  • This poor leopard gecko was only fed every 2 weeks. As a result, he nearly starved to death. Thankfully he had a great appetite and made a complete recovery! In this video we show you the day we received him, up until the day he was adopted into a new home :)

My first reptile was a leopard gecko that my friend's little sister got but didn't want to care for. They only fed him a small number of bearded dragon pellets once a week unless he shed then they wouldn't feed him because he ate his skin. I snatched him up as an early b-day gift and loved him so much. He was a good snuggle buddy and I miss him.

I’m in a similar situation, except I just took in my own little sister’s Leo. She was leaving for college and couldn’t take him, so she gave him to me. He was extremely malnourished and dehydrated and has pretty bad MBD, also quite a bit of stuck shed. She was only feeding him freeze dried mealworms. No live insects, no calcium. She’s had him for about 2 years. I’m a vet tech but don’t really deal with reptiles much. So I’ve done a ton of research since getting this guy and have been nursing him back to health myself.

    • @anndownsouth5070
      @anndownsouth5070 Год назад +5

@Britttanyy I also think I could perhaps handel a leopard gecko as long as its food is also slow-moving and can be handled with a tweezer. I really like geckos. I've owned leopard geckoes for years. One of their defining features is their fat tail (which stores fats/ nutrients). It would take a lot of time to use the fat stores in their body. The fact that this poor thing is that this skinny is more than negligence.
I appreciate Emily seeing a silver lining and hoping that the previous family loved this animal, but to me, that's no excuse. This is cruelty. You don't love something and let it look like this. This, is knowing something is wrong and waiting until it's near too late to act.

I got him as a baby (a little less than a year old) and he's been my wonderful little buddy since then. I can't imagine letting him get to this sorry of a state. These animals fully-rely on their owners for all their proper care. They are extremely hardy animals (which is why I've seen leos this skinny yet they are still alive), but that's no reason to let them go for long periods of time without food or water. They need a regular feeding schedule like any other reptile and feeding every two weeks is not nearly enough to keep them healthy! Thank you for rescuing and nursing this guy back to health!

I just started the video and my gosh, that poor little guy! Seeing him has made my cry 😢
Edit: now I’m crying at the transformation! Ed, Emily, & team, you should all be so proud of the surrender program you’ve created, the number of animals you have (and will continue to) saved and enriched is just unbelievable. And the education you put out will help pet owners understand the needs of their animals better too!

This is why I watch your channel. You are amazing! The whole crew + you and Ed! ❤
I have never owned a reptile, but have been watching videos and reading books on how to keep and raise reptiles so that when I can own some one day, I have all the knowledge and guidance I need and will continue to keep watching and learning more even after I get the animals. I love to learn about animals, loved all animals since I was old enough to learn about them. I would go over to my grandma & grandpa's apartment in the mid 90's with my mom to help out when my gma had cancer, she lost her leg to it and eventually lost her battle with it, but whenever I would go over with my mom I would watch the Discovery channel with her and my gpa, especially Steve Irwin and Nigel Marvin, etc. I guess I would curl up on the couch next to papa (grandpa Mike, may he and my grandma rest in peace.. Miss them everyday. & My grandpa, David, whom I am named after. Also no longer with us. Both Gpa's we're heroes. Gpa Mike was a tank commander during Vietnam, and my dad's dad was a Navy Corpsman during Korea & Vietnam in a unit called the Magnificent Bastards. Such an amazing name.) Sorry! Idk why I went so off topic.
Anyways. I have learned SOO much from your videos, as well as Animal1guy and a few others. Great sources of knowledge that I very much appreciate. My son asks me about animals all the time and whenever he asks about snakes (Bull snakes and Ball Pythons mainly) I refer to your videos, I also got him into your videos, which he absolutely loves btw. (He is 10 yrs old. Very smart and sweet young man. So proud of him! ❤)
Anywho. Thank you again for everything you do! Keep up the amazing work! Your videos on how to take care of reptiles are easily some of the best out there! ❤
Much love from David & Son from Alaska!

I LOVE Leopard Geckos, I have one of my own! When I first saw 100 Gecks I REALLY wanted to take him home. But with how busy I am with school I don't think I would've been able to stop by a convention to pick him up (since I live in Idaho). I'm really happy to see him being adopt by people who will care for him! 😍❤❤

This reminds me of my hamster Alice. I got her and she was 80 grams. That is puny for an adult Syrian hamster. I got her from kijiji as the owner ran out of food so they stopped feeding her for the most part. When I got her she had only been eating dry cereal for weeks and not much of it. She’s now 150 grams and is much healthier. She gets all the seeds, blocks and snacks she wants. Thank you for saving 100 gecks

It made me so happy to see 100 Gecks have a full recovery.
You spoke about how if his kidneys were failing he would become lethargic and be not interested in eating or anything.
This actually just recently happened to my stepmom.
She was a wonderful mom, but she was on dialysis, and she slowly stopped eating, drinking, taking her meds, and slept all the time. During the last few months of this, I couldn't even talk to her cuz she couldn't talk but one word or even text anymore, and we used to text each other almost every day. It would just come out as gibberish.
She ended up passing away on April 5th of this year, and I was devastated.😢😢😢
The way you explained about what happens to geckos when their kidneys fail, sounded so much like what she went through.
Glad he found a great forever home! Love your videos!❤❤❤

I own a leopard gecko, who I've named Mocha. she's a rescue (and my first reptile. I did so many weeks worth of research, and still do more just to be safe with her..) she was left in an apartment to die. she was cold, very thin, thirsty, etc. this was in Sept of 2021 or 2022..she's doing great now! we don't have to much money to work with, so I'm hoping to get a job very soon to give her an even better life. the tank she's in now is way to small for an adult leo..but we're unable to get a bigger tank yet (I'm pretty sure it's a 10gal or a 15gal? I wanna get her a 20-40gal with a bioactive enclosure, she deserves the best♡) she's an absolute sweet heart..definitely a little brat- but a sweet heart nonetheless ♡♡
    .
    .
if anyone has any tips or pointers for me, I'd love to know about them! its always best to learn more and more about the reptile species you're taking care of, even if you do research/know so much about them already. it would be a big help to me as a newer reptile owner =)

@@d-padqueen1103 I doubt he was that skinny when they got him so what's the excuse for watching him lose weight and not investing five seconds to google how often and how much they need to be fed. Look, I get that Emily doesn't want to say anything too negative about the previous owners. In fact that's a good thing because it might deter people from surrendering their animals. But clearly there is no excuse for this.

Two leopard gecko seven-year-old, male and a female house together, they got fed a bag of crickets on payday and sometimes not even that because they would forget. The male has MBD problems, including horrible eyesight, and he looked very similar to this guy unfortunately the female did pass away but the male is 10 and completely healthy.
I would check with your vet but I’ve had excellent results with medical dog food for post surgery i’d have to find the specific brand but it brought back multiple geckos from near death from starvation
