Thank you! Mom didn't bake her homemade southern style cornbread enough but when she did, oh boy! Her meal for our family was a big bowl of pinto beans and a hunk of cornbread. Perfect for a growing boy. I always had seconds on the cornbread. Memories. Love and miss you mommy!
I just made this a couple of days ago to use with Camirras other video "Southern Cornbread Dressing". Went out and bought me a cast iron skillet and everything!! It turned out so good and glad I did it a day before so it could dry out for the dressing. Thanks girlie!!! Subscribed!! :)
You are fast becoming one of my favorite RUclips cooks! Thank you so much for your lively presentations!!!!! On the subject of moist cornbread, I actually put in some creamed corn. That makes my cornbread very moist and creamy. So I think I'm going to put creamed corn with sour cream to see how it comes out. Actually, cornbread is one of the few recipes that I can remember that mama taught me how to make. I actually remember every ingredient. That's my go-to for most cornbread occasions. But I'm going to try your recipe with creamed corn just to see how it turns out.
Every Southern cook remembers his/her Mother’s/Grandmother’s dish of whatever as the best. It’s part of growing up with a good cook. I have no doubt that this lady is the same. I have long believed that MY MOM was the best cook in Texas, of course! However, I love to read other folks’s tributes to the best cooks in their families, and pick up hints that remind me of what I’ve forgotten from my mother’s kitchen. Thank you, all you wonderful cooks!
I'm from Namibia and my best friend who is Namibian too but grew up in the US asked me to make this. I hope I can achieve this because wow lol this looks amazing
I followed your recipe for the purpose of using it for my cornbread dressing, but after smelling it while it was baking... it didn't make it! I didn't use the bacon grease, but I did use butter flavored shortening... AND PLENTY OF BUTTER. All I can say is "thank you" for sharing this recipe. I'll be looking forward to many more of your recipes. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
I test my eggs one at a time into a bowl too. I never crack them into the mixture. Definitely will be using this for Thanksgiving. I have tried so many of your recipes and they’ve been hits in my household.
I just put this into the oven. I'm making a couple days in advance. I will be using your dressing recipe with this. Thank you for sharing! Happy Thanksgiving!
I always use sour cream in my cornbread. I also use bacon grease instead of butter. I melt it in the skillet & pour it in the batter before it gets hot. Thanks. 💙
I will melt my bacon grease in the skillet and add it to the mix, then I get the skillet screaming hot and pour in the mix, it taste so good with that grease in it and the crust is great
Beef bacon is a good substitute for people that don’t eat pork. It actually surprises me how many people don’t know beef bacon exists, they just skip straight to that processed turkey bacon lol
Beef bacon is delicious and more expensive! Thanks Camirra for this wonderful recipe, I've tasted Cornbread dressing from a lady from Mississippi, the best I've ever had, she used Mayonnaise and cream of chicken soup...can't wait to try this.
Recipe sounds good. Cornbread definitely looks delicious. I love some good cornbread. How much baking powder is in ur recipe? Oh, will surely used the sour cream...TYFS. Be blessed. 🙏😊
Thanks for the video. I'm glad you checked your eggs instead of just adding them to the mix. Cornbread like that probably won't make it to the cornbread dressing at my house 😂😂😂. Thanks
Hi! I just made a recipe for cheddar cornbread and I was so disappointed! It used flour, cornmeal MIX , 🌟it was not cornmeal) but it wasn’t the instant mix either. Then just a tbs of sugar. A bit of salt but no baking powder. Then it had me add a cup of cheddar to the mix. Couldn’t taste the cheese. I’ll not add cheese again. I’ll add more sugar and sour cream and some bacon grease and lard. My recipe called for just unsalted melted butter. I am so disappointed in it! It was for a church potluck😞. I’ll try yours next time. Is it written out? Thank you. Love, carrie❤
you could probaby sue beef tallow to grease the skillet. should taste fine i would think. might be best suited for a cornbread paired with a chilli though with the mild beefy flavor
@CamirrasKitchen I make up stuff? Within reason. The talow? I thought would be a little healthier-ish. I stay away from pork the best I can. Single Dad wave.
@@delmontegreenbeans if you can get hold of ghee, that will work instead of bacon grease and just tastes buttery (but won't burn like regular butter - it's the milk solids in butter that burn and ghee has these removed).

Your cornbread dressing looks perfect. Did you use a 12" skillet to bake the cornbread?
Yo, you always make me smile! Ima make this today and pair it with your southern Okra. Nothing k like something warm for Sunday!
You did that! Excellent!

@@CamirrasKitchen oh wow. I’m from New York, we pretty much have it in most supermarkets. Great recipe either way 😅
Yes ma'am I'm going to try it
Sour cream always makes baked goods taste amazing! Ghee or clarified butter will work instead of bacon grease and won't burn like regular butter.
I use this recipe every time Camirra , thanks🤗
I'm trying it today!!!

Yes ma'am, I dine with the swine!!! Can't wait to make this along with great northern beans and ham hocks in the beans, for added flavah!!!😂

I’m going to try your cornbread recipe. I’ll let you know how it turns out.❤
What size cast iron skillet pan do you use??

Looks like mine, still use the old fashioned pearl mills cornmeal!
I have cornbread with soup beans. SO good!
You had me at bacon grease. I season almost everything with it.
Yes! I always keep my bacon grease! ❤

Camirra ...yum.... have you tried the sweet potato cornbread???

Okay so I never thought of putting sour cream in my cornbread. But I do like a little tang.....lol.
So my Cornbread came out absolutely beautiful!!! I have tried the crusty edge and Delicious (bacon fat🤌) ...dressing coming up, will report back!
I'm sure it's good but I will stick to the buttermilk cornbread mix. Its quicker.

Not gon' lie, the sour cream in cornbread is scary but my interest is piqued like a mug! Thanks Sis.
sour cream in cornbread is on the othe best things you could every do!
Nothing against you to each their own.. but I don't put no where near that amount. Maybe like 2 t-s
