Jane Siberry - probably the most underappreciated artist in contemporary popular music :-(

The Art Pop movement, too obscure for commercial success, too bad!

Except by her fans, who are an endless multitude. Screw the critics. She is a genius artist. No-one like Jane Siberry. Like you, I love her.

@@numerikproductions Shame she essentially stopped crafting songs and went to spoken-word soundscapes. She was a marvelous songwright and singer.

This song was my soundtrack when I was going through my second divorce, walking endlessly along the beach off the Santa Monica pier as the sun set. Steadily draining the sorrow and grief, weaving my emotions like fine lace with the tides, the breezes, the shadows and sun reflecting on the water coming in and out... I love this woman's work.

I'd been familiar with some of Jane's music before, but I remember exactly where I was whne I heard this song. I don't know why, this particular song, but I immediately bought the album. On cassette. (I'm old.) I've bought the CD twice, and now I still listen to it on my phone.

Jane is a rare gem. I've seen her live three or four times, and each show was very different and wonderful in different ways. She always surprises...I remember hearing about "Maria" and thinking "that's too bad...I don't want to hear her play jazz," and then I heard it and was completely blown away. Thanks Jane!

This album is one of the most extraordinary albums I've ever heard, with this title track being one of the highlights. However, the album is just begging to be remastered. The sound on the original CD is somewhat muted and flat. I can only imagine how stunning it would be if the sound were remastered to match the brilliance of the music.

First heard Jane's music in a record store in Vernon B.C. in 80/81 and she helped to put life into perspective in Toronto in Summer 2004. Had the great pleasure of meeting her in Sheffield last year. Jane's music is other-worldly and yet touches you time and again with it's brutal honesty.

I was fortunate to see JS live when this song was new.
A story of loss, it's truly one of the most soulful and melancholy songs ever.
It has been part of my life track for some years now.

    and deeply touching work.

This song should have been covered by Supertramp, around the time when they did their "Crime of the Century" disc. Does anyone else get that? It's such a potent song, and her album is altogether a work of great inspiration. And so underappreciated!
