You really need to explore the underground tunnels. Downtown Houston has 7 miles of underground tunnels and people always wonder "where are all the people" when they go to downtown.
Yup, you're absolutely correct. I've been in one of those downtown Houston about 3 years ago. Kinda cool with all the stores and shops and restaurants. I loved it.
Since I'm a Houstonian, to answer those that wonder why there are so few people on the streets, there are basically two reasons-one is that it's probably a Saturday or Sunday, and the other is that there is an extensive underground tunnel system that is air conditioned with plenty of shops and restaurants that connect different parts of downtown, so many people are walking down there during the week. I was stupid enough to move to this dirty European big city to live with my wife and the contrast is astounding. Here nothing gets painted, cleaned, grafitti is everywhere and nobody cares. Houston continues to beautify, renovate and make things more liveable, clean and esthetic. Downtown Houston even looks a lot better than it did when we were there last. God Bless Houston and the USA. I can't wait to go back to Houston, stay there and never look back
Saturday and Sunday is when you should see people out the most. This city was poorly zoned and developed from 4 decades ago. It is literally dead no activated streets or corners on the backside of buildings and brick walls where there should be storefronts
I've just come back from Fort Worth, Texas. I had a 3h long walk there around 15-18 o'clock on a working day and saw in total only 6 people walking around, and there is no extensive underground system there. So I guess it's rather because of your crazy car-culture and getting absolutely everywhere by car, and as a consequence - there is nothing interesting down there for a pedestrian. I loved the experience though! And I'm also curious what European city you're talking about, because not at all every European city is dirty (rather there are some dirty exceptions), and my European experience is the opposite of yours.
@@denislinnik Totally agree with you . As a city it is quite clean and nice but without people outside . Parks are mostly empty . Passive city life and almost no social activity
