- If you are looking to visit Houston, Texas this virtual tour will show you around the downtown and midtown areas. Around downtown Houston is a park called Buffalo Bayou that is a great place to exercise and be active. Most of downtown Houston is a related to the powerful oil industry that dominates much of the Houston economy. From my opinion Houston is a livable city but not much of a tourist city.

I lived in Houston for most of my life, and while it may not seem like tourist city, it has tons to do! The Museum District is great. Hermann Park and Memorial Park are amazing too! Downtown Houston may not seem very active, but most buildings downtown are connected by a tunnel system with all sorts of shops and eateries. This is to avoid the long, hot, humid summers!

Houston is one of the most economically powerful cities in America.
Its number 7 according to GDP.
1. NYC, Newark, Jersey City
2. LA/Long Beach/ Anaheim
3. Chicago/Naperville/Elgin
4. Dallas/Ft Worth/Arlington
5. Washington DC/Arlington/Alexandria
6. San Fran, Oakland, Hayward
Large Cities have become "Supercities" as we have increased in population and no longer qualify as single entities on their own. That idea is antiquated.

It’s amazing how multicultural every city in America is. You look at a city like Houston and compare it to NY or Phoenix and the culture is so unique.

@@Shawk95 be prepared for the summer heat and the traffic. That's what I'd say. Among large cities, Houston has one of the highest number of art museums concentrated in one small district. It still holds the top place for largest medical center in the world. Every time I go to the medical center, I feel like I'm in another downtown. It really is another downtown. Houston is also usually ranked within the top 3 in ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity. There are areas like "little Indian," two "Chinatowns" and the southwest international district. Overall, there are about 140+ different languages spoken here and a ton of restaurants with food from any country you can think of. Despite that, it really isn't a tourist city.

You should have visit the medical center and the Galleria they are like another downtown
Exactly he only showed dt not egg everything.
Downtown is so quiet because there is an extensive tunnel system underneath all those buildings. Why work or walk around in all that humidity when you can park, eat, shop, go to the dentist, whatever, in air-conditioned comfort? Traveling from building to building is comfortable and easy underground. That's why downtown is so eerily quiet - the people are just under your feet! There are tons of museums and arts/entertainment institutions which rival NYC either in or around downtown, as well. Oh, and don't forget NASA, the Galleria area, etc. Buffalo Bayou really is a bayou - that's what they call slow-moving shallow rivers in East Texas and Louisiana. The Allen brothers founded the city at Buffalo Bayou approximately where downtown sits today. If you follow Buffalo Bayou southeast out of downtown it becomes the Houston Ship Channel which leads to the Port of Houston - one of the largest in the world - and also where most of the petrochemical plants are located. The Houston Ship Channel dumps out into Galveston Bay and on into the Gulf of Mexico. Galveston's years as a major American port ended with the Great Hurricane of 1900; afterward, the ports were moved inland (the Port of Houston).
Michael Herring No, there really isn’t much happening downtown. Get real.
Yeah, he missed a lot! LOL
Thanks for that information, never knew that, might have to go and visit those tunnels.
That's a lie. Its noisy as hell and there's homeless ppl everywhere. Its also very dangerous at night.

You are so right. Houston is very livable but not a tourist place. We have such a amazing life here and we live great. Fulfilling all we want to do, eat great, interact with several cultures, and never ending entertainment. A beach that is good enough but for tourist. It just isn't a place. It is how I feel about new york. A great place to visit for a few days as a tourist but absolutely awful to live in. I lived there on upper west side manhatton and hated it yet I lived in a amazing town home. I just don't find much quality of life

Houston is boring and ugly, most touring musicians avoid it, it’s hot and stinky and all the cool venues and restaurants gave died out. if you care about that nonsense, the texans, astros and rockets all suck and you’ll find yourself in terrible parts of town to see them.

Wonderful Houston 👌😍
I'm born and raised in Houston and this video couldn't have been more accurate. You hit all the major places and your description is spot on, Houston has sport teams and the mall but outside of that it's a bland city. Great family oriented city but boring if you're young and single. Actually came to your channel because I'm in my mid 20's now and looking to move by a beach in Flordia
Do you mind me asking what camera you use? Because I want one.

How is Houston right now? Can i visit rn from NY? Are things closed? Also, are there beaches near Houston? Is it a good place to get a tan and have fun??
Everything is opened 100% no mask beach is less than an hour away and there’s good nightlife and food
god i wanna go here
why?
Same
I'm suprieced that is a quiet downtown!
is there a video for best downtown in US?
Its not. It's very loud and full of homeless ppl who constantly litter. And very dangerous at night. Its quiet at like 3 am when everyone is scrard to be outside. I worked downtown and hated it. The homeless ppl is what really ruins the experience. Some are very rude and deficate on the walls and side walks so much they we would have to pressure wash most of the streets every week.
love my home town
i live in houston and i luvvit
You lead me to really understand one big difference between tourist cities and residential cities. Ain't it funny how in all tourist cities like NY there are mass amount of homeless? That's because they don't care about the residents having to look at them. The tourist only see them once a year. I saw not one obviously homeless dude in this video. Residential cities are definitely my thing.
Why do people say Houston is ugly; it looks pretty damn beautiful to me. Is the downtown pretty safe to walk around?
It's safe, just don't do it during the summer, too hot and too humid
@@FireboltPrime We went there and got there very early in the morning. Then my son wanted us to come right back and I was so tired I wanted to come right back here also. There are a million things in this area for a tourist! It's unfortunate you walked a few blocks downtown and missed so much. And if you go south through Galveston, you end up in the Gulf of Mexico. Galveston has not been a major shiping port since the Great Storm of 1900...but Houston is a world-class shipping port. You'd do well to become at least a little familiar with your city before giving a "tour!" Nice camera job, though.
I am moving to Houston
God willing🙏🏻💪🏻, I would like to meet US🇺🇸, I had the opportunity to meet UK🇬🇧 and its cities are very advanced, clean and modern. I think that in US is the same, everything is advanced, clean and modern. Greetings from Panama🖐🏻🇵🇦.
The city looks rally beautiful but very few people on the streets considering it is the 4th largest city in the USA! But think I would appreciate Houston as a tourist because I like real cities and just not tourist traps, for example the skyscrapers and the parks would be really nice to see in real life!
American cities are generally gargantuan and car centric with Euclidean zoning sprawl with low densities. This really makes everything unwalkable so it makes sense as to why you don’t see a lot of people walking.
@@blackhole9961 Yes, hope that will change in the future because it is not good for the environment. It is different in some cities however, for example New York and Chicago have good public transport and many people out on the streets which is nice. I still think Houston looks like a nice city with great architecture though.
@@worldtravelimagesnet it very likely won’t as Americans are just naturally more individualistic in nature and don’t desire that kind of high density life style, also what’s done is done we can’t just bulldoze everything to the ground and restart from scratch.
Americans will generally always choose the suburbs or R1 density detached homes over a small studio apartment for the same price. Most people really don’t won’t to live in hell holes like NYC and Chicago.
This has generally changed our society, as with such low densities and everything so spread out there’s no other choice but the car as public transit becomes unfeasible to serve the suburbs or even “urban areas”(even though they are really comparable to the suburbs which surrounds them because of such low densities.
Because it's very big !!!!! Everything is large.
