Always amazing to see how little power it actually takes to get a sub moving.
I made a custom 10inch box in rear seat of Porsche 911 convertible with 60 watt amp, it was enough to make you puke.
@@altopstwo3934sure
@@altopstwo3934 At what 70hz?
i had 2 mtx 12’s on 160w and it was enough for the mirrors to shift
Installed one of these in a buddy's truck about 10 years ago. I had the amp installed in the glove box using 12-gauge wires, pushing a single 12 inch Earthquake sub. Worked pretty well, all things considered. Won't win any SPL trophies, but given the small size of the cab, and having the sub on the floor below the dash, it got the job done. For real cheap.
Right people think they need 135bd lol 😂😂to hit hard 110db is more than enough
People tend to forget how loud car systems got back in the day with low power!
I could see this being used in an RV for a small 6.5” or 8” sub to give a little better low end. In a car though, I would think the sound floor would be too high thus not giving enough volume with the low power compared to how good stock car audio systems are in a modern car.
Another great video Big D!!!
if it didnt have fake transistors it would be a cool amp
With lower power you can get a more efficient speaker with a softer spider and cone, and smaller tighter wiring in the coil. With a higher power speaker you need stronger components which also reduce its efficiency so you need more power to drive them to the same level.
The trade off is that the higher speaker can handle more power on the high end so it can end up being louder. But, you loose that efficiency so it takes more power to drive it at moderate volumes.
@@NBSV1 yea
I'm guessing S Bass is Super Bass, which was common to see in walkmen and other portable gear back in the 80s and 90s I'm told.
@@sirtainlee8725 yes, it was VERY common to see some kind of bass boost on electronics from the late 80’s through the 90’s.
This would be great for truck owners with a single or extended cab and a small slim box crammed under the seat. Plenty of good cheap subs to try too. tang-ban, skar, dayton, etc... Toss a midrange instead of a sub, and you will have incredible noise with even a cheap pair of speakers, as long as they have a halfway decent tweeter
Golf cart, boat, small car just wanting a cheap little more,i can see this being a useful amp
The Savard was the only thing that made that amp look good.
4 of these SLAM the Quad Box
You are absolutely right. I saw that sub flexing and said damn! Then he put it on the dyno and my amazement fizzled out.
That box is probably very efficient.
Bought this for a 3 ohm woofer in my RV, it's enough for people to complain about "the bass is too loud" from a couple campsites over. I call it a win for 40 bucks
i just bought a trailer that has a stereo deck and 6x5’s in the ceiling. i’m gonna do 1 Skar 15 in the trailer and kickers in the roof, only bought this trailer for storage for all my subs anyways
This would be cool for like an enclosed cabin tractor or whatever. Pretty good for $17!!!
I have an enclosed tractor! Ha. I do need to upgrade the sound in it. New phone, no audio jack, so can't use the radio anymore. I will start with an android headunit first tho. Not sure if i will add the boom or not. But will likely use budget gear like this in it.
Most of you are to young to remember the 100 watt fisher component sets of the 80's, but those 15'in black and white woofers could fill a school auditorium
Adding an external fuse is easy, Not have Clip/DC output protection is where you start torching voice coils.
As a owner of one and used it for year ( home audio) I have good experience maybe not the biggest in watts but it plays good with a good subwoofer as I said I think it great
I like it when I see people test these small Amps. it be nice to see more of them with different boards, because some crazy people like to build our own IE blue tooth speakers. and so many of them lie on their out puts. would be cool to see more test on small stuff so I can then select the best to build nice blue tooth speakers. ect.
The 'contril' switch was when I finally lost it... This was a great episode!
I bought a sub with that very amp built in it worked for a hour and died has no fuse so im pretty sure it fried something in the board and when it did work sound pretty good
Haha, darn! At least a replacement is only $20 if you want to fix it...
@@volvo09 I'm buying something else with more power and hits harder than it
I'm thinking the installer is supposed to put a fuse inline when one is not present on the amp.
Having the amp inside the box, or mounted to it, can be hard on the amp. That’s a lot of extra vibration that can rattle any poor connection loose.
Big Deee!....You are my low buck master!!!....First I came across your video on the $12 Blaupunkt head unit....I was too late to get one from Amazon, but Walmart fixed me up....Now you are just in time again with this beauty....I just ordered one!!!.....I'm going to use it in an old Yamaha sub that washed up on my shores recently sans it's amp plate. Haters may be too good for this, but I think it is amazing for $17 and change....Lunch at a burger joint will set you back that much these days!!!
I think your reviews make us pay more for budget gems than original price
That's why you need to follow him and buy before price goes up
There is a use case for an amp like this. It sounds surprisingly good for the cost, and only needs about 100-150W to run. So if you built a small mini-cabinet for this and ran it off a laptop power supply, it could be used with some decent bookshelf speakers in something like a dorm room. Would be a REALLY cheap setup for a student, easy to put together, and sounds reasonably good for what you put into it.
Could definitely be used to drive a little 6.5" or 8" for a compact trunk subwoofer too
But, you’d still want some sort of head unit feeding it. At that point you aren’t much better off than just using the head unit to power the system.
Especially for a home/bookshelf type system there’s loads of options for a more all in 1 head unit that has outputs for 2 main speakers and a sub.
@@NBSV1you could use it for mid bass my first thought was cars that have the cut out in the back dash for speakers that wasn't for that model, head unit for the doors and this for a mid woofer or efficient sub
@@thatdude8247 There's so many reasonable aftermarket head units available though. If the factory one doesn't have outputs for rear speakers then you'd be patching things in to try and run this amp anyway. At that point you might as well go aftermarket and get something that has actual 4 channel output and usually will have the outputs for a separate sub channel as well.
Ultimately I think this is one of those weird budget things where you'll end up spending more trying to use a cheap amp because of all the extras it needs. Don't forget that for this you have to get things like a power wire and signal wires to the amp. At that point it isn't particularly worth the effort for what you get.
I had a similar model except it had single pair 5200/1943 transistor. I used it with 14 volts and it's power supply section diodes released magic smoke after 15 minutes of use
For $17, it’s great for a project.
I just purchased this amp for my home made boom box. I have the cheap dual $25 head head unit . 2 CT sounds 4x6. And a 5” subwoofer I got out of home theatre system . It’s a 4ohm sub. Excited to see how it handles it lol
And the mystery of S Bass vs Bass remains. I can hardly contril my curiousoty. 😅
I'm not sure if you are interested, but there's a mini-amp board that caught me eye. The xy-s350h claims 220w per channel for the highs and 385w for the lows. I bought one, but haven't tried it yet. I don't have a Dyno, but, a least I am interested in seeing it get a thorough thrashing.
Send it to him to get tested.... Might take awhile thou
The plugs on the front are JST type 4 pin
Most Pioneer head units have the option to bridge the rear two channels for around 70 watts of power to a 2 Ohm load.
I've driven 4x18" subs this way.
You telling me you played 18" sub off a head unit
@@BLAxWOLF-i fun fact: Car stereo contestants used to be able to run just a head unit, to power their audio systems.....Harmon Kardon had manufactured the first high current head unit people used for this.
The 4x18" subs I used on the Pioneer head unit are Lanzer dual 4ohm units.........Ebay had them for $99.00 a pair shipped to me. So I bought 2 pairs..........I believe you should be able to find some Lanzar 15" for the same price now.
In a 25,000 square foot building. The 4x18" would rattle everything in the building.
It was not all units it was just one model and alpine did one unit aswell. Early 90’s units had to run a direct feed to battery aswell
@@Dont-come-at-me-24 Could have sworn all HK head units are high amp units.....not sure if I keept any information on their products......I keept all the Rockfod, and Zapco binders they give you, when you to school at the Factory's.
This reminds me of bazooka tube amps. That brings me to a video idea. If you could test a bazooka tube in stock form, then take the amp and sub and test it in different mdf enclosures and see how much difference the tube actually makes.
I see you have something connected to the input rca's but I do not see what you are connecting to for an output.
I just rebuilt a huge fusion brand amp thats black and green and takes 4 25 amp fuses and had to replace all the 50n06 in that amp those chips on the output and the power supply fets should made about 100 watts pretty easy at 2 ohm.
my sister bought a legacy la799 on amazon and she argues with me about the watts. it says 1100 watt amp but i do not think it would do it, i would love to see a video on that amp. awesome video today tho.
Its not as bad. You used to strugle to get 10w rms for that amount of money. I can see it as a cheap upgrade for a small caravan, just to enhance the bass at low volume. Something you would use once or twice in a year.
Thanks Big D! I've been searching years for something to amplify my car, and you pointed me in the right direction. 😂
A volume knob? Uh oh 😂 Time to take over Contril. I’m impressed this amp plays clearly enough. Fun video, I suppose for the money if you’re in a pinch it’ll work.
I have a bazooka tube with the onboard amp that's toast. I might try this since the bazooka tubes subwoofer is 2 ohm.
Why not? Bazooka tubes will bump off anything.
Man, I bought a set of Rockville W15K9D4 subs for $300, I bought a smaller dual 15" sealed sub box, and while it won't fit in the trunk of my 2013 BMW 128i, it'll fit behind the front seats if I put my rear seats down. The only amp that I have anymore is a 1750 watt Sundown SAI-1750D. I have the subs running at two ohms and they seriously slam, but that could be because they're right behind my head. My two Sundown SA12-D2 subs sound great too, but I put 6x12" Aeroports in each side of the box.
These inexpensive little amps are great if you want to add a center channel to your car set up, they are generally less watts than the rest of the system. If they have speaker level inputs, you can install them behind the head unit in a factory premium system to drive the factory amplifier hotter and get a little more punch and watts out of it. I'm doing this with my Nissan Bose system and 2 of the tiny Taramps, and it almost doubles the volume output and still sounds pretty clean at all but the last couple numbers of the volume setting.. Put some new speakers in it and it sounds like a whole new system..
Best tests great format and description.. Thanks, keep up the great work..!
This would be good for a ice chest set up which is what we used to to back in the day before the bluetooth speakers so this would have been good back in like 2000-2010
I have two of those sarvard audio HiQ 6.5 in my GF's Scion TC hatchback in a ported enclosure powered by a Rockford Fosgate Prime R1200-1D @2ohm...... It pounds pretty hard, so much so that ppl think it's a pair of 10's or a single high output 12"😊😊
I have a suggestion. why don't you incorporate an oscilloscope to you testing to see how clean amps out output signals are.
His amp dyno measures distortion. You can't hear less than 3% distortion anyways so don't worry about it.
The fact that it actually worked is a victory for 17 bucks. But honestly, this would be perfectly fine for a cheapo bass bass box.
I had somard's in the mid or late 80's 2*12 in a custum dox with plexi in the front and port in rear
Just remember how much an old Rockford Punch 45 amp cost back in the 1980's. This would have been an insane value back then. Lol Great video as usual Big D.
Awesome video! I wonder how something low powered like this would sound on a large super efficient subwoofer... Like a 15" with an RMS power handling of 50 watts or so.
I’m looking to put something like this in my golf bag and run it off the battery from the golf cart. Not exactly what I’m looking for but pretty close and for the price I might try anyways.
you finally reviewed it thank god
I couldn't make sense of the Savard website. Prices? How do I order?
I want your opinion. I'm looking for one of these home amps with the highest wattage. with optical input, sub out and like a 4 channel setup and perhaps a mid channel. I've looked
Hi sir I am from India and I have been waiting your video since 1 year. Can I use down for sound jp8 v 1.5 amp for my home and what current and voltage it requires for home purpose
S bass is sub bass, bass is mid bass, full is full this amp works good in my house when I had to replace the built in amp on my powered 6 inch sub, for the price it is what it is
I would use this for a full range mono portable speaker box with a battery. Project amplifier
Where are the speaker outputs on that thing? I don't see where they're supposed to connect.
Looks like a red and black wire coming out the back side?
They are hard wired and about 20ga
@@bedlamite42 The problem is that the wire goes straight down and most of the time it is seen tucked inside the amp's guts, so it's never made clear how that is supposed to be a hardwired speaker output with an open end and not just another wire connecting different parts of the board.
Love these vids keep them coming
I like that it's Class AB! Less efficiency but should sound better than a comparable Class D..
This would make a great little amp to run a couple of super tweeters...
Would this be good in a single cab truck with a 10in subwoofer
You know I was thinking about a much more expensive chip amp setup for a pair of 6.5 speakers I have setup to run as subs... but I think this would be plenty. Wish I could remember what I put in there but I remember looking at silver flute and the Dayton ND140 but these worked in a smaller enclosure.
What does the idle power consumption look like?
You ever checkout amps for motorcycles/Harley's?
The most important part of this amp is the Contril switch, of course.
@5:00 sounds like every Honda Civic I ever sat next to at a light in any city.
Hard to make car amps more powerful and cheaper due to large amps/current from a 12 volt power source. This space going to be exciting once cars move to 48 volt power.
And wait for EV's to go to 800V architecture! 😃
Car amplifiers have voltage boosters in them to get higher rail voltage. If they didn't they'd never get the Watt output they do. He showed the booster in this amp in this video. It was the MOSFETS. The smaller transistors inside the amp.
@@1pcfred thanks for the info. that booster would have cost around $5 than without. Ive seen tiny mono amps boards that much more powerful and cheaper, albeit, they use at least 50V and not for car audio
@@zodiacfml Watts = Volts times Amps so in order to get any kind of power at a reasonable current just increase the voltage. The technique is used all over the place. Especially now that we have cheap high performance switching transistors. A couple of those oscillating and pulsing an inductor and you have a boost converter.
Use it as an ammo box speaker Amp @ 4 ohms with a motorcycle battery and Rca to aux... Prolly 90 db off the phone 📱 jack... $60 Beach ⛱ speaker 🔊 If lucky 🤷 If you catch what I am throwing 🎉 Big D u crazy bumpn the Savard Hi-Q
Hey Big D my old pioneer super tuner III said it was good for 50x4 can you test a couple head units just for fun?
Please suggest best amp for home purpose minimum 200 to 400 watt
Hey love your videos bro, can you please do a Dyno test on the Roughneck 2000.1 Hardbass monoblock ?
This will be perfect for my lunchbox sub
Just buy one for each speaker and get bump’n! In the 90s 70x2 for $17 would have been sold all day long. We would have bought them by the dozen!
I run my whole home theater with car amplifiers, regular home audio amps weren't getting the job done. I run 4 15's in my home theater @ 3000 watts each.
that got a helluva lot closer then i expected!!!
Easy to make your own Active sub or replace a broken one.
I have four of these strapped together powering my tweeters
You contril the poder using the volume pot but does s.bass even use .L.P.F ?
It’s crazy to think how little power you need for a satisfying amount of Bass
For $18 thats a win for sure.
I have a ozv-3200.1d oz audio amp wondering if you know anything about them and if so what do you think about em I can't find anything about them
Can you please PLEASE PLEASE test the DD M8000 amps or can u please test all of the m Amps by DD
Can available in Ethiopiya?
I wonder if it would survive a power tool battery as power. The tpa3116 amps work amazing on a Ryobi pack but they are built for higher inputs.. this might survive?
im loving the tpa3116 amps. & Im building something up with 2 power tool batteries hooked up to a dual chip tpa3255. about 100 to 150 watts a side, seems to sound great
1:00 CONTRIL.
Exactly what i'm missing in my life.
The fact it turns on is impressive to me, lol.
this looks exactly like the amp that came with my rockville subwoofer which is great cause it needs replacing.
Hi You should do a review of the taramps stereo
Can you tell me what power source I could use at home to run a car stereo and amplifier?
A cheap 240 to 12v converter, $10-40
where was the half ohm dynamic?
Where is the speaker outputs on the amp?
How many amps does this tiny amp draw
Keywords to remember it’s a tube amplifier so it probably works best in a bass cannon subsystem
PLEASE DO THE HIFONICS ZEUS 1200 watt
I’m still confused on where you put the sub wires in
where are the speaker output connections?
Big D: Hov can we be mad for $17?
Me: Writes an Umberto Eco novel.
I wonder if you'd hear anything with that hooked up in the car.
Hey can you test Timpano audio 1500 watt amp
Just a question because I didn’t see it. Did you have the volume at max?
No it was around 60% and it is a gain control even though it says volume. Turning it higher doesn't give you more output, just clips sooner
This will do for my computer speaker subwoofer that i want in my car
At this price, it's probably an overstock of another product that was poweres by this amp. And they decided to make a faceplate and sell it as a standalone.
Something I never understand watching subwoofer sound demo's all we hear is a fluttery distorted sound. Is that because the low freq cannot be transmitted accurately over YT and playing on a phone speaker? ☮️🇦🇺
7:48 What this table mean ??
1:37 can you explain the difference?
Why no 8 gauge remote?
I want to see somebody install about 20 of those Savard 8s and 20 of those amps just to see what happens.
Had the savard moving a little bit
