Bingo…..everyone talks about growing the hobby, yet shops and breakers will pay any price out there, and pass it on to their customers. Even baseball has gone crazy. Do we not care about our customers anymore? These manufacturers will only change unless the hobby as a whole, stands up and says enough is enough, and we’re not paying these absurd prices on wax. Which is now overprinted and watered down because of all the parallels. I completely understand the hobby has grown a lot over the last 5 years, but prices on singles have significantly dropped the last 2 years, and I’d argue more people are leaving the hobby than getting into it. Unfortunately for the hobby to make a move collectively, you jeopardize your business. So there’s not any easy solution, but something has to give, or you’re going to drive out too many people who won’t come back. Just my 2 cents.

Where I live there is a flea market that sets up once a month and a vendor has a Joe Borrow 2020 chronicles base for 50 bucks. It is a 2 dollar card, I asked him about it and he said it's worth almost 100 bucks. Most of his cards are crazy prices like that.
I was at a Comic Con recently and there was 1 sports card vendor with astronomical prices like this. Trying to sell Illusions base cards for $15 each "except today he'd do $10" 🤡 They weren't even Rookies.
I mean it is silly pricing, but everyone has a right to price them how they want, and people have a right not to pay crazy prices. With that said, I live in Indiana, had 3 friends that set up at the Midwest Monster, all said they crushed previous records for money made in a weekend. Repackers paying 90-100+% of comps, not trying to haggle prices much.
People can ask whatever they want. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy from people who spike prices. Just like Ebay, if the price is too high, move on and find what you want somewhere else.
Well if a newbie buys it, goes home and finds out he got scammed, not sure how that would be good in any sense now that the person won't trust people or the hobby and drops collecting on the spot!

This happens a lot. And as long as people buy at these prices, it will never stop. Yesterday I was at the Planet Hollywood pool in vegas. One cocktail was $34.99. One frozen alcohol drink was $34.99. One 12oz can of beer was $15. I understand the whole “you’re gonna pay extra there” factor. But these prices were as unnecessary as these card prices. #americangreed

Well it's like all these big breakers on Whatnot, Fanatics etc. $100-2,000 + for a single team in a break. This hobby has changed so drastically since I got back in it 2 + years ago after a 20 year absence. It's really kind of sad. I've always gone by its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If someone has a base rookie for that price in a case. We're not gonna buy it we know better. I think it's up to us to educate sellers like this. But on the flip side when I'm behind the table and some guys pull current hot players out of my bargain box and give me that pissed look when I won't match comps from spring training prices. Maybe a numbered card hasn't sold much in 2 months since spring training... If it was $80 then and I'm asking $100 now, it's not unrealistic. Don't act like I'm being unreasonable. That stink eye thing bugs just as much.

When you’re cracking open cases and Panini is ripping you off. They’re trying to make their money back somehow. I went to a big show recently and most cards are slabbed. Way out prices and nobody was buying anything. Dealers spent most of their time ripping kids off for their cards.
Yeah comp law is stupid based on the true value people spend on resellers/whatnot scalpers. eBay has been the go to for desperado pricing. I get it that Lootbox and Geoff want to influence the market to buy on the cheap so they can flip and make money. It's not a crime to list above comps it's actually healthy for the regular folks in the hobby aka physical stores and card shops. Basic economics here the hobby has grown prices have gone up therefore the chase cards should go up it's not just for the rich.

And thats why mvp sports csrd went down same thing making up pricing on cards they need money back cause they opened up to much wax now im not around there anymore but i remember, the pricing was crazy rhen as well so i see rhey still try and do same ole thing. Go to a yard sale or flea market. 99.9% of the time they are SKY high in prices. Double the price if not more.
