That would work if the film wasn't so fixated on Scar having a huge crush on Sarabi, which, apart from him asking her to be his queen, doesn't really go anywhere.
Michael Strong Yeah like they could’ve made the crush not so “crushy” and when he gets denied Zira offers herself or something and Zira was pretty much the outcast of the lionesses so no one really cared that she was going to be with Scar and eventually Scar and Zira do indeed fall in love have Nuka they see Nuka is weak and some sort of shenanigans lead to finding Kovu and Vitani
Well, the main reason it made that much money is due to nostalgia from the original film and that more people were introduced to it since the original film’s release.
Jordan Willner tell me about it! i was pissed when i heard about the remake. this is already phenomenal the way it is & disney shouldve left it alone. a 3d rerelease was awesome but not a stupid remake. a 3d rerelease was all it needed. my brother & i r twins & we were born in 1994. everybody stood up & clapped at the end when we saw it in 3d
The most disappointing part was mufasas death! They screwed it up SO much! Mufasa in the original begged scar to help him saying "brother, please help me". In the new one mufasa said it so angrily that I didn't care if he died. They also removed mufasa saying "brother". That one word showed that he still loved Scar and that he truly cared for him and treated him like his brother. They just took that word away from here and James earl Jones saying "help me" wasn't as upsetting and stomach punching as the original. It just came across as disrespectful. He said it with such demand that it was as if mufasa was giving orders. How can Disney mess up their most iconic death scene in the history of their studio that badly! And Simba screaming "NOOOO" looked so bad!!!! There was no shock or sadness in his face. Simba reacting to his fathers death shouldve be heartwarming and upsetting like the original movie but instead it just came off as something that you can't feel any emotional connection to! Many other things aswell like the circle of life. The song in the new one I thought was great but I'm talking about the way pride rock was revealed! In the original, it was shown dramatically over a hill and it fitted so well. In the new one, it was just revealed by the camera tilting to the right. It didnt feel anywhere near as dramatic as the original version did. Another thing was zazu bowing to mufasa. In the original he smiled and crouched down and spread his wings with such Gracefulness. In the new one, it just looked as if zazu was spreading his wings about to fly, Rodan in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters bowed down to Godzilla in a better way than zazu did. Another stupid thing is the fact that In the original, when rafiki saw mufasa, they hugged. That showed they just have an amazing bond and connection. In the new one, rafiki just touched mufasas head (as if that's supposed to be a beautiful scene) another thing is that Simba sneezed for no reason. After rafiki put the red colour on his head, he just sneezed for no reason. In the original simba sneezed because of the sand going into his nose! I can go on and on and on about how many things just make no scense like, mufasa and sarabi smiling at eachother after simbas sneeze being removed and so on but it is so long! I honestly loved the trailers to be honest and i now dont really like this movie. I just hope and pray Mulan will be good. The trailer looked great but only time will tell. I can't wait for your next few versus videos. The one I'm looking forward to is the mowgli vs jungle book VS video! Because the animals in mowgli: level of the jungle emoted so well and I can't believe how well andy serkis treated them. Can't wait to see what's next! P.S: I am so terrible sorry that u won't get money from this video because it looked like you put so much time and effort into this video and i am so upset that you will not get money from this. I liked the video so it will help getting your channel noticed! I just hope things get better for you!
I remember watching a behind the scenes special for The Lion King on ABC a few months ago right before it's release and during an interview with Jon Favreau, when he mentions James Earl Jones, he clearly stated that he did not give him any advice or direction for his performance as Mufasa and just let him do what he wanted with it. That's why all the voice actors in the remake gave such terrible performances. They, literally, were NOT given any direction! That's just inexcusable for someone as experienced a filmmaker as Jon Favreau.
A kid next to me in my showing SNICKERED when Mufasa died. I mean that says everything right there. In the original it's DRAWN OUT on PURPOSE and EVERY SINGLE SHOT from the extreme close up of Mufasa's eyes contracting in fear, to the close up of Scar's paws landing on Mufasa's, Scar leaning in close and sneering "long live the king." you KNOW Mufasa is about to die and you KNOW Scar is ENJOYING every MINUTE of this murder he's about to commit. In the remake? Silent theater. Save for a little just a LIIITTLE snicker from a kid next to me. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmjkahsjkdadksahsa.
Ace Coordinator Mary dude I laughed too at that scene but it was only because my favorite character was Scar. But seriously Disney is really rich and they could have added better effects with the amount of money they had smh
Thank you for calling out on why the remake Scar saying he couldn't get to the gorge even though Zazu was there was so stupid. You could make the same argument for the original counterpart, but it's possible that hit from Scar caused him to forget. Heck, the remake had Scar telling Zazu to get the lionesses to help. So why didn't Zazu tell his side of the story??
Why didn’t you include Rafiki in the side characters? In my opinion the remake one is an empty shell compared to the original. In the original he was funny charismatic kinda weird but had some real wisdom in him. I didn’t see any of that in the remake
In the live-action version of the scene when Zazu comes and tells Mufasa that there are “hyenas in the pridelands,” there’s an added line where Zazu tells him that Simba’s mom was “leading the charge.” Then Simba goes back to Pride Rock, where he meets his mom and every other lioness. Just one added line creates a plot hole lol
I thought the 2019 photorealistic Lion King was just okay. I did like some of the changes made, such as that extra scene that showed detail of how Simba's fur reached Rufiki (however you spell the monkey's name). And the extra scene showing Nala as she sneaks away from Pride Rock. However for the most part, the 2019 version just didn't have the same charm as the original. The worst part was how they made the hyenas too realistic, I liked them better when they were comedy gold.
I would have rathered something like the broadway show where Nala is banished because she refused to be Scar's Queen. THAT would have been a great empowerment moment rather than her little "attack" bit at the end.
I would’ve been excited too if it was Jeremy irons! I would’ve been excited if it was all the same voices. I personally would’ve even be more excited if they didn’t make this movie in the first place.
Can I just say the remake Mufasa come across as a bit of a jerk? I mean, in original he smiles at Zazu in the opening, he laughs with Zazu about turning Scar into a rug and we could see that these two have good-fun relationship. So when pouncing scene with Simba happens, that's a genuine prank. But in the remake, he doesn't smile, maybe because that's just not "real lion" thing to do I guess, and he left Zazu after confronting Scar, we don't see these two getting along well but Mufasa still sets Simba to go for it to a bird who is just doing his job. That's called harassing your co-worker.
Po Omega Sorry but I strongly disagree, the original did the final fight with Simba and Scar perfectly with Scar being a actual challenge for Simba and the slow motion made it all the more epic. The remakes fight was a huge anticlimax and rushed and the remake version of Scar was so easily defeated!
Except the original doesn't show or tell much about Nala and growing up in the Pridelands, or when she left to look for help or what was driving her. The remake gives us more of Nala and how she came to be in the jungle where Simba grew up.
I hate how you don't understand JAMES EARL JONES IS OLDER NOW, HE ISN'T AS YOUNG AS HE WAS, HIS VOICE IS WEAKER AND HE CAN'T DO A GREAT PERFORMANCE THAN HE DID...but you are right anyway, and the rest of the video was awesome
Which is why bringing just James Earl Jones back was a weird decision. A lot of the characters in the original had great, memorable performances (Irons still gives me shivers as Scar). Having Jones was pure fan-service and not in the (limited) interest of the film
The critcism is less on James performance itself, but rather Disney dragging him in after all these years instead of opting for someone that could recreate Mufasa's unique mixture of fatherly love and kingly authority.
I swear, I had to watch the 1994 The Lion King over and over so that I could forget the 2019 version. But then I realized as long as it brings money, lots of money, Disney will still inevitably, pull another one like this.
Jungle Book remake I came out: Okay that was ok Beauty and the Beast I didn't watch it on cinema Aladdin I came out laughing and frustrated Lion King I came out DEPRESSING
Ramone Williams because the general public is too stupid to understand that these remakes are complete insults to the originals and Disney just wants more money for less effort.
We all know the animated movie is superior and that the remake had 0 chance of standing against it. That's why people were more interested in the IT Chapter Two vs the 1990 miniseries video lol. Still great stuff.
The original still made a bit more, if you were to adjust it for inflation. 1994 Original: $968,483,777 ($1,640,977,694 today) 2019 Remake: $1,629,492,304
Higher populations. The original came out 25 years ago and there were fewer people. If everyone saw the remake just once in theatres it would still make money because more people are going in and expecting a good movie before they are served slop
I remember when I saw the CGI remake in theaters, my cousin actually cried during the death of mufasa. And I just sat there like wow, you actually cried at one of the laziest and most unimpressive film recreations of all time.
Amazing video. I feel so rewarded for waiting for a video over 3 weeks. Do more like these. How is your it and spiderman video? When will they release? I rly liked lion king remake too though but its my opinion
Jesus Christ !!!!!! I couldn't have said it any better... Every single word you said is true... This is an unwanted, unneeded and utterly disrespectful lousy lifeless lull of a movie... Indeed this atrocity is a lifeless, soulless and an uninspiring cash-grab... Even the animators who worked in the original film have expressed their dissatisfaction with this awful shit... Disney doesn't care but only about money... They brought themselves low..How shameful...
@@MrAspiringactor At least, open your eyes and "look" at the facts before you say things... There wasn't one but thirteen people who worked on the original movie were contacted and only three agreed to give their opinion... And out of that three, one expressed disappointment, another supportive and another one was somewhere in the middle... As for the other ten, they said they wouldn't even bother to even see that atrocity of a remake... They hate it so much that they won't even see it... And that's called expressing dissatisfaction...
@@jasonseraph7814 And when even the creators of the animated film hate the remake, then that's definitely saying something, isn't it? It's the same as when Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson hated the 2004 film for disrespecting the original show. Only that film bombed hard, and this one made over $1 billion and a half.
Now you my friend, are a true fan of the original and remember it well. You listed off most of the many reasons that I absolutely hated the remake and found it insulting. And like you, I completely forgot everything about it a few days later. Like that desert running scene with that stupid out of place song. This will be in my top 10 worst of the year and I've seen nearly every big budget film of 2019 so far. The original is one of my top 10 all time favorites. I watched it before and after this abomination. It flew by every time and was just as magical as it's always been. The animation is still stunningly gorgeous. I almost walked out of the remake after Can You Feel The Love Tonight. I saw all I needed to see and just wanted it to end.
Fun fact: I recently got done with a school project on Tragic Heroes and I used Simba from the original Lion King. Edit: The original Lion King is personally my favorite Disney film, so can you understand why this remake pisses me off more than the others?
It's always been a personal favourite of mine too. I've seen the Broadway show 4 times and I still get emotional. This remake, though, just made me lose any and all hope I had for Disney. The only film I despise more than this remake is the live-action version of the "The Last Airbender"- I don't think I can ever hate a film more than that one
The voice actors of simba, nala, mufasa, scar, rafiki, zazu, timon and pumba in "The Lion Guard" were all very good both in speaking and singing. If Disney can cast them for a tv show then why they can't for a big budget live action film of the lion King?
Hey Eric I just got done watching your lion king vs video I've got the original but haven't seen the remake but anyways I love watching your vs videos their awesome man thanks for doing this
Eric you are absolutely right when you referred to Jon Favreau’s projects For every Iron Man There’s Iron Man 2 And for every Jungle Book There’s a Lion King What is he gonna do next
Both movies are spectacular pieces of film-making. The remake takes scenes from the original and expands on some plot holes. Of course they cut out the scene of Rafiki whacking Simba over the head with his staff because in the real world a mandrill won't have a stick like that, much less use one to smack a giant cat! Or hordes of hyenas! Also, Zazu was in the gorge in the original movie too! Remember? Zazu and Mufasa were on patrol when Scar took Simba to the gorge. Zazu noticed the dust rising as the stampede started, then Scar scrambled up and breathlessly tells them that there's a stampede in the gorge and Simba is down there with it, then Scar and Mufasa rush down to overlook what's happening as Zazu flies down into the gorge and locates Simba clinging desperately to a dead tree, then Zazu flies up to point Simba out to Mufasa as Mufasa and Scar scramble to a halt on a ledge. As Mufasa hurls himself into the chaos, Zazu panics to Scar, and then Scar knocked him out, so Zazu didn't see Mufasa get murdered. In the remake, Scar tells Zazu he will help Mufasa and Simba, and sends Zazu to get the pride, so Zazu still doesn't see Scar murder Mufasa. Matthew Broderick's Simba conveyed more fury than Donald Glover's, especially after he finds out the truth about the stampede. Matthew's soft "So they can hear you" line in the original is amazing. Simba is absolutely seething with anger. He is beyond furious. I felt Donald Glover's voice to be robotic at times. All in all, both movies are amazing pieces of filmmaking. Even as a child I felt "Oh shit! Simba's mad and he could be extremely dangerous" in that moment. ALSO.... I know, I'm rambling... They wanted black actors to voice all the lions, and Jeremy Irons is not black. Oh and Be Prepared remake is also a disappointment. Have I covered it all? I think I've covered it all. I am the biggest Lion King fan in the world. I swear! And I'm Canadian!
I think this was my favorite point in this review. Original: the lionesses immediately rush into battle when the tyrannical, hyena loving usurper confesses to murdering the king and the rightful heir is getting swarmed. Remake: they can’t do any of that until Beyoncé tells them to.
YES!! That was a big annoyance with all the times I watched the remake. Bugged the hell out of me watching it. And it makes no sense they wait for Nala to tell them to attack- she's a nobody in the Pride hierarchy at this point
@@petarmilich8684 Defs. Disney can write good, strong females. But they can't half-ass it like they did with new Nala (Nala was already a good character that could have been given a bit more fleshing out like she gets in the Broadway production). Not to mention the little time she does get is dull, boring and raises a few questions (like why she was already heading back to Pride Rock after trying to get help from one lion)
My opinion is that watching the lion king 2019 is like watching Walking With Monsters except that walking with monster is actually interesting to watch
"What Disney should be doing with this kind of technology is continuing the technological accomplishments that we got with characters such as Gollum, King Kong, and Ceasar from the Planet of the Apes remakes." Or just get Andy Serkis because his facial performance was vital for ALL those examples lol But seriously, I think the technical team would have a bigger flex if they gave their characters believable facial expressions.
Amazing job Eric! The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie and my close 2nd is Beauty and the Beast. It is really sad that Disney messed up both live action movies. I pretty much agree with everything you said. I can't wait for you Spider Man and It vs. videos because I like both of the new movies.
Honestly, after seeing what they did with Lion King, I don't have hope that they could pull off a good live action Brother Bear. Treasure Planet, Atlantis and Pinocchio could work if done right
94 will always be THE Lion King to me since it’s the one I grew up with. But I do think it’s really amazing what they did with 19. If only they could have gotten Jeremy Irons to come back and voice Scar again - just listen to the line “long live the king.” New one wasn’t nearly as eerie or sinister. It’s awesome that James Earl Jones was able to come back and voice Mufasa again though.

The Lion King (2019) is the highest grossing animated movie of all time.
Scar: I’m surrounded by idiots. (And I’m referring to Disney).
True... 😂😂😂😂😂
Well, the main reason it made that much money is due to nostalgia from the original film and that more people were introduced to it since the original film’s release.
@@eugeneketaminekrebs3403 So true...

The Ultimate Gamer2016 SO TRUE!!!
I haven’t even seen the “Live Action” remake and I still feel like I’ve seen it...
Oh wait, I have! THE ORIGINAL BETTER FILM FROM 1994!!!!
Ikr!
Pretty much
I Did Watch New Live Action
I wasn't born to see the release of the 1994 classic, but I watched it in 2014 in elementary school and yet again in 2017
The most disappointing part was mufasas death!

@@astra.sparda I hate how many medium shots were in that sequence lol. Just...AHHHHH lol
Ace Coordinator Mary yeah dude, like really, wtf Disney?!
I snickered too when Mufasa screamed out and fall out the cliff in slow-motion.
Disney just doesn't care anymore. Where's the _heart?_
Heart and Money? That's an oxymoron
Cuz of money haha
Thank you for calling out on why the remake Scar saying he couldn't get to the gorge even though Zazu was there was so stupid. You could make the same argument for the original counterpart, but it's possible that hit from Scar caused him to forget. Heck, the remake had Scar telling Zazu to get the lionesses to help. So why didn't Zazu tell his side of the story??
"Live-action". The whole thing is CG. But I really do feel you on the remakes. It's getting absolutely ridiculous. They just don't care anymore.
There's no way the remake was going to win. It had no chance.
The stampede scene in the 1994 version was heart pounding and suspenseful and you felt it deep inside. The 2019 version is devoid of such emotion
I am confident in saying “great video as always” before even watching this because i know it’s gonna be high quality and interesting as always!
Can you feel the love tonight

I guess they were going for "the peace the evening brings"
If they made it in the night? Do we even see the lights? None.
Why didn’t you include Rafiki in the side characters? In my opinion the remake one is an empty shell compared to the original. In the original he was funny charismatic kinda weird but had some real wisdom in him. I didn’t see any of that in the remake
1994 lion king all the way. No contest
The best way to sum up the remake “ taking scenes that didn’t need to be changed and destroying them for money”
In the live-action version of the scene when Zazu comes and tells Mufasa that there are “hyenas in the pridelands,” there’s an added line where Zazu tells him that Simba’s mom was “leading the charge.”
Then Simba goes back to Pride Rock, where he meets his mom and every other lioness. Just one added line creates a plot hole lol

Waaaait there was a 2 and 1 1/2
Good thing, I've watched The Lion King 2 when I was younger.
Let’s be honest, even a used tissue is far better, entertaining and expressive than the lion king 2019
@@katelynwilliamson4365 she wouldn’t be banished though they would’ve just killed her.

Yes, I feel sorry for Zazu. This character deserves better
Also, remake Sarabi is just a stereotypical housekeeper-strict mom. In the original she still was authoritative but also friendly to her son.
The original 1994 Lion King does literally everything better than the unnecessary 2019 Remake!
Harry Thomas Pictures IDK u were here
Except the original doesn't show or tell much about Nala and growing up in the Pridelands, or when she left to look for help or what was driving her. The remake gives us more of Nala and how she came to be in the jungle where Simba grew up.
Can you make a video about Cinderella 2015 vs Cinderella 1950?

Question: How did the remake more money than the original?!?!?
I have a distinct feeling that the average moviegoer can’t tell a good movie from a bad one.
The original still made a bit more, if you were to adjust it for inflation.
1994 Original: $968,483,777 ($1,640,977,694 today)
2019 Remake: $1,629,492,304

I'm guessing Lady and the Tramp and Dumbo will be your next videos?
They are not so famous, simbas voice in lion guard is so different. Pumbaa had the same actor as the lion king 1994 film.

Katelyn Williamson also the line of “Are you with me, lions?” That line was just unnecessary and added for length. And also for SJW points.
