Been through that just not seventeen years...For me it was 9.5 yrs and I became a full-time single parent of a 5 yr old boy, 3 yr old girl, and 2 yr old boy. The two older children are now married and have children of their own. They are amazing parents. The youngest is doing well as a single young man finding his way into a new career. I am blessed. I just lost my daughter to a fentanyl overdose on the 12th of May (2024) and struggling to find a reason for it all. I listen to this song which I've done for years now to reach a few minutes of memory and beauty that she was on earth. 'Til I see her again it's what I have to hold onto. Alison's voice and the harmonies of this incredible band give me some solace for a few minutes.

I am a big fan of Alison and have met her at a bluegrass festival. Listen to “ Eva Cassidy” for she has a beautiful voice as well. Unfortunately she passed away before her music became known worldwide.

This song saved me during a very dark period in my life. My boss harrassed me daily, and I was literally suicidal. I would sometimes listen to this song all day at work. I don't have any tattoos, but if I ever got one, it would say, "There is a reason...." It would remind me why I need to keep going.

I accepted the Lord into my heart when I was 31. I just turned 49 and it's been the best life ever. When we have difficult times in our lives, it's only trials that the Lord wants' us to face. He tests our faith and he only wants us to love Him even more. Daily things in our lives can keep us apart, try and remember Him as our day goes on. Be much as devoted as you can. He stretched out His arms for all of us on the cross and is waiting for us to walk into his arms there. May god bless all!

Thank you Ron. We lost our oldest son in the wee morning hours of May 27, 2019, he was 39, taken in a one car accidnt and he left behind a Stay at Home Widowed Mother and four Children. This song makes me think of him, as we struggle to find The Reason For It All.

This song has meant so much to me. I used to listen to it over and over again when we lived in East Tennessee. I'd stand in front of the kitchen window doing dishes, sort of zoning out, and sing along with this song. I'd ask God to tell me the reason. I feel like He has answered me. I am much more at peace now. Thank you.

I understand the reason for omission, but, as a logophile and philologist, I find omitting a vowel puzzling, when there are no vowels in Hebrew, so if the goal is not to completely spell His name, I question whether that goal has been achieved. I'm sure it is a forced act, as omitting "G" or "D" would result in some readers not recognizing the word. Shalom, my friend.

When honestly directed to Christ Jesus, Son of YHWH, that is a prayer that will be answered (Mark 9:23-29). Jesus said that if we ask Him to move a mountain and did not doubt that He would, He would move it. Of course, one cannot make such a ridiculous request without thinking something like, "Ain't 'gonna happen," so His pledge is incorruptible. In sensible matters of actual need, He will not fail when we approach Him humbly with the attitude you have expressed with the quote. And, speaking from experience, the unexpected way His answer many times is delivered reinforces our faith and makes it easier for us to believe.
I'm not religious but every time I hear this song it gives me a chance to reflect and ask forgiveness. Thanks Alison for keeping it real.

As a 58-year Christian, I can see many of the reasons, which helps me through new trials. My favorite story came from a friend, who one morning "lost" his car keys. After running to the car in pouring rain, not seeing them there, and running back to the house, he "found" them in his coat pocket. On the way to work, he approached an intersection that was normally bumper-to-bumper traffic, his brakes failed, and he crossed on red with not a car in sight. Had he found the keys on "his time"...
He is the reason for it all....my Father, my God, my Jesus, my Rock. I give my heart so easily to the Ruler of this World, the one who loves me most of all.
I see this was 5 years ago now, but... I think the lyrics "ruler of this world" refer to Satan; if you look at the context (and correct words): "When what I wrap my heart around is gone

When the one who loves me most will give me all." Our hearts are prone to wander, and as others have commented/prayed "Lord, help our unbelief." :)

I just want to say that I am not Christian and I am happily and proudly of zero religion but I just love this Woman and all of her songs are very inspiring to me; and if there is a GOD I would hope HE would listen to HER...doesn't seem so these days and I know for sure if there was a Christ he is NOT proud right now. I have turned now to her music for inspiration and life needed energy in order to move on right now and continue living. I love her. There are crazy mean people who just want to fight on all sides.

(Prep & Univ. Went through 4 years of Latin in 2; the homeroom teachers had to improvise for Jr & Sr years - we translated Ovid & the nut who thought he could fly until the sun ruined his plans. Our peers called us the "Brain Room" behind our backs. I also had 2 religious in my Mom's family. So I guess you can guess what my background is.)
When it comes from the heart the way AK sings it EVERY time, religion goes completely out the window, no matter what the words may refer to. Beauty is beauty, and the message in this song is just as beautiful as the one who is singing it. This is truly an amaaaaazing song.
