I mean, really dynamic, like a very deep level of mixing perfection. It seems like a huge breakthrough, to me. All of your songs are well-written, but in this one you turned in a really emotional vocal with such strong production and playing that it has a completely different feel than your others. Also, what an original idea for a song... who of us cannot relate to being torn apart and scattered in the desert, only to "reinvent" ourselves and wreak havoc on those that did us harm? Well, perhaps metaphorically? I can visualize a really powerful video of this character, with this song. Standing ovation! Bravo!!!

You know, I always said my life would be complete if Dane was cast as the Count of Monte Cristo. This is the closest we're getting, and goddamn right it was exactly as badass as I imagined. I just wanted to make an edit to my original corny comment as of 2021 to say how technically impressive and gobsmackingly gorgeous this piece is. It remains my favorite song of all time and has been the key inspiration for a novel I'm in the process of writing. It's that kind of song that has so many layers and so much technical quality that you just never get sick of looping it. I'm personally insulted that Dane isn't famous, let alone working for Disney or in Broadway. The Return is so clean, so well-composed that my music teacher of all people was surprised it isn't for a large-scale project. The dark western atmosphere is intriguing and Dane's voice, with nigh-operatic strength, carries it with a deep and commanding presence; yet he never gets too loud. The way he actively gets softer ("sand is giving way now/to a steady, drumming sound...") paradoxically enhances the menacing, quietly unhinged presence of the character he plays, which pays off as the dynamics turn to the authoritative belting of a revenge being enacted. The characterization is gorgeous, multifaceted and expresses very human pain, even if vengeful and ultimately of a cruel dictator. And don't get me started on the lyrics, I could make a university-length essay on them. With prose incorporating imagery of heaven and hell - "perdition" itself is an orgasmic word, I'll fight you - civilization and desert... Dane's lyricism is a force to be reckoned with. Alongside the biblical references, the western vibes in the composition itself really set off the imagery in a viscerally beautiful way. Thank you, ponyphonic, for supplying us with your art, unmonetized, and horrifically underrated and unrewarded. I want to someday make an animatic for this, but I know with my skills as they are at the moment, I'll not be able to do this masterpiece justice.

I'll add my bit. I leaned back in chair, expertly crafted, as I looked out at the desert beyond the walls. The peasants busied themselves beneath my clear window. After the overthrowing of the previous ruler, his name lost to history, me and my fellow soldiers lived in luxury. My ears picked up a sound, a crowd of workers. They had stopped and looked out through the gate. It did not take me long to traverse me polish home to step out at the crowd that had grown much bigger. But, over the heads of the slackers, I saw him. The gold shone in the harsh sun, his eyes glowing with a green hate, his huge form just as imposing as it had been all those eons ago. The people moved aside, leaving a straight path from me to him. We stared at each other, my body locked with fear and his eyes focusing on his target. His chest moved, is hands gave way to claws and a dreadfully familiar sight glowed green. It was not long before the light went dark and the sun faded from my dieing sight.
After careful deliberation and listening to the song a good 50 or more times, I have come to the conclusion that this is the best song I have ever heard with a silly smooth guitar and equally brilliant vocal performance, not to mention the story behind it
