Hi I have MG Astor MT Sharp variant. I drove 1500 kms from Kota to Nagpur and back from Nagpur to Kota. I thoroughly enjoyed drive. This was first time I drove on highway. MG Astor is awesome to drive…very stable and smooth..also rear drive assist and blind spot detection features were very useful for overtaking and U turns.

Hi. Great feedback on the trip. I have Astor Savvy CVT. I had driven it in highways and travelling more than 900 Km in 5 days. With reference to releasing accelerator pedal and decreasing RPM, I also observed it in CVT. Also, Adaptive Cruise Control increases RPM as compared to manually pressing the pedal (diff. 2.1 and 1.7 rpm respectively). Strange, huh.
Thanks 😊 The cruise works best on plain road with no elevation.. Else the car is always ready to roll! How much mileage you got on your CVT . WOULD LOVE TO KNOW 😀
@@prakashparadisee I got mileage of 16 on a six lane highway. But on typical Indian rural roads, it dropped to 13.6 kmpl. These figures are based on MID.
@@swetang maybe thats the Rubber band effect we have in CVT , WHERE RPMs increase but the speed doesn't in proportion! But this should not be the case with Torque converter!
You also need to consider the weight carried by car while driving. You were driving alone so the mileage was 14.98, if car carried 4 passengers then it would have given mileage of 13 approx.
Your assessment is 100 right but it is also worth to note that the car was brand new and not even a single service was done!! Engines in general have a so called run in period after which it gets smoother and performance also improves! So considering that and also the reviews of people who own the vehicle i can tell you that the car would anyway give you around 15 in long where the traffic would be 70:30. I have also shared some of my drives where i got more than this on highways but it was 90:10 highway driving!
Looks like Astor torque converter does not have lock clutch to remove torque converter continuous slip. But then it is surprising to see very good mileage. May be at 1500rpm, it is locking and releasing when pressed hard. Planning to take this.

Thank you so much for the appreciation 😊 I have the same model as yours!! Savvy turbo! I had three issues - 1. Horn was not working properly 2. There was some noise coming from sunroof while driving on bumpy roads 3. While going above 95 there was some vibration coming in the sunroof! Couldn't get the issue resolved there as it would have taken a lot of time! So I have given the car in Lucknow! There was no engine issue so that's nothing much to worry!
I booked MG Astor 1.5 CVT Glaze Red Sangaria Red (Optional) on October 21, 2021 by 11.04 a.m. Car is already in Dealer from last week but I will take delivery next week with 2022 new year registration. Very excited

Hi Prakash, thanks for the detailed video. Which variant will give better mileage? CVT or Turbo AT? I am considering Sharp CVT but open for Turbo AT if it gives better mileage (riding wise I am satisfied with CVT as I would primarily be driving in city). Other option is Creta (considering these 2 just because of panaromic sunroof). Almost wanting to go for Astor but a bit hesitant due to low mileage reviews (5-6).

I am planning to buy either Kushaq, seltos or Astor………but after seeing all these features I am feeling Astor will be going to be much better bet…….with almost same price range…….Astor have lesser bhp and torque but somehow ok as compare to features provided
Astor CVT might have low power but it's a nice vehicle! Also seltos is bad in safety and when you are investing so much you should consider the safety as priority!! Kushaq is a nice vehicle... I somehow felt it's smaller inside cabin! Might be my misconception but that's what I felt!

Nagpur is really a beautiful city! The food culture is also awesome! I tried dabeli and Pani puri was also very f different! Coming on your question- brezza and Nexon are great cars but Astor Is class apart! The feeling of sitting in a premium car can't come in Nexon or breeza If you talk about the service cost, i can tell you that mg hector service cost is quite less as compared to its competitors! So i am expecting similar service cost. The first service cost came was 0. Your second query is about service- if you are living in cities like Gwalior, Lucknow , Nagpur ( they all have service centers and in future the network is going to increase.) For an average Indian Tata and Maruti are great but if you want something nice and unique MG is quite good! Talking about this specific model- this is a hit car in Australia from past 3 years ( this is something not anything knows). I hope I was able to answer you!
Engine efficiency is no doubt low But adding to that - there are people who are getting a decent mileage too! All cars have this issue Some owners of Hyundai venue with 1.2 liter engine also complaint that mileage is too low! But some claims it to be good While I do agree that marginally it’s lower than the competition but drivers also need to take responsibility on how they drive the car
It's almost same as Creta! You can also chose a service package which costs 27000 for 5 years service and then you only need to pay spare parts costs! (Remember generally there is no parts replacement for first 5-6 years)

Great video , I have a Astor turbo Savvy. Completed 900kms so far but my accumulated milage is showing only 7.6 . Most of the time at low speeds ie below 40kms as I am using at hilly areas , narrow roads and heavy traffic, best I could see so far is 11.5kms . Yet to try long strech on highways. .
I think that the MILEAGE on hills will be less because the car has too much punch! I would suggest you to ride on manual mode ! The mileage definitely improves! I saw this thing on my Venue that it was not changing gears on hills, used the manual mode and it helped a lot in improving the mileage! 😄
Bhai i am all set to buy the 1.5 CVT model this Diwali. I have to drive 1500 km from my hometown to Bangalore. Does Astor provide good comfort and less exertion during such long trips. Please share any tips and tricks such as using ACC from your experience :)
Yes bro! You will love the comfort this car provides! I would suggest take regular brakes! It helps a lot! Acc works well on empty roads!! If there are two wheeler or cycles then prefer self driving

Kia carens is 200kg heavier than Astor with almost same power engine! If you don't need 7 seater (as you mentioned you don't) Then go for Astor! The waiting period of both vehicles have increased a lot! I hope you have already booked it!

Thanks for the absolutely helpful video. How are the NVH levels on high speeds, does tyre and wind noise come inside the cabin? I’ve booked the Savvy CVT since my drive is mostly in the city and sometimes on highways. I didn’t find it underpowered in the test drives but somehow I see a lot of such comments. Need to recheck :)
The NVH Level is very low on high speeds! I was planning to get some noise cancellation done but I don't think it's required !! CVT is a great choice! I don't think that it's under powered! Just that the Turbo has lot of punch 👊
The next day i got the delivery of the vehicle i started my journey form South India to North India! It kept my cool while driving thecar because the acceleration is very responsive and it takes a little to drive rashly! The general concept of driving is - after 1000-1500kms you get used to your car and then you start judging the car engine in order to get better mileage! So it's nothing to do with the service but it's about you spending time with the car

If it's Astor go for Savvy! ADAS is seriously impressive if your driving is more than 40% o. Highways! Taigun gives Superior engine and handling! Astor gives Superior overall experience
Thanks erfan for commenting! I had roof rail issue and a noise was coming from behind when i was traveling on bad roads My horn was also not working properly! When i came to Lucknow - the service guys changed the roof rail after so many inspection! Everything done now i have no Issues! Since the issues were not realated to engine or suspension so i didn't worry too much!
Hi Prakash, I know you own 1.3 AT but I have confusion on CVT mileage. I am hearing CVT is giving only 6-7 mileage in city traffic but other rivals are giving 9-10 (Crete/Seltos/Taigun) in same condition. Any idea on this ?
CVT needs a tuning! With so many complaints , i am sure MG will do something about it! MG should be aware that we do care about mileage and a low mileage car isn't good for us! Hopefully a new solution will come soon!!

It's a very very good option! The best value for money car and it gives a lot of features for its price! The service cost is similar to creta (segment best) and mg is really going to give a tough competition to Hyundai and Kia! So you can go for the base varient without any second thought! The mileage of manual transmission is also way better than automotive engine 😀😀

Bro did you have to keep your hands on steering every few minutes for the LKA to work on the expressway? Also, how good is the steering vibration warnings?
The warning is given by a beep and if you don't apply enough pressure on the steering it automatically gets cancelled! I used to gently place my hands and the car used to steer on its own! It's a great thing for expressways!
I am too upgrading from an elite i20 asta to Astor but i am a bit worried if the 1.5 CVT would be under prowered since i see a lot of comments around it. Most of my driving shall be within the city only. What is your thought, is the 1.5 CVT under powered and should i switch on to 1.3 Turbo?
No bro it's not underpowered... People compare it with 1.3 that's why they feel it's underpowered.. Now it i compare 1.3 with Mercedes...i feel my car is underpowered.. There is no end Best car is the one which comes within our budget 😊😊

Android auto is the best thing on this ! You can use Google maps and listen songs at the same time! Also if you are not using Android auto then saavan app and navigation can be used together!!

CVT is a great choice for comfort and mileage! If I had a CVT on the same route my mileage would have been apprx 17.5 ! Turbo is very aggressive! CVT will also cruise nicely at high speeds on Highway! Only when you have to overtake you will see the difference! 120bhp is not less at all! If you don't care about milege then Turbo car will be like a bliss for you!! I had to control a lot else mileage could have gone more low .. I hope I was able to give you a reply sufficient enough! Mileage depends on driving method a lot! Just for an example - Honda amaze automatic used to Chaim mileage of 15.6 but i used to get 17-18 on highways and 12 in city! I generally drive easy and don't push the vehicle too much in first or second gear as the car mileage decreases a lot ! Showroom guys won't give you a big figure as they know not everyone drives easy and then the customer would come and fight over mileage. If the mileage figure is a big big concern for you then i would suggest you to go for 1.0 liter DCT. It gives a good mileage But even in that case do remember if you don't drive nicely , can't won't give good mileage !

I had a talk with few people who are driving the car in hills! They are very happy with the performance! I personally did few cornering on this route and felt that it is very grounded! On rough patch i found the suspension to be little soft -little bit!! Not a problem though Which varient are you planning to buy?

Hi prakash Whether Astor comes with paddle shifters . If not , whether it's a big deal . Whether it take away sporty driving feel from driving automatic. I booked Astor & I came to know that there is no paddle shifters . While taigun ,kushaq , creta , seltos have paddle shifters
Paddle shifters are not a deal breaker! Honda has been giving these in their vehicles from a long time! But if you ask the owners ,how many times do you use it, they would say never Paddle shifters are meant for sports car where the acceleration is so high that you can't remove your hand from the steering else you wil meet an accident. It's a cute little feature for basic cars having minimal power. And there is one more thing that i would like to bring to your notice is that- paddle shifters are used in sports mode. In India everytime is concerned about mileage so can't use much. I have used sports only once in 4 months that too while making video! Hope this helps

Yes we do have the Sports and Triptonic great box which is helpful on hilly areas! I generally recommend using the triptrnoc gears as there is a good sense of control over the vehicle on the hills!!

Hi I have MG Astor MT Sharp variant. I drove 1500 kms from Kota to Nagpur and back from Nagpur to Kota. I thoroughly enjoyed drive. This was first time I drove on highway. MG Astor is awesome to drive…very stable and smooth..also rear drive assist and blind spot detection features were very useful for overtaking and U turns.

Hi. Great feedback on the trip. I have Astor Savvy CVT. I had driven it in highways and travelling more than 900 Km in 5 days. With reference to releasing accelerator pedal and decreasing RPM, I also observed it in CVT. Also, Adaptive Cruise Control increases RPM as compared to manually pressing the pedal (diff. 2.1 and 1.7 rpm respectively). Strange, huh.

You also need to consider the weight carried by car while driving. You were driving alone so the mileage was 14.98, if car carried 4 passengers then it would have given mileage of 13 approx.
Your assessment is 100 right but it is also worth to note that the car was brand new and not even a single service was done!!
Engines in general have a so called run in period after which it gets smoother and performance also improves!
So considering that and also the reviews of people who own the vehicle i can tell you that the car would anyway give you around 15 in long where the traffic would be 70:30.
I have also shared some of my drives where i got more than this on highways but it was 90:10 highway driving!
Indeed, astor is the best option in this segment.

Looks like Astor torque converter does not have lock clutch to remove torque converter continuous slip. But then it is surprising to see very good mileage. May be at 1500rpm, it is locking and releasing when pressed hard. Planning to take this.

I had three issues -
1. Horn was not working properly
2. There was some noise coming from sunroof while driving on bumpy roads
3. While going above 95 there was some vibration coming in the sunroof!
Couldn't get the issue resolved there as it would have taken a lot of time!
So I have given the car in Lucknow!
There was no engine issue so that's nothing much to worry!

Hi Prakash, thanks for the detailed video. Which variant will give better mileage? CVT or Turbo AT? I am considering Sharp CVT but open for Turbo AT if it gives better mileage (riding wise I am satisfied with CVT as I would primarily be driving in city). Other option is Creta (considering these 2 just because of panaromic sunroof). Almost wanting to go for Astor but a bit hesitant due to low mileage reviews (5-6).

I am planning to buy either Kushaq, seltos or Astor………but after seeing all these features I am feeling Astor will be going to be much better bet…….with almost same price range…….Astor have lesser bhp and torque but somehow ok as compare to features provided
Astor CVT might have low power but it's a nice vehicle!
Also seltos is bad in safety and when you are investing so much you should consider the safety as priority!!
Kushaq is a nice vehicle... I somehow felt it's smaller inside cabin! Might be my misconception but that's what I felt!

If you talk about the service cost, i can tell you that mg hector service cost is quite less as compared to its competitors!
So i am expecting similar service cost.
The first service cost came was 0.
Your second query is about service- if you are living in cities like Gwalior, Lucknow , Nagpur ( they all have service centers and in future the network is going to increase.)
For an average Indian Tata and Maruti are great but if you want something nice and unique MG is quite good!
Talking about this specific model- this is a hit car in Australia from past 3 years ( this is something not anything knows).

But adding to that - there are people who are getting a decent mileage too!
All cars have this issue
Some owners of Hyundai venue with 1.2 liter engine also complaint that mileage is too low! But some claims it to be good
While I do agree that marginally it’s lower than the competition but drivers also need to take responsibility on how they drive the car

You can also chose a service package which costs 27000 for 5 years service and then you only need to pay spare parts costs! (Remember generally there is no parts replacement for first 5-6 years)

Great video , I have a Astor turbo Savvy. Completed 900kms so far but my accumulated milage is showing only 7.6 . Most of the time at low speeds ie below 40kms as I am using at hilly areas , narrow roads and heavy traffic, best I could see so far is 11.5kms . Yet to try long strech on highways. .
I think that the MILEAGE on hills will be less because the car has too much punch!
I would suggest you to ride on manual mode ! The mileage definitely improves!
I saw this thing on my Venue that it was not changing gears on hills, used the manual mode and it helped a lot in improving the mileage! 😄
My mid is showed highest 22.5 kmpl and lowest 10.5 kmpl and average is 16.5 kmpl

If you don't need 7 seater (as you mentioned you don't)
Then go for Astor!

I’ve booked the Savvy CVT since my drive is mostly in the city and sometimes on highways. I didn’t find it underpowered in the test drives but somehow I see a lot of such comments. Need to recheck :)
The NVH Level is very low on high speeds! I was planning to get some noise cancellation done but I don't think it's required !!
CVT is a great choice! I don't think that it's under powered! Just that the Turbo has lot of punch 👊
1.5 cvt has an issue with initial pick up .. once u get to 50-60 speed.. then it goes fast
That's the main reason it gives better mileage in city!

The next day i got the delivery of the vehicle i started my journey form South India to North India!
It kept my cool while driving thecar because the acceleration is very responsive and it takes a little to drive rashly!
The general concept of driving is - after 1000-1500kms you get used to your car and then you start judging the car engine in order to get better mileage!
So it's nothing to do with the service but it's about you spending time with the car

I had roof rail issue and a noise was coming from behind when i was traveling on bad roads
My horn was also not working properly!
When i came to Lucknow - the service guys changed the roof rail after so many inspection!
Everything done now i have no Issues!
Since the issues were not realated to engine or suspension so i didn't worry too much!

With so many complaints , i am sure MG will do something about it!
MG should be aware that we do care about mileage and a low mileage car isn't good for us!

The warning is given by a beep and if you don't apply enough pressure on the steering it automatically gets cancelled!
I used to gently place my hands and the car used to steer on its own!

People compare it with 1.3 that's why they feel it's underpowered..
Now it i compare 1.3 with Mercedes...i feel my car is underpowered..

Android auto is the best thing on this !
You can use Google maps and listen songs at the same time!
Also if you are not using Android auto then saavan app and navigation can be used together!!

CVT is a great choice for comfort and mileage! If I had a CVT on the same route my mileage would have been apprx 17.5 !
Turbo is very aggressive!
CVT will also cruise nicely at high speeds on Highway!
Only when you have to overtake you will see the difference!
120bhp is not less at all!
If you don't care about milege then Turbo car will be like a bliss for you!!

When you said service karwana hai kuch issues hai car mein what exactly was the issue ? You never mentioned it !
1. Horn was not working properly
2. There was some noise coming from sunroof while driving on bumpy roads
3. While going above 95 there was some vibration coming in the sunroof!
Actually issues engine related ya suspension related nahi the so i was not much worried!
Mg Lucknow mein problem solve ho gayi thi! But it took them 4 days to understand that roof rail had defect 😄
Hi Prakash, I have gone through the video, I am planning to take Astor super variant, but the showroom itself is claiming a mileage of 13.5 to 14, how are you getting this much on highway, my biggest fear of not considering this is low mileage, i also had one owner experience in person, please clarify on this .

Mileage depends on driving method a lot!
Just for an example - Honda amaze automatic used to Chaim mileage of 15.6 but i used to get 17-18 on highways and 12 in city!
I generally drive easy and don't push the vehicle too much in first or second gear as the car mileage decreases a lot !
Showroom guys won't give you a big figure as they know not everyone drives easy and then the customer would come and fight over mileage.
If the mileage figure is a big big concern for you then i would suggest you to go for 1.0 liter DCT.
It gives a good mileage
But even in that case do remember if you don't drive nicely , can't won't give good mileage !
How about Vehicle GPS connectivity? Can vehicle be tracked all the time? How and whether can tracking be disabled if required?
Vehicle can be tracked easily via app
And it's very accurate
I haven't tried disabling the tracker.. will let you know after trying the same 😊

There is no noise on high speeds.... Mileage of manual in city is 12-14
And highway is 19-21 🙂😁

Whether Astor comes with paddle shifters .
If not , whether it's a big deal . Whether it take away sporty driving feel from driving automatic.
I booked Astor & I came to know that there is no paddle shifters .
While taigun ,kushaq , creta , seltos have paddle shifters
Paddle shifters are not a deal breaker!
Honda has been giving these in their vehicles from a long time!
But if you ask the owners ,how many times do you use it, they would say never
Paddle shifters are meant for sports car where the acceleration is so high that you can't remove your hand from the steering else you wil meet an accident.
It's a cute little feature for basic cars having minimal power.
And there is one more thing that i would like to bring to your notice is that- paddle shifters are used in sports mode. In India everytime is concerned about mileage so can't use much.
I have used sports only once in 4 months that too while making video!

Yes we do have the Sports and Triptonic great box which is helpful on hilly areas!
I generally recommend using the triptrnoc gears as there is a good sense of control over the vehicle on the hills!!
