    I've been fortunate in my life, but the one thing that hits home often is one night I went to bed as a 23 year old and when I woke up I was 54. It happens that quickly. Sure you have to make sensible choices in life, but remember it's only the one life you have. Don't wait until you have money in the bank... Mainly because before you know it your knees hurt and you can't climb that mountain, or before cliff jumping you consider your bad back. That's not doom and gloom, just the way life is.
    Make sensible choices, work hard, but above all... Grasp opportunity with both hands... I don't wish I was 23 again but I do wish I'd known at 23 what I know now.

    • @Mike_in_Thailand
      @Mike_in_Thailand 7 лет назад +9

      I went to bed as a 58 year old the day I retired, and woke up in my mid 30s ! ie, with enough sense not to do the stupid stuff from my 20s but not the work stress any more. Now I'm living in SEA, travelling and enjoying life !

    • @Steyrshrek1
      @Steyrshrek1 7 лет назад +3

      Dude I couldn't agree with you more, being 50 now, I ask where did the time go. There was always a tomorrow. I thinks its great that these young people are doing what they enjoy. They actually inspire me. Many people like to knock the younger generation. I've yet to meet anyone who on their death bed says I wish I had spent more time at work. I too do not wish to be 23 again those years between then and now have taught me much. That said you're only as old as you act. I'll soon be entering another stage in my life and would love to start something else. Maybe there's an interest for retired travel vlogers.
      Keep up the great work and keep pursuing your dreams. If you're in the Toronto give me a call love to meet you and take you for dinner.

    Very inspiring, especially the bit about leveraging social media, as someone who has also traveled even before social media was this accessible. Money does not give everyone the same value, some people live for adventure not having a penny to their name. Great video and I can relate to your message!

  • @DanikaMalovic
    @DanikaMalovic 7 лет назад

    I made a post on social media yesterday talking about how I quit my job to travel and how it's completely doable if you are passionate, save your money, use resources available etc. A stranger commented on my post that I was 'privileged' and that I was 'shaming' people that couldn't afford to travel... Obviously she knew nothing of my life or my past or what I've been through to get to the position I'm in today. It sucks that people make assumptions and come to conclusions when they don't even know you personally. At the end of the day you know that you're doing something right. Your videos are super inspiring and I look forward to your future content! ☺

    Damn Christian...... think you have awoken a long dormant fire within my heart.....I've been down in the dumps with everyday life....doing jobs that I hate, living paycheck to paycheck. But ever since I found your channel, I have come alive again. You're such a huge inspiration to me. I share almost all the same passions that you have, at least the ones you are kind enough to share with us. This is the beginning of a huge 180º turn in my life, and if it turns out to be exactly what I want it to be, I'd be honored to say that YOU had a major part to play in it. Keep doing what you're doing man. You're a huge inspiration and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so. I think its safe to say at least 258,121people (your total subscribers at the time of this comment) also see you as such an inspiration. Greetings from a new Subscriber!

    Don't listen to these fools. Haters believe your life isn't possibly so they immediately try to discredit their lack of adventure by saying that you haven't had to work for your life. Everything is possible until you make up excuses as to why you can't do it.

    Your finances have never been any of my damn business. My finances have never been any of your business. You're lucky and I'll admit to some jealousy, but the jealousy is my problem and I realize that. We all have to play with the hands we're dealt and make the most of them. To hell with anyone that begrudges you enjoying life.
    There's an idiot, (oh, wait, that would be me,) in Texas cheering you on. People that are jealous and scream that you haven't earned it can put their complaint into a suppository configuration. Stay lost, I'm loving every minute of it.

      Wrench245 i agree my savings at 35 after working 11 years in fashion is only double to what you had starting out in Thailand however jealous I am at your moderate privilege I do believe your mindset is probably worth more to your success than your “fallback”. Privilege can get you so far but hustle is what makes you. You may have had a better start out than most but I appreciate your hardwork.

  • @LivingFree207

    I love what you said...not IF you can do it but rather HOW you can do it. That is EXACTLY the right question. Most people think the dream or goal is too big so they don't even try. Anyone who wants to follow a dream just needs to take baby steps. One foot in front of the other. Research. Make a plan. Execute. Make mistakes. Learn by correcting mistakes...try again. NEVER give up :) Best wishes to you both. Hugs Melody

    So true Christian LeBlanc. People get jealous of me assuming that I might've won the lottery, because I travel twice a year. But the difference with me and those people are I don't smoke, I don't go out drinking or gambling every night, I make my own lunch and dinner, I own my car instead of having a car payment, etc. So many people are ignorant and see it like I have such an easy life, where I had to budget so hard. 15 Months. I'll be quitting. Thanks for the motivation. You encouraged me to pursue my Own Artistic Dreams again. I just need a travel mate to accommodate to enjoy it with. Taking applications. LOL.
    My first epic Journey will take me across the USA again, which was what I attempted 10 years ago, which I'll insert little snip-its into the series, with which I will meet my 15+ siblings and mom whom I've never met. I'll end in SF or Hawaii, depending on how it develops. Not to mention a Secret Movie I'll be shooting for the book I'm writing now. I wish you could be apart of it (Equal shares.) So, that's out there now. If anything I appreciate all the motivation you've given me indirectly. Can't wait to #getlost myself. Thanks for the #positiveattitude. Stay up.
    *Can't wait to get the Stickers. It's Going on my Scooter. I'm sure it'll get some glances across the US, lol. I'll be shouting out when I get back to a scheduled upload again. -Cheers.

    Nuggets of Wisdom from Christian Leblanc:
    00:12:08 I would rather be working with uncertainty doing a job that I love, rather than feeling a false sense of job security at a job I didn't even care for.
    00:15:15 Find the thing that you're excited about and try it out. Try it wholeheartedly and see what happens, because life is short and it's pretty incredible what happens when things work out.
    00:14:36 Here's something that I will leave you with, and it's this: It might sound cheesy hearing it from a 23-year-old, but LIFE IS VERY SHORT. I've already seen it go so quickly by me and life is only speeding up. I'm so glad that I've already escaped from what I consider to be the rat race. I'm so glad that I've stopped building someone else's dreams and working for someone else. It's so much more fulfilling to be able to every day, wake up and be working on the things that get me excited.

I think time lapse video of your progress might be awesome to watch too during your day. Cut's to challenges and interesting back story or ideas. Damn, I should be a creative director or something. • @annalang5687
    @annalang5687 7 лет назад +9

    You made a very good point about priorities. I once had a discussion with a friend who called me "privileged" for being able to travel to Australia and NZ on a working holiday visa. I started working when I was twelve and saved all my money for that trip. She, at 21, had never worked a single day in her life and stated she would attend TWO concerts that very weekend. Different priorities.
    Also, no one believes me when I say I paid for the entire trip myself, including flights. It was a working holiday visa, obviously I was working there as well. They only get to see the pretty pictures.

    Dude I hope you do another "advice giveaway" someday... I'd learn so so much from a little chat about the social media business world I think.
    And I fully agree with your ending point about life being too short. That's exactly what I try to live by and try to communicate to people around me when they're risking to get pulled into a form of negativity. ^^
    Great video, and don't mind the negative responses you get in a personal way. They just have to do some more research or check out your (and others') career path with this whole thing to start understanding it. :)

    For us Asians, especially for me, a Filipino, it really is a difficult thing to earn US$500 or about PhP 25,000. If in the US you can earn that in 4-5 days as you said, that same nominal amount is mostly the monthly pay for a 5-day a week, 8hr/day work for a common Filipino. For me, I can earn that same amount in 5-6 days but with 24-hours/day duty (I'm a Medical Doctor). What I'm saying is, it really is hard for an Asian from a middle class family to jump-start a Travel Vlog and quit their normal day jobs. If the commenters were mostly Asian, I definitely see where they are coming from. Understandable, yes, but then at the same time very negative and, yes, quite close-minded, as you yourself said, Christian. Hehehe.
    I know it must have been hard for you in the beginning. It must have been harder if you weren't a Westerner. Just saying. But what you did is great nonetheless. It must take more than finances to do what you do. It all boils down to Passion.
    Continue inspiring us with your dreams - and your travel videos of course. Hehehe. Excited to be LOST. I'm planning a 14-day getaway in Bangkok, Penang, Siem Reap, KL and SG sometime May 2017. Will look to you for mich needed travel tips! Mabuhay ka, Christian!!!

    The point you made about prioritizing and "travel NOT being for the rich" is so incredibly true...I get the same feedback when I go travel, "I wish I could afford *blank* and you're so lucky"...it's not luck, its work and everybody can afford it if they make travel a priority in their budget. For example, not buying the latest pair of shoes or eating tim hortons daily, little expenses add up big (super Canadian example )...For sure it can be tough sometimes, in between trips, when you want to splurge...I think another interesting point to add (especially for the 18-30 age range), working a dead-end job, without upward mobility/networking opportunities/value-added experience, is working for "money" for "money's sake" if the income earned is not put towards investing into something that will yield opportunities in the future, by this I mean, spending on unessential and impulse purchases - dining out/the latest fashion trends (etc...). If spending is not being allocated towards something that will open doors to opportunity in the future, you are de-valuing your time spent working that dead-end job for your paycheque. Christian, had you worked the best buy job and spent that 5k$ on Tim Hortons and expensive pants, you would have been wasting your time. But you used it to invest in your future. Society makes us believe that we have to work the 9-5, no matter what the job is and that travel is a luxury item afforded to only a select few. Anything outside these constraints is labeled as social defiance/not sustainable/improper. It's just not true and incredibly depressing. Entrepreneurs think outside the box and crush societal norms (i.e. 9-5 mon-fri)...there are some people who enjoy the 9-5 grind (its easy) and take comfort in their weekly paycheque and are satisfied with having someone else value their time (i.e. Deciding hourly wage - "you will be paid 10$/h), allocating 10 vacation days per year and 4 sick days... what's truly unfortunate is how those in the daily grind might never see the beautiful things in this world (only the inside of an office)....Always be critical and question everything society has defined to be to norm...You are an entrepreneur and you keep growing your business!!! You give energy/inspiration to the other entrepreneurs in the world - wish I had been this wise at 23 (I'm 25 lol).

    Bro... I can't even begin to tell you how inspirational your story is. I'm beginning a similar journey myself, although I'm not chasing the same path, I'm both scared and excited to spend my time doing something I'm passionate about instead of spending the rest of my life in the rat race living the life of a miserable, unhappy person, doing something I hate.
    I'm a photographer. I've worked in IT, debt collecting, insurance, finance, retail, etc. I've done it all, and I've always hated working for other people. I've been working a retail job for the last 7 or 8 years after getting myself into some trouble. Initially it was the means to an end in getting my fines paid back, and then I started to realize that I was trapped in my job. Halfway through that, I was gifted a GoPro for Christmas and thought I wanted to pursue videography/film making--which eventually led to my rediscovering how much I love photography and getting my first DSLR. I was getting less and less hours at my day job and picking up as much photography work as I could to supplement my income, and finally I realized that I could actually make good money behind the camera. They've continued to cut my hours to where there would be some weeks where I wouldn't be on the schedule at all, or maybe I'd get 10-15 hours. Well, about a month ago I got a letter saying they were no longer going to provide health insurance to me because my average hours fell below 25 hours per week, and I realized that was why they had been cutting my hours to begin with. Really shitty! Do you think this is the kick in the ass that I needed to take the plunge and risk of pursuing photography full time?

    Bless you! Following the same path and I don't think the hate is just on RUclips. Even offline people don't want to believe this life is possible. They're too scared to give up their securities and you present them with this great life that they will not be able to attain because being too scared. It pisses people off and they want to put you down for making them feel bad (while they're actually making themselves feel bad, it has nothing to do with you). Cheers to your road to a million subscribers and doing what you love!

    Dude you are the man. I look up to you so much. I am a 26 year old stuck in the rat race myself. I am still trying to figure out how to get out! Oh by the way, my wife and I are going to South East Asia in March! Your videos have been a huge inspiration. I can't wait to visit some of the places you vlog about. Oh, and about the comment that not all people can be travel vloggers. That is true about any profession. Our society needs a wide range of professionals to function properly. I truly believe that you and other travel vloggers provide an impactful product that makes people comfortable about the destinations they plan to visit. I myself feel much more knowledgeable and familiar with destinations in SEA because of your work, so thank you! I can't wait to meet you in person one day and chat some more. Christian, remember that it is always easy for people to criticize of what you have accomplished. Your success and achievements that you have earned through your hard work and your zealousness defines of who you truly are. More often, those people who are negatively commenting about you and what you do are those people who have never take risks in their lives. They have no single idea of the road you have traveled on just to get to that place where you are standing right now. You are not just a kind of vlogger who only entertains and travels around the globe. Instead, you are a kind of person who inspires, encourages, teaches, and motivates us becoming the better versions of ourselves. If only those people can take a look a little deeper of who you are and what you do, I'm sure they could get a lot from a 24 year old Canadian guy. As the saying goes, "Life's a climb, but the view is great!" And by the way, congrats to your brand new apparel line.
