It's cool that when people moaned about the cutting board instead of being childish and just saying "don't like it don't do it" you took their criticism on board and made a more practical piece of kit!

I was thinking of perforated steel or aluminium plate 1mm thick cut into scales. The perforations will act as a perfect place to stitch the scales together, snag any blade instead of letting it slide off and save a lot of weight.

Hey WeaponCollector, I just have to put this info out here as I don't know what else to do with it. Here are two common materials for the people in the UK and Canada who are trying to DIY their own stab vests:
    1. Expanded aluminum mesh, the ones with a diamond pattern. It's used as backing for the screens of screen doors. Fairly cheap and quite difficult to stab through.
    2. Corner plate scale armor. Corner plates are those cheap little steel triangles used to hold slotted angle bar shelves together. They already have holes, are cheap and are easy to string together.
Covid has incubated a lot of crazies and the number of unprovoked attacks on strangers was unprecedented last year.
    3. Large plastic cutting boards. Not the thick ones, I'm talking about the cheap-ass, made-in-China ones that are prone to warping. They just work.

In my experience, when you get stab, regardless how good you are, you almost get stab by the first hit before you know how to react so it need at least to resist only the first stab or maybe the second one before you know how to react so yes, it can prove itself useful, until you control the knife or run away.

my girlfriend and our baby live in a dangerous area where stabbing is common, till I get enough money to make them move to a safer area , I have no other choice than getting a stab armor that protect chest , abdomen and the back , and protective sleeves too , because we usually use our arms to protect ourselves , and they get lacerated
