The actor has had such undeserved hate - he's played an amazing role so well. This character arch during S2 has been superb.

I think we have to understand Criston Cole as a character. Rhaenyra gave him the chance to be a kings guard she was also the one to put him into a situation that ruined his sense of honor. He was her confidant and her protector and to find that the one person u gave what u hold most dear in the world didn’t hold the same standard as u believe is absolutely soul crushing. Not to mention in breaking his vow he also doomed himself to be tortured and doomed to death.
When he kills Joffrey he has mental breakdown and prepares to end it all and then he is saved by someone who gave him a new purpose. His new job is to be Alicent sworn protector and shield for her kids.
A lot of people seem to brush off that Criston should just get over rhaenyra and stop being mad its been 10 years. However for those 10 years while being jealous and envious of Rhaenyra freedom Alicent and Criston see that Rhaenyra has created a problem that is endangering the lives of Alicent kids n by having bastards which further puts Criston against rhaenyra.
Rhaenyra by having obvious bastards creates a succession crisis within the kingdom and weakens her own claim to the throne while strengthening the claim of aegon and alicent other sons at the same time. When the King sees this obvious treason he does nothing but continues to back his daughter no matter if she was in the wrong.
Due to Rhaenyra and the King neglect the hatred of Rhaenyra and the king grows for alicent and criston. When the eye for the eye scene happens in drift mart it further creates the harsh reality that no matter what happens King V will always put Rhaenyra and her kids first before Alicent or her kids. In doing so Alicent kids look upon King V in a different light and in turn Alicent kids look to their mother and in a way Criston as their only source of protection.
It is quite clear that Criston has become a father figure to the Green Children and he develop feeling with Alicent throughout the timeline. Any insult or threat to Alicent or her kids he will strike down in a heartbeat because he is no longer protecting a queen and her family, he is now protecting his family.
Criston as a character is a hypocrite, judgmental, and has massive anger issues but he is falsely labeled in modern terms as a evil sexist incel man The term Incel does not apply to criston if anything personal fan favorite Jorah is an incel. Criston is labeled as a sexist by the fandom because he is against the female protagonist who greatly wrong him and continues to be directly or indirectly a danger to Criston family. Criston compared to a lot of characters in the show is more of a grey character than an evil one.
Criston as a character is quite complex and fascinating and to me is overly hated within the community when in all reality he has one of the better character arks in house of the dragon.

I agree, he also was a simple soldier who fought in the Dornish Marches, the son of a simple peasant. And through his valor in battle earn the knight title. A simple soldier, a Knight, a Royal Guard, the Commander of the Guards...
He has earned everything he has the hard way, starting from nothing to being the Hand of the King, leading the king's armies in battle, in a world where dragons exists and can destroy thousand of men in a couple minutes... Cole may not be the most honorable knight the Seven Realms ever saw, but he showed valor and courage more than once.
Even when he killed that man in the wedding I can see why he did it (dont get me wrong, what he has done was terrible and digraceful). In his mind that vile act was nothing more than a refusal to continue being part of that twisted and unholy relationship. The refusal to continue to stain his white cape. Of course that wont be his only stain... But that add to the complexity of the character.
I don't want to talk about his relationship with Alicent and his children because I think you've already done a great job. I'm happy to see someone like you can see inside a character like Criston Cole without stopping at the surface like most people tend to do.
I'll stop by just saying that Cole, as flawed as he is, in that violent and corrupt world he lives in, is still a better knight and a better man than most men and women around him.

Compared to most characters in the show Cole is flawed individual but to me he is one of the better characters of house of the dragon and to be honest he is a better person than most..
Most People are idiots. When people r told a story through a protagonist eyes they automatically assume their protagonist r the good guys in the situation n that they did nothing wrong.
I also look at to what changes the directors and writers changed form the original source material and y did they made those decisions.

He was one of the few characters that improved in season 2, a lot were ruined.
Fabien Frankel is terrific and deserves more praise, really looking forward to his post HOTD career (he probably won't live long in season 3). But I see a bright future ahead of Fabien.

Amazing edit!Fabien Frankel brings a humanity/ realness to Criston Cole that likely fuels the hatred, as everyone knows someone like Cole, perhaps even seeing parts of him in themselves. Despite the limitations of the material he's been given in S1a little bit better in S2, Fabien has performed exceptionally.
He's my favorite character.

Ser Criston Cole was one of my favorite characters back in Season One, in Season Two he's one of the only characters the show didn't completely ruin. I have always found him fascinating, a man who genuinely believes in chivalry and honor, but can't stay true to his beliefs for the life of him. He's such a tragic character.

Criston Cole is, by rights, the rescue dog of the Dance of the Dragons. No more and no less. Like, Alicent saved him, and he lived to repay that. Exactly what a rescue dog does for his owner.
Mixed bag of a season overall (not to mention that terrible finale), but his arc was really good, love how humbled he was by seeing dragons in action, even if said dragon was on his side. Great tribute.

I really like that this edit really highlighted the reason for Cole's hatred for Rhaenyra. It was not only hurt for her rejection, but also a coping mechanism for having risked EVERYTHING that he had and was on what turned out to be just a whim for her. He had almost 20 years to get over it though, instead he projected his guilt onto others and in trying to "redeem" himself he turned into the biggest hippocryte of the show

Not only hurt for her rejection? Except He doesn't hate midnyra because of rejection. Criston rightfully hates midnyra because midnyra wanted to continue using him for sex after already FOREVER ruining the thing he put his entire self worth into.
Midnyra wanted to continue despite knowing the dangers a kingsguard could face & it made criston realize that she never loved him & was just using him to please herself & playing with his life.

Hey what are your thoughts on the Cargyll twins in HOTD?
I read that they were a microcosm of the conflict of a show. A family torn apart, with no sides winning.
Could you do an obi wan kenobi one? I have been watching for a while and I am stunned by the masterful artworks you create, with the music and quotes you just instil chills down my back and so I would like one of obi wan kenobi or maybe perhaps a specific set of clone troopers? Like Cody or Rex (the named characters)?

Wonderful character. Criston, unlike most characters on the show, is nuanced and humanly flawed. Which makes himmore realistic.
Will defend this character to the end. He's the best and the worst of the Kingsguard, not just a spiteful, vindictive incel simp like the Gen Z crowd has desperately tried to scream and cry that he is.

hey! How do you get your fonts for the thumbnails? Can you recommend a site? I see they also have a small glow and texture on them, not just plain writing
Dafont is a good website to look for fonts. The glow is a white drop shadow, and the texture comes from choosing an overlay setting for the text which blends it with the background image.

I may not like this Character But as always SWFT you make an excellent edit for the Character as always.
The fact that he was able to just beat a man to death at a royal wedding with all the royals present and get away with it scot free was the dumbest aspect of season 1. They needed the character dead and didn't know how so they made it look like he got away "in the confusion", which was ridiculous because everyone was circled around them so clearly you just point at the guys in the circle and then the Lord Commander can arrest/behead him there and then.
At the time he was Rhaenyra's protector so he could've made up any lie like Joffrey spoke badly of the princess so he was protecting her honor and killed him.
In reality Joffrey was threatening him knowing his sin that's why Criston lashed out.
They literally said in Season 2 that he was about to get the Headsman's Axe for it if not for the Queen of the Seven kingdoms bailing him out.
@@J1283-s1k: I think you’re misinterpreting what Cole said. He wasn’t talking about killing Joffrey.
He meant that Alicent saved his life the first time by keeping quiet when he confessed to her that he and Rhaenyra slept together. That’s what he would have gotten “the headsman’s axe” for.
Cole may have gotten in some trouble for dispatching Joffrey in such a public way and ruining the wedding feast. But, all he - or, more likely, Alicent - had to do was say that Joffrey said or did something that was threatening and that’s why he killed him. I’m sure more than one person saw Joffrey whispering in Cole’s ear before he lashed out.
Laenor probably would have wanted retribution but his parents would have put the kibosh on that because they didn’t want the real nature of their son’s relationship with Joffrey to become public knowledge.

@@SWFT_edits Thanks, still weird bc he wasn't the only man who coronated someone and fought for in his name, if he has kids with Alicent and they were Kings after that would make more sense. Ironically this title fits much better for Jaime Lanister, so called king slayer.

Criston Cole is easily one of the most unlikable characters in HOTD (for good reason), but his arc since Rook’s Rest has probably turned a few heads. His dialogue scene with Gwayne Hightower has rapidly become one of my favourite this season.

I don’t think he’s unlikable. He’s done some unlikable things but there’s no one in the cast who hasn’t. Daemon has done far worse. Cole has never, either by direction or omission, hired someone to kill a small child. Cole never terrorized his young nephew with his enormous dragon until, suddenly, that dragon decided she wasn’t playing anymore and ate the boy.
The thing is some of y'all hate him because you think he can't handle rejection & think he wants revenge on rhaenyra & think that's the reason why he's with alicent... Which is extremely wrong💯💯
