  • We received a blue-tailed monitor with a mysteriously swollen leg. Was it dislocated? Was it broken? Just infected? After surgery we were able to discover what was wrong, and he made an amazing recovery!
Huge thanks to Dr. Gates, our amazing veterinarian, who performed a successful surgery and follow-up care for this dude! You can find Dr. Gate's clinic, Bush Lake Pet Hospital, here:

I would be so happy if the zoo animals were all rescues. (Less breeding. Not charmed by it.) Breeding is just for money, although genetics studies are interesting.) Who knows who the new owners are? (Many animals owners are ignorant, or unworthy, or both.) Emily and Ed do such a great job with rescues!!!! And so educational.

You could call him Hiccup. Most kids still know about How to Train Your Dragon. I'm glad to see he recovered, and I hope he does well in the cushy zoo life. Reptiles can heal from some pretty incredible injuries with just a little TLC and he's proof of it.

Also their injuries are on the same leg, left :)

@@clairethompson5549 honestly - it’s a really hard job. Clients are mean & most aren’t thankful. People think you’re in it for the money & most of the time you aren’t being paid a livable wage. The burnout rate is super high, most technicians leave the field within 5-7 years. The suicide rate is also very high. With all that being said - take care of yourself FIRST. If you “love animals” this isn’t the career for you. It’s heartbreaking, soul shattering & back breaking. I have permanent spinal issues that are going to take me out of the field at 33 years old.
I don’t regret going into this field - but I would definitely do things differently going back. Know your personal boundaries, say “no”, take time for yourself, don’t let people bully you. There’s a huge network of vet med staff out there to help you navigate he field, but it’s a very hard field to stay in. I wish I had more positive things to say - but people need to know how difficult this job can be.

Glad the outcome was positive. What a champ! I suggest Logan for his new name because sharp claws, fast healing and Hugh Jackman is also Australian oooh or or or Deadpool/Wade because Wolverine/Logan frenemy/rivalry, attitude and also a speed healer! Other names I saw in comments that also sounded good: Rascal, Hiccup. Glad you're keeping him!

I doubt this will be seen, but if it does, know how much I love your content!
I don't have any exotic pets, just a cat and dog right now(have had a wide variety throughout my life though) but I find this content so interesting.
If you ever get the chance to feature any more veterinary/medical side of all of your adventures please do! If people don't like it due to being 'uncomfortable' would you even maybe make a second channel for it? I love veterinary medicine, and I love seeing everything that can be showed. I also find it important to show/feature what can happen and what to keep eyes out for. Thank you so much, I love how you even had a vet on screen detailing what he was seeing and doing!! I LOVE this so much!! One of the best videos I've ever seen!! :) :)!

Name wise I first thought about toothless or hiccup from how to train your dragon because they both loose a leg and tail thing and then get prosthetics. I mean that’s not exactly the case but it seems a little fitting I think. He’s such a cute addition to your family!!🫶🏻

Sticking with the Norse mythology theme, I think Tyr would be a fitting name. Tyr lost his hand to Fenrir (I won't go into the whole story because it's long but definitely worth looking up) and while the monitor didn't lose his foot, I still think it would be commemorative of the battle he went through while healing up his leg

I think it's awesome that some of your zoo animals have really unique story's. And it's great that you rescue and rehome animals. That monitor has alot of life left in him and he's so fortunate to have you guys and he's never gonna need to worry about anything ever again. He's gonna live like a king.

He's so adorable, and Dr. Gates is an amazing vets and he did a greater job fixing up his leg and I'm so glad you was able to save the leg and i agree he will be an amazing exhibit animal with plenty of positive handling he will tame up he may not be an animal that members of the public could handle but i reckon he can be tamed enough for staff to handle and allow people to pet him maybe as an animal ambassador great work cant wait for the next video when you revamp and introduce him to zoo life
