a question for all Lou fans, and one that no-one has managed to answer for me...yet! In the first five minutes of the docu Rock N Roll Heart (just after the excerpt of Work/Drella), there is a segment where Delmore, with some very VU sounding music in the background . It`s beautiful. It`s also not credited at the end. Nor is it on any album or bootleg i`ve ever heard...so what is it? PLEASE someone...x
My wife, daughter, and I had lunch at a restaurant today and the waitress had a rather large tattoo of LOU REED's FACE on her arm, Larry! She looked to be in her 20s. I was amazed that a young hip gal would be such an obvious fan of Lou Reed in 2019. Anyway, yes this is a great box set of Lou's albums on RCA/Arista. The Sire Years box set is also great, even better IMO (I really love the "New York" album and the ones that followed it). Thanks for the video. (BTW, I don't know if anyone has ever commented on this before, but as good as your videos were before you met Mollie, they are even BETTER, and you definitely have more of a happy glow, since you met her. Congrats on being so lucky to have met and fallen in love with her, Larry.)
I've sadly never heard of him until this video. But now I have a major interest in him and while I can't afford this box set sadly maybe if you ever do a contest I might win the originals.
Great unboxing video Larry... looking forward to your review on the cds.....I only have transformer on vinyl and love it... maybe my other half will treat me to the box set? ... thanks ... alan
Awesome video I love Lou reed the albums that are my favorite would be the velvet underground and nico and transformer I also like songs like Stephanie says, candy says, pale blue eyes and sweet Jane
nice set...you should put some music posters, stickers, etc..on the wall over your left shoulder. Would look pretty cool in my opinion. just a thought.
Throughly enjoyed the Lou Reed Box Set unboxing. Cool set. I wished Legacy/Sony had been more generous and used protective inner sleeves for each of the CD's to prevent scratches/scuffs each time you take them out of the cardboard sleeves. They could afford to for the money for that set ! I love the classic 'Transformer' album like most fans and I think that's his best. 'Walk on the Wild Side' is timeless and my fave Lou Reed song. The haunting 'The Gun' from 'The Blue Mask' album is a sublime hidden gem and, reminds me of his Velvet Underground days. The song 'Coney Island Baby' is wonderful. 'I Love You Suzanne' from 'New Sensations' gets criticized for being obviously commercial but, I like that it's a catchy Pop song.
That was fun to watch.. I have old vinyl copies of all of those albums, I used to be really into Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground. Like you, "Coney Island Baby" was the record that got me started.. The "Lou Reed" album is actually one of my favorites - that record kind of represents the side of him that I prefer. It's more humane, and less emphasis on sleazy decadence, easier for me personally to relate to..I like "Legendary Hearts" - stuff more like that. But all of it is good.."Rock n' Roll Heart" is fun to listen to once in a while, not very deep, but catchy songs.. Nice video, Larry..
That box set looks fantastic! I am a fan of the Velvet Underground and have all the albums but never collected Lou Reed solo stuff. Maybe I will now. I know Transformer is suppose to be great.
I like Velvet Underground a lot and I think that was Lou Reed's best work. His solo work was ok, I just like Velvet Underground better. Sunday Morning is one of my all time favorites songs.
It's tempting, I only bought 6 of these albums, downloaded the rest and put them to CDR. I bought all his more recent ones, the Sire albums. It's too bad there are no bonus tracks though, I was able to round up several of those mostly from soundtracks. 'My Love Is Chemical' is my favorite.
Hey Larry. Hope you’re doing well. I saw on here that you mentioned once you listened to all the albums that you’d give it a complete review. Are you still thinking of doing that? No pressure. I was just curious bc I’d be very interested in seeing what your overall impression is of each of these albums and the collection as a whole. I’ve only heard Transformer but I’m interested in hearing what you think of the others. Again no pressure, just thought I’d ask. Have a good day
Nice unboxing, Larry :) Speaking as someone who has only listened to Transformer, would you say this is a good box set to get for someone who is looking to get into Lou Reed properly?
I saw that a couple days ago in a record store. Wanted to buy it so bad but it was to expensive and was gonna by Magical Mystery Tour so maybe some other day.
Never a fan of Reed, or the relative of his I knew that held a knife to my throat one night just because I said hello. There's a vid by another famous youtuber that makes custom guitar gear who told a story about him when he died about him trying to steal this persons custom gear. Hard for me to separate that from the music but hey man, it's rock 'n' roll baby! :)
Larry you really spend a lot of cash to not have a turntable. dunno if you got walk mart up there or just Amazon....but get yourself a Crowley 5 in 1 its a great unit it doesn't blast!its a record tape player cd radio and aux input system. its good apartment living room volume I got mine for 99$ at wall mart. they get bad reviews but I have no problems with mine. my pantera Hendrix megadeth aqualung n chuck berry sound great.by the way did u hear chucks final album?(dunno if your into him or...)or even like a target, they have those suitcase like turntables that fold up for like 69 or 79. look into man plaza. I want u to have a turntable. I want you to listen to sgt pepper dark side of the moon n all the other vinylseseses vinyl albums as u call it though one vinyl or album is one vinyl or album so no need to call them vinyl albums but I like that you do that so plz continue to do so. just found ya on RUclips you finally inspired me to start getting my own videos going about music n guitar drums dogs vinyls and tapes.
Great Video, always so relaxing to watch. I love Lou Reed's albums. Berlin (my favorite), New York, Transformer, Street Hassle etc. I also really recommend the albums he made in the Sire years (1989 - 2003): New York, Songs for Drella and Magic and Loss, Ecstasy. Really good. Thank you for the video! The Sire Years: Complete Albums Box (10CD) Lou Reed. Link : a.co/ekdb3Y2
I don't think 'Lou Reed Live' was released without Lou's approval or involvement. In any event, it was a far better live album than 'Take No Prisoners', and I'd much rather have it!
Thx! I never knew that! Too bad, because it's almost as good a live album as R&R Animal, from the same shows at the Academy Of Music. It was one of the first albums of Lou's I bought, so in my mind it's always been part of his history.
Larry,I never got in to Lou Reed, the only song I knew by him was Walk On The Wild Side and I wasn't very impressed with it,I also didn't like the transvestite gay vibe of him or the song,to me he just seemed to depressing, dark and decadent and I didn't like his vocals much either, maybe his other stuff was better I don't know but I never really gave him much of a listen. Bob.

Not VU for sure. Maybe something by John Cale?

Thank you. :)
Nice. I was at many of the Take No Prisoners “ shows at the Bottom Line- I am well recorded in the crowd-my claim to fame ...lol
"Vicious!! You hit me with a flower!"
I've sadly never heard of him until this video. But now I have a major interest in him and while I can't afford this box set sadly maybe if you ever do a contest I might win the originals.
Had to watch this video 40 times. 39 of those times I was only focused on your cat.
Informative & entertaining - great combination! :)

Cool box and nice unboxing, I might pick it up later I'm not so sure yet.
REALLY looking forward to those Lou Reed album reviews!!
Thanks for the unboxing, very informative as this has been on my wish list for a while and I haven't seen this anywhere else so far.
I love this box. Lou's S/T debut album is going to sound like a new album to you.
Rock stars don't really die you know, they just get repackaged. This would appear to be all the Lou Reed you need.

Love Lou Reed and love your cats too.
Nice unboxing Larry! Hope you are having an awesome summer!! 😘

I hope you enjoy your box set . And thank you for sharing it with me.
Luckily Live In Italy and Lou Reed Live are easy to come by. The latter can be had on Amazon for $5, repackaged for the ‘extended versions’ series.
absolutely love lou reed, great video!!
I like Velvet Underground a lot and I think that was Lou Reed's best work. His solo work was ok, I just like Velvet Underground better. Sunday Morning is one of my all time favorites songs.

Berlin is an excellent album, I also enjoy his work with VU (especially White Light/White Heat). I haven't checked out anything else by him though.

Thank you. Yes, I did own some of his later albums and especially love New York and Magic and Loss...might buy the other box set at some point.
I don't think 'Lou Reed Live' was released without Lou's approval or involvement. In any event, it was a far better live album than 'Take No Prisoners', and I'd much rather have it!
It says in the book that he did not approve Lou Reed Live or Live In Italy...just the company putting it out.
