told the fact-inspired tale of a newsboys' labor strike in 1890s New York. That cult is about to get larger with a new expanded stage version, "Newsies", with fresh songs by Menken and Feldman, and a new script by Harvey Fierstein, testing it wings at Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. Playbill was on hand Sept. 1 at the New 42nd Street Studios for a sneak peek at the show starring Jeremy Jordan as streetwise Jack Kelly, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as sidekick Crutchie and Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, a newly invented love interest.

When Les couldn't rip the pape, so Crutchie told him to put it on the ground and they ripped in in half together I almost started almost started crying. One of my favorite parts. Crutchie is just my favorite character, along with Davey and Jack.

so glad that they made jack more of an artist than a "cowboy". it's a beautiful alteration. ug, and andrew keenan-bolger is just amazing. he played crutchie so well, so perfectly, i miss him. but andy is doing a great job, too, so that's good. god, i love this show.

It’s SO WILD to see how far this story has come! First, well, obviously, it legitimately happened, but then the 1992 movie version, then this, what 2012 version? And now the 2017 version. It’s so crazy! It’s SO crazy! The acting between every character has improved in glorious ways, the music is even more fantastic, and the blocking that’s been changed, it’s just so awesome to see the transformations from ‘92 to ‘17, I wholeheartedly love this story 💙

I saw Kara when she was on tour with The Little House Musical, and know Jeremy Jordan from Smash. Love them both. Would be a dream come true to see this musical
I think that the goal here is not just to remake the movie on a stage. The goal is to recreate the themes and the characters that we all fell in love with, and improve them. If Jeremy Jordan was like Christian Bale in any way he wouldn't measure up, instead he creates his own Jack Kelly (plus has an outstanding voice), and I admire that. The new plot lines make the play more interesting and I, for one, can't wait to see it. XD

Maybe the movie would have done better at the box office if it had been on Bway first. Then you would have had a built-in audience.

Katherine replaces Bryan Denton in the newsies movie. Bryan wrote the article in the film, he was older than all of the newsies and he worked for the new your sun
