I have been a Bio-Medical Engineer for laboratories for thirty eight years and this guy has educated me more than any big Pharmaceutical company ever did. Great Teaching and Hats off. Son Please publish your own book you will make a mint on it. ISA, CLES, Florida Health Care Engineers.
I have the medium and he sanitized his equipment and plate with star San and dunk his filter plates in just water....the question is can I dunk my filters in and soak them in star San or do I just dunk them in water
"it isn't the size of your tool"... The result is all the same.... waaaahahahahaa... George ya should have had some cheesy 70's pron music during that statement.. hahahahahaaa...
A huge thanks for all of your videos from Germany!! I'm starting a Kombucha brewery here and these videos are really helping me understand all the steps in the brewing process
Great info, probably one of the only licensed mead/wine makers I have seen who still use Star-San. But I love seeing so much familiar stuff on a larger scale.
Scouring velocity and disinfection. Aspects of a sanitary water distribution system. Precleaning an alcohol production system is more important than a drinking water system. Ask Flint Michigan. Well done!!
Most filter companies outline putting the sheets in the filter dry and running water through the filter "In pumping direction" for 5-10 minutes to flush the sheets before use... Why are you just dipping them in water?
Thank you guys so much for this video! I've seen 1 plate filtration video from a small brewery before, they didn't go deep in depth on how these filters work & it looked so crazy and intimidating I had resolved myself to commit to another filtering method when the time comes to scale up my beer brewing - but this video was significantly more straight forward and simple that, while it still looks like a lot of work, it takes most of the intimidation out of using these filters. Thanks again!
I've got the Mini Jet filter which is the baby brother of the first filter shown. It works great, but the filter pads are exorbitantly expensive. I haven't found an alternative pad. I now use a Harris filter that takes one Crystal-brite pad and looks like a flying saucer. It is gravity fed, but it does a great job. It is critically important that you de-gas your wine before adding a clearing agent. Filtration is only beneficial when your wine is already clear with zero sediment. Also, only bother polishing your wine if you are entering a competition or giving your wine away to someone you love.
You can filter it naturally by keeping the mash to rest for a week or so, the residues drop to the bottom and then you pump above it shows clear. I am afraid that filters can change or absorb the desired taste.
George, Chase made a statement that got me thinking. He mentioned that citric acid is not microbial friendly. I’m curious if it should be used then in those instances when I need to lower my pH? Is there a better acid that I should be using to try and get down to 5.2?
I’m currently trying to learn how to make mead. And I stumbled upon this video and was super proud to hear that you use citrus or the Rio grande Valley. 😁
How do you get the remaining wine in the filters to push throw once the batch is finished? I always have remaining wine leftover over that goes to waste.
The only thing you could do is run water through, but the majority just put that last bit down to waste (look at it as the same way we lose a little due to sediment loss)
Of course he did but I have a form rule I live by on videos (I never drink). I just think it detracts from the main purpose of providing information - it a quirk I have. George
Barley and Hops Brewing oh okay! I thought maybe he just didn't want to share. I felt like you should have had a sip though .... you seem a little quirky. Which is why I started following you. You're funny and have a lot of good info.

This comment fills us with trust 🤣 when you are “professionally trained” but learn more from a RUclips video .. welcome to the 2020s 🤪
I read the title of this video quickly & thought it read "Flirting Like a Pro" 🤣🤣🤣
I was like what is George up to now!! 😄😄
ABSOLUTELY the most underrated comment I have seen all day!
Great video and lol @5.48 that face!
That was priceless so we left it in. We'll get to meet him, hopefully, on future videos.
George
Thanks George I learn so much from your video 👍
friends, Super-Kleer will filter in one day.
I have the medium and he sanitized his equipment and plate with star San and dunk his filter plates in just water....the question is can I dunk my filters in and soak them in star San or do I just dunk them in water
You can dunk them in water or use star san. Doesn't really matter.
"it isn't the size of your tool"... The result is all the same.... waaaahahahahaa...

Great video! lol at the guy in the blue shirt 5:44 😂
Yeah, I thought I'd leave that in there. It was a little comical.
George

Whow!! Don’t these guys like the sound of their own voices. I gave up after abt 8 minutes when nothing had happened.
mead should NOT BE CLEAR! filtering mead is absurd!!!
Great job George and Colton, thanks for sharing. And to the the guy doing the work in the background.
11:16 Where are tanks Jerry and Kramer?
Seriously though, thanks a lot for the video, guys. I appreciate the great, honest content you are offering.
Like im REALLY going to do that...CMON!!!

It is amazing how seeing this in this level validates what we do as a community.
Priceless.
George
Barley and Hops Brewing Totally agree!! Keep up the great videos!
I always worry that I'm going to ruin my 5 gallon batches. Thats alot of wine

What’s the problem with the citric acid?
Carbon and Bentonite first pass pack of coffee filters a buchner funnel and vacuum flask for the second almost clear as water
There was no bonus info about how to ferment citrus?
Most filter companies outline putting the sheets in the filter dry and running water through the filter "In pumping direction" for 5-10 minutes to flush the sheets before use... Why are you just dipping them in water?
It's to soak them. Whether you put them in water first or put water through them, it doesn't matter. I'm assuming you've got a buon vino?
I found the quickest way to clarify Mead is to freeze it and then leave it to thaw out, the sediment drops out quicker.
Does it work if you just put it in the fridge at around 40°F?
@@sparklysparks77 No, it has to crystallize and freeze and then thaw out. Just cooling it doesn't work.
So this is why some people pasturize
Fantastic video! Really fascinating to watch this on a commercial level. I hope you get to film at a small distillery too:-)>
Detailed information on filtering wine. Thanks a plenty! 👍🏽
Really great video!
Thank you guys so much for this video!

More likely nominal
