- Cold exposure is a critical component of XPT. From stimulating long-term cold adaptations to maximizing short-term recovery, along with many other benefits in between, the ice bath is a staple of the XPT Life. We get asked all the time, how can I build an ice bath set up like I see used by the XPT crew, in my own home?
In this video, XPT Director of Performance PJ Nestler walks you through an easy, cost and energy efficient home setup. It’s a very simple solution that doesn’t require you to buy any ice at all.

I asked the sales rep at Home Depot about buying a freezer big enough to accommodate just a single person.... it didn't go well!
I'm dyiiiiiing haha. so funny
Lol!

Great tips!! I use an ice freezer in my garage for baths too, but I didn’t know of a lot of these cleaning & other tips. Thanks!👍
Great tips! Never thought I’d see the day of considering buying a freezer for my ice baths, but here I am! I hear it’s a common way to do ice baths at home. Fab video, thank you 🙏❄️🧊
Thanks so much! Looking forward to doing this!
This was great thanks! I like the idea of adding salt, it will reduce the freezing temperature and allow you to make the bath colder.
Thank You! Because of space, I was looking to go with that same size. I'm 5'10" so I now know I should be okay!
Yeah 5'11 here was worried 15 cu feet was too small.
PJ!! I harkened to look up DIY cold plunge today and here you are top of the list. Amazing. Hope you’re well brotha! Norris Golberg
Great video. Thanks, man. 👍🏼
for sure, it's a good investment, buying bags of ice will add up quick
Good idea with the salt! I've seen other builds that include installing water cleaners. So nice to have an option to not deal with installing more stuff!
yeah I def need one of these
Thanks for the sharing
That was a excellent informative video !!
Thanks so much !!
I don’t have a garage or a yard. Small patio and starting to welcome curiosity as to how I can make this work for patio or a spare bedroom.
Wondering if I can get creative enough to make it decorative and aesthetic pleasing inside my small home or on patio.
I live in Phoenix Az so the temps are very hot especially Summer so I need to consider electricity and maintenance as well. I’d love to make this work for me.
I’d love to throw a ice plunge party with fire , shamanic, Wim hof breath works meditation. What a cool party !
Thanks man you really help me.
is it makes a little bit ice?
Brilliant
Hi PJ. Great video. I wonder: how do you know the freezer will not expand because of the pressure of the water sideways? Thanks, Felix
Fire and ice parties are life
Nice video. For me, safety...Unplug for sure (water and electricity is not a good mix), and then having somebody partner up to make sure you can get out in case something goes awry. Just my thoughts. Great ideas/tips on this video.
really cool setup
Hi, I wanted to know if you had any deformation of the freezer overtime ? Lots of people have added a liner inside to make it more waterproof and tougher and I was wondering if it was necessary. Thanks
Where did you find so many people to take ice baths with you? I can’t even find one 😂😂
Do you know where can order this drainage pipe like you have? and do you know if its a universal connector on all chest freezers? I have a second hand chest freezer that has no plug where the water drain and thinking what to do. Would love your input
Buy them used!
What do you suggest putting under the freezer to provide support with all that weight?
Can you use these freezers outside under an overhang? In Florida where it’s hot?
How’s the width for you coach? Are you squinched in there? About to buy the same exact deep freezer and i am 6’ 180lbs.
Do you have a link for where to buy that hose?
Just buy the individual parts from the hardware store and build your own. It's easy.
that’s so random, been watching your videos for a long time and randomly found you here 😂
Just out of curiosity what silicon product did you use and has it treated you well with no leaks to date? Thanks in advance for the shared knowledge.
Following
Silicone is NOT the way to go. It won't last long. I just scraped the silicone off my 1st cold plunge tub after 2 months and it was hardened and brittle. I ended up using a 2 part pond liner epoxy- Pond Shield
I was wondering if you add anything to your water ie Food grade hydrogen-peroxide as water treatment? My water stated to stink after about 10 days. I'm the only one who gets in once a day
He mentions towards the end that he puts epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide in it. I don't recall but he does give measurements.
@Daniel Alvarez Vlogs wont salt stop it from turning to ice
how much does this setup weigh?
Whats the. MAKE AND MODEL??
I really wanna do this but I'm 6'6'' and 221lbs so I need a big freezer.
I can't seem to find a timer, where could I pick one up?
Home depot :)
Throw an EBAY ozone machine in there to keep clean. Works great!
Is that X for XRP brother?
Could you say this brand please? Also internal dimensions please
Don't forget to unplug when using it!
would you get electricuted?
please unplug, you have to unplug the freezer
What the hell is the right temperature? 1:51
depends what youre going for. anywhere between 39-50 degrees is good though.
My shoulders go blue in mine
How ya gonna show us and not jump in
People be like: i wanna keep my ice bath clean..
me: jumps in the garden rain barrel xDDDD
its propably full of organic shit like mosqito larvae and other microorganisms and algae.. but its cold and i like it xD
i mean the whole point of ice bath for me is to strengthen health and immune system so idc if i get some microorganisms
we have a natural layer of microorganisms on the skin and they are actually part of the immune system, they take care of pathogenic microorganisms that
land on the skin and its like a naturally evolving ecosystem on your skin... much like plants and animals etc. create a biosphere on the earth,
you have a natural biosphere on your skin... and most microorganisms are actually good... i think like 90% or more of all bakteria are actually not harmful to
our body.. and we do rely on them not only on the skin but also in our digestive system so.. i really do not worry about the microorganisms in the rain barrel,
some of them might be bad but will be eliminated by my immune system and most of them will be neutral, some of them will propably actually be good and colonize my skin
biosphere layer with all the other microorganisms on there and become a part of me so... thats my point of view and the reason why i dont mind getting dirty..
beyond that, regular dirt is not bad at all... after all, we came from the dirt, we evolved in the dirt, we are built to handle all kinds of pathogens and so on,
given that we are healthy and strong :) but i do go in for a shower after coming from the rain barrel, i mean i do like the feeling of being clean :D just saying i believe
its overrated and overdone the level of cleanlyness in modern societies ^^
One theory that i personally believe is that the allergies epidemic is due to excessive Hygiene in modern societies. The immune system is not trained properly as a result you get allergies.
Question is - Does ice exposure + dirt cure allergies?
Testing on my case. Remember me in April for the results =)
Speaking of microorganisms I was slapping rejuvelac about my body from head to toe once a day for a couple of weeks a number of month's ago, and have noticed ever since feeling substantially cleaner and only bathe once a week now.
Это обычный морозильник?
Seal with JB Water Weld, silicone breaks down and pulls apart with all the weight
Don’t your toes get cold
No overrated (for health purposes) ice baths for me. Brrrr 🤣
You sure that’s 1/8” ? Looks like 3/8
YOU NEED A MICROPHONE DUDE
