great video, like the info on how to keep everything with the HU, im trying to put a touch screen in my buddies 2013 accord, and with this it helps so much
Did this video ever come to be? My older mother has a 2016 Accord EX with a failing head unit - don’t want to buy another flawed Accord display audio head unit. I can’t use the Metra kit on an EX newer than 2015, so the only way to retain iMid /mirror cam etc functionality would be to bury the factory head unit… Was it hard to find room for it?
@@JohnOBryan I’ve also thought of just forgetting about the mirror cam / gas mileage info etc and removing the factory HU altogether. I assume the Honda Sensing settings aren’t stored on the HU. Should just be an interface for accessing the Sensing settings - but there may be a reason Metra never tackled the 2016 EX and above….
If it's a 2013 to 2017 Sport model, you can buy the Metra 99-7804 kit. It will allow you to install an aftermarket head unit while retaining the iMid display. Unfortunately you will lose most factory features of the iMid such as gas mileage, trip and etc. If I remember correctly, it will only display the clock, backup camera, and some menu settings on the iMid. This is why most of us just buried the head unit in the dash. Not to mention the Metra kit was extremely buggy. I think they've finally worked all of the kinks out of it.
I have a Naviks interface installed which installs between the factory head unit and the iMid screen. Pressing and holding the source button on the steering wheels allows you to switch between the iMid screen and sources hooked up to the Naviks. The Naviks system will only do video. It does not support audio. I'm working on the videos now to explain how I have everything hooked up. Should be done later tonight or in the morning.
@@williamcarlson1169 Yes the Naviks was designed to work with the factory head unit. I removed it once I did the swap and later installed it again after the swap. Here's a link the unit. naviks.com/i-22957602-2013-2015-honda-accord-hdmi-video-interface.html
Hi John, I'm interested in buying a 2016 accord sport - My question is, which dash kit did you use and other parts ? I want to "possibly" add a sub and more, if it's within the cards. Please let me know. Thanks
Sounds great- Good work. Did you by chance have a lighting cap installed with this set up ? We have a similar accord 2015- I’ve used my alpine amp with Polk speakers front & rear along with the factory woofer.. surprisingly it handled the out put of the amp without the use of a cap with no issues. I always want to mount the amp where it’s easily accessible and safe from the usual luggage in the trunk- Where did you locate your amp ?
I killed the stock battery after about 1yr with the system installed. Upgraded to a a Duralast Gold Battery (51-DLG) with 500 cold cranking amps and zero issues in the past 3years so I've never added anything else to the electrical system. Mine is mounted under the passenger seat. Easy to access and runs cooler in the cabin with the a/c. :D
It's not really a kit. I purchased a special made harness and made some modifications to the dash which would allow me to bury the factory headunit into the dash. I then used a Metra 99-7804HG dash kit to install the headunit. I did not the modules that came with the Metra 99-7804HG kit.
Please do you have the link for the usb dac you used from the naviks to the head unit? I don’t know what type of dac you are referring to but a link to the one you used or something similar would be appreciated
hello, I had a question on the Focal PS165 Component Set tweeter at the top of your door, where did you get the triangle speaker holders for the tweeters? I like that and want to do that for my vehicle and any help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Very nice man. We have similar setups. The factory Sport sound system was lack luster to say the least, but it was a good starting point. Very happy with my system thus far, and it sounds like you’re in same boat. Curious to know more about your rear seat/grill mod. Are you running a custom sub box? Forward or rear facing sub? I’d imagine it’s ported?
I'll see if I can put a video together showing how I did the rear seat. I have a sealed box sitting in the rear passenger corner of the truck facing the drivers side. I do plan on having a custom box built soon.
@duy mai Not sure I know what you are experiencing. Do you notice any constancy such as you only hear it when using a certain media source (such as radio, cd, mp3 or etc)? Alternator whine (changes with the rpm)?
Yes. Basically only the power and the imid screen are hooked up to the factory headunit that's buried into the dash. Everything else gets rerouted to the Kenwood headunit via a custom harness with a steering wheel control module. This video goes into a little more detail. ruclips.net/video/ivEizBLC6l0/видео.html
Those asking about the rear seat pass thru. I just uploaded a video explaining what I did. ruclips.net/video/Ao_4GOm6TwY/видео.html
Man this sounds amazing with my headphones. I can only Imagine what it sounds like in person.
It does sound really good. I need to find a better source for recording. As you probably noticed the phone's mic kept adjusting the sound.
I had to go find this song he reminds me of Chris Stapleton great song and great sound and setup
dude ill drive to you so you can do my car like yours.. love it
Going to upgrade my accord thanks for this video!
I can see you own a set of Bowers&Wilkins. Great choice of equipment!
DUDE. DUDDDDDEEE OVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS EXACT SET UP !
Sounds awesome bro. Those speakers are the bomb!
Thanks! I'm very happy with them.
Not a county music lover....that song was pretty good kinda made me reconsider 😌
great video, like the info on how to keep everything with the HU, im trying to put a touch screen in my buddies 2013 accord, and with this it helps so much
You can buy the dash kit, wire harness, antenna adapter, and steering wheel adapter as a kit from Crutchfield
Where did you get the dash kit. Every auto shop I go to they claim they don’t make em for my 17 sport. I wanted to put a double din Indash in my car.
i have a 2016 honda accord lx i just installed a alpine stereo top screen is not working how can i make my head unit work thanks have a great day
Ok this is cool. Thanks for that song too.
No problem!
Excuse me for asking... I'm curious about the price for the upgrade. That is if you don't mind... just a ballpark figure. Thank you
I just installed his exact setup other than subs and it’s around $1600 for amp and front component set and back set And sound dampening
Impressive work man.
Thanks!
Can you do a video explaining how you did the head unit?
I'll see if I can put a video together.

Could I install this sound system in an 2016 Accord V6 Touring? It seems more complicated with the active noise cancelation feature.
Sure. The ANC is just a small box (maybe 3"x1") located between the cubby and the temperature controls. Super easy to access.
so in order too keep the top screen (imid) you have to keep factory head unit? is there a harness that doesnt require keepinf factory head unit??

Did you manage to retain the steering wheel mounted controls for the sound?

I also have a 2016 Honda Accord sport but the businesses around me are saying my cars radio cannot be replaced because it's too complex. Any tips?
I buried my head unit and kept all Factor controls and camera
Sweet! Nicely done
Thanks!
Where did you exactly run your power wire and Can you fit a o gauge wire through that cut

What size is the screen and how far did it stick out
