    I still have my i5 760 on that exact same p55 motherboard I just pulled it out of my garage to make a pc for my kid. Glad to know with a little over clocking and my old 970 she’ll be able to play things for a while. Until I upgrade my cpu and she can have my i7 4770k once I grab a second hand 7th gen i7

      @@rafaelavila2913 I had it at 4.1-4.2 for a while actually. I dialed it back a bit to 4.0. I had to slowly raise the voltage for it to handle the overclock. Please don't do this without looking at tutorials though and raise in really small increments and test. Also, increasing voltage can decrease the lifespan of the CPU. Make sure you use software to monitor temps. If I remember correctly, you want to be less than 70C (ideally).

    Thanx for an excellent vid mate! I've had to resort to an i5 760 and wanted to know about it's overclocking capacity. This vid has made me feel a lot more confident about both overclocking the 760 and it's abilities to run modern games. Don't listen to people who say your vids are too long, it's the info contained that counts and I reckon your info here was all good and you seemed to almost rush through it. Also, it's a vid eh? they can skip bits if they're so short on time or attention span.

    I use my i5 760 with a GTX 460 (1GB). Since I upgraded to 16GB of 1866 RAM, the automatic power-up thingy is now working at 3.54 GB on my Asus board. Standard (but NOT crap-stock fan). Runs cool (and quiet!) as a cucumber and works brill for all the games I play. Not the most modern, which I have no need to try until I play through my collection.

    I built a PC in 2011 (as in a friend with experience building gaming PC's built it while I watched) with an Intel I5-760. The PC has only been used for light gaming by my wife for WoW. Otherwise, it's just been used for web browsing. The PC still runs great! I never overclocked it or anything like that. I was hoping to upgrade the CPU on my MSI H55-GD65 Motherboard. After some preliminary research (and the help of this video), I can see I'll be needing a rig to play any games at near 2021 minimum requirements.
    I was considering upgrading just the GPU also from a GTX570 to something more modern. I can see that my options for that are limited as the CPU is going to be a bottleneck.

      While I definitely agree that anything from a GTX 750 ti to a 1060 6gb (or AMD equivalent like a RX 460 to 580) would be better for showing more practical applications of the CPU, I also understand using a 1080 to completely eliminate any GPU bottlenecking and purely show off the CPU performance. It would've been nice to see a comparison to a third, more modern CPU, but that would also require more work and testing. Regardless, great video! Just stopped by since I picked one of these up.

If you sell your CPU, mainboard and RAM as a combo you should get $100+ pretty easy. :) As for upgrading the current crop of AMD / Intel CPU's will blow your mind. having said that the next Gen AMD chips will be a slight bump, but Intel might have issues given they are still stuck on 14nm

      @@rafaelavila2913 @Rafael Ávila I actually ended up stabilising above that at 4.1 Ghz with the clock multiplier at ×22 and the memory multiplier at ×8. ^.^
      VCore = 1.3v, IMC/ QPI/VTT = 1.2v, 1.5v on memory for 4.1 Ghz.
      VCore = try 1.2 to 1.25 v, IMC/ QPI/VTT = 1.11875v or more for 3.86 Ghz. That is with 175×22=3850 (except the clock speeds are always fractions above, so this is more like 175.5×22=3861.
      I was told once on a forum that the Lynnfield chips are specified to operate up IMC (QPI/vTT) = 1.155v; The absolute max is vcore = 1.400v and IMC = 1.21v. Thats for safe and continuous operating
      I decided 1600Mhz RAM wasn't worth lowering the CPU speed for, as I was finding it easier to hit 175+Mhz base clock without using a ×10 multiplier for the memory.
      Hyper 212+ CPU heatsink/fan
      The Asus D-E-EVO board as mentioned, one of the upper end ones (EVO vs PRO just meant an extra ethernet port...I didn't end up needing that. :(
      I thought friends and I might LAN with crossover cables instead of using a switch or playing over internet, but sadly LANs became less common from then on.)
      Keep memory voltage at 1.5V maximum if possible. I had ECO RAM, which used lower votage than typical for the time. Original I had 2×2GB of 1.35v G.Skill ECO I think it was, and then got 2×4GB G.Skill Sniper 1.2v RAM. It was possible to run it all at 1.2 I think if I went for RAM speeds closer to 1333Mhz than 1600Mhz and didn't get too aggressive with the timings but it mostly seemed more stable and just wiser to keep it at at least the 1.35v of the lower kit.
      Lower voltages on ram save basically nothing on the power bill, but in theory help to overclock the *CPU*, as opposed to worrying about overclocking the RAM a lot, because the CPU is then constantly interacting with RAM at lower RAM voltages, easing the load on the CPU.
      I messed about with a lot of RAM timings and sometimes had it stable for ages on 8-8-8-24-110-1T timings (also got away with 8-8-8-14-90-2T :P) but eventually had issues and went to a safer 9-9-9-24-114-2T. Not sure how of this you would want to know but these were some of the more impressive things I noted down. Sometimes you can reduce RAM latency by tightening timings when you can't surpass a certain frequency on RAM.

    Its still like 20-30% better than a PS4 for example.
    CS:GO runs at 160FPS, Witcher 3 max Settings between 50-80 FPS (!!!) (with a GTX 1060). I used the 760 for 9 years (!!!)
    Im gonna upgrade to a R5 3600X this month, but this is still a very capable CPU. It breaks its legs in Open World Games though. But for 20€ on ebay, this thing is a blast. Buy it if you dont have money for a decent CPU. This thing is a budget winner.

      Yep it certainly is, but you have to pay a price premium for it, even on the used market today. I miss the good old days (which thanks to AMD are now back) where you could simply buy the bottom of the range that had the core count you needed and simply overclock the absoloute snot out of it, Intel has done a great job of convincing people that its ok to sell locked CPU's and charge a premium for one thats overclockable -_-

Every thing works great but the temperature usually rises to 95 degrees constantly (without even overclocking). I am using stock cpu fan. How can i resolve this issue with the temperature .. Any suggestions ?

      The Intel Stock cooler is garbarge, even with good thermal paste you will hit 80 - 90 Degrees. You 2 choices, you can get some new paste for it or get something like a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO CPU Cooler, its about $30 AUD . I would go with the new cooler as it would also allow you to get a mild overclock if you wanted down the line. the cooler will also fit in most cases as it is more of a compact option designed for budget builds.

      For a few years I ran mine with the stock fan. It was noisy as fuck, and even on the day I installed it I had to cut down on performance due to heat. A few years back, I bought a fan for about 6€ (Alpine 11 GT rev2). This is totally quiet and does a great job of cooling, so FUCK Intel's fan (I was daft enough to believe that Intel would supply at least a semi-decent fan if it wanted people to like its CPU!!!) The "new" fan is still quiet (I blew it out at Christmas, ahem)-

      fair enough, I do usually prefer quality over frame rate, having said that I don't own a monitor that can output higher than 60 FPS. I also prefer it for bench marking even with CPU bench marking as I dont see the point in running at a lower frame rate for the sake of finding a slight bottleneck

    You don't know what you are talking about, you can't overclock a sandybridge. My 2500k runs at 4.9GHz on 1.375v and air cooling.

    • @TechFurb
      @TechFurb  5 лет назад +3

      I Know exactly what I am talking about, the sandybridge series disabled base clock overclocking which up until that point was how EVERY CPU in the Intel range was able to be overclocked, the exceptions to this rule for sandybridge were as you mentioned the i5 2500K and the i7 2600K and 2700K and they acheive this through multiplier overclocking. sadly as the K skew CPU's are the only ones that support overclocking, they command a stupidly high price on the used market :(
