Bill Clinton in Derry for Good Friday Agreement 25 events

- Former US President Bill Clinton arrived in Londonderry/Derry to attend an event in honour of John Hume and David Trimble, who helped pioneer the Belfast Agreement 25 years ago.
Mr. Clinton entered the Guildhall in the city centre to give a speech, before exiting into the Guidhall Square as he did as President in 1995 during The Troubles.
During his stay in Northern Ireland he also attended Good Friday/Belfast Agreement 25th anniversary events at Queens University as part of President Biden's US delegation to the agreement.
The former US President arrived in an armoured police Range Rover with a small team of security from both the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the US Secret Service.

It's always great to see the Secret Service on the alert and to see how they do things compared to UK police. I noticed how they hold the door of the Range Rover just as if it was the Presidential state car (aka 'the beast').

Why didn't Clinton fly over with Biden and both of them stay for this and not waste even more fuel and resources?
Out siders should read the GFA and the Windsor deal before opening their mouths. First main part of the GFA is our laws and rules must have cross party support by vote in our government. No where in the EUs demands in the Windsor deal are we given that basic right. The right we all must demand regardless of our past. If the EU admit they have no right to place demands over us and let our government decide our laws etc under the GFA rules then the DUP would be back as part of our government. Put the blame where it is. Out siders breaking the GFA.
This could all have been so different if NO 10 had told the EU to go and do a deal with the Government of Northern Ireland in stead of a behind our backs deal we dont want. Hope Clinton and co can read.
Quite surprised that there’s no typical US secret service vehicles- even the main car is a Range Rover. And only one armored car in the convoy. Let alone there’s no road closed off. Interesting!

There's nothing surprising for Clinton's convoy to be quite underwhelming compared to Biden's.

Even IRA Joe was safer here in Northern Ireland than he would be back in the USA tells you these USA leaders should be back home helping their own peoples. As for US secret services they would still have been there alone with British Secret services just not in your face the american way. Interesting to see Clintons etc never meet Orange leaders and there by exclude/ turn their backs on a large section of Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland communities.

John Hume who was the first to involve himself in negotiating with the IRA and their representatives had already established a political network in the USA who were interested in helping bring peace. The US is home to an Irish diaspora many times the size of Ireland's population. The IRA, who drew much support from amongst the Irish diaspora in America, absolutely did not trust the British Government and vice versa. A trusted outsider was required in the negotiations and Bill Clinton (who also has Irish ancestry) was sufficiently interested to offer to help. Without his involvement and that of his appointed envoy who chaired the process Senator George Mitchell, peace would never have been achieved. The US government actually became a guarantor of the process in the eventual agreement which is why they remain interested.
It's always great to see Clinton in Ireland he is always welcome.
