the cars were inexpensive and diesel motors could be used where there were no electric lines and there would be no need of a dedicated electric power rail or other delivery mechanism. Well, after a few test tracks, this was never heard of again. In general, disruptive technologies are overlay technologies, the telephone system was an overlay on the telegraph infrastructure, and the internet was an overlay on the telephone infrastructure. Hence not every disruptive technology are well suited for developing nations. One characteristic of technologies that do work for developing nations are those which can be locally built such as evaporative coolers for produce ( similar to terracotta flower pot coolers). I hope these drone ports will "take off" but I would've been more impressed if the drones could be made locally perhaps if those 3d printers could make them and if the feedstock to the printers could be perhaps made from local crops or synthesized by FT reactors and gasifiers. Indeed, I would like to hear more of open sourced designs that could be built at small fabrication centers which preferably could also produce more 3d printers, CNC machines as well as drones.

But at least some people will own a basic weapon or something to take these drones down, scrap them, and sell them for money... The drones are even carrying precious cargo like medicine which can be sold for quite some cash.
It would be amazing if nobody would do such a thing, but reality still has it's downsides.

I just had this idea today turns out somebody already thought about it

I totally thought this video was going to be about the patent that Amazon filed for flying fulfillment centers that use drones to distribute goods.

I work on that, there are peculiar problems with civilian drones

I think that the droneport idea is a good one in theory alone. One can just image war lords or common thieves showing down these drones for their cargo. This would sabotage the entire program making it an unreliable source of delivery.

This is so funny I made a fake company for a report that did the same thing as this company

Yeah for my management of entrepreneurship class but mines was to deliver aid and food right to there location using geographical location and mines also going to be a nonprofit aimed to helping them so it can relieve the pains of not being able to get basic necessities

feels like drones especially made for Africa....still it is not a mass transportation system....The other modes of transport distracts the ecosystem and the animals around...
