This album is what really got me into metal back in 2004 when I was around 12 years old, and they were my first metal concert a few years later as a teen (I feel old thinking about it). 😆 Slipknot's first three albums I hold very near and dear to me, I don't think I'd be listening to most of the heavier music that I listen to now without them. I'm glad you brought up the production because that more raw sound is something I loved and miss about the band, I'm not a big fan of their more recent output for that reason.

Love this song, so weird but so intense. I think it takes time.e to understand them, as we get older I think we understand more. What I get from the video is that life can pass you by before you know it, as the girl moves so slowly but everything around her moves so fast. And that develops a kind of frustration and anger towards life.

Side Note: "Surfacing" and "The Heretic Anthem" have a very special place in my heart, they were the first two Slipknot tracks I ever heard. I don't quite remember which came first but It was my introduction to Slipknot and the metal genre as a whole (at the age of 11-12, its been about 20 years cant remember exactly). Some of my fellow Maggots are probably thinking "damn he got thrown to the wolves with that" (TBF Vol 3 hadn't released yet, so there's that) xD.

When you were talking about the production quality it made me think about how everything sounds better on vinyl. If you've never listened to a record I recommend going out and getting yourself a record player and a couple records just to hear how it sounds. They've got a certain warm sound to them. It's kind of hard to explain, the music just hits different.

Been listening to Slipknot for about 20 years now and I have to say, Slipknot, Iowa, and Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses (their first three albums) are hands down the best. Their sound started changing when they released All Hope is Gone, in my opinion they lost a lot of their edge, probably due to the studio/label. Also Corey had to change his scream because of the amount of damage he was doing to his vocal cords. All that being said, one of their new songs, "The Dying Song (Time to Sing)" feels more like how they used to sound in the first three albums. It's nowhere near as brutally in your face as their first two (Subliminal Verses is when their music first started to "calm down" if you ask me).

The “death mask” isn’t a thing anymore lol. Pretty sure they only did it once, or a few times but not since 2004/2005

They used to do quite often during that touring cycle, but they don’t do it that often now. Very rarely will a member break out their death mask for a performance. It happens, but I don’t remember the last time it happened.

A few songs from Slipknot you’d probably like are Unsainted, Psycosocial and Nero forte. If you’d like heavier or darker give a listen to Disasterpiece, people=shit, Heretic Anthem,eyeless etc. I could go on. They have so many bangers.
