    Awesome! Planning to overclock my 8700K soon. Just wanted to ask a couple questions though. How much risk do you have to take to fry your cpu. Also, at what temperatures should you be safe in?

    • @ECPUz
      @ECPUz  7 лет назад

      Try to keep your core voltage at no more than 1.35 and you should be fine as long as you have a good cooler. Try to keep your temps below 80C if you can. Let us know how it goes.

    • @johnnyappleseed7204
      @johnnyappleseed7204 6 лет назад

      Temps are good up until 95c with no long term sacrifice. They don't start throttling down until 100c. If you have no delidded then 1.40v is the max as long as your temps are under 95 under load. Delid and you can go farther, intel specifies safe up to 1.50v for the 8700k. Majority of the motherboards come with 1.35v for stock voltage if that tells you anything.

    Takes me 1.355v for 5ghz. Full stable with no whea errors. Runs too hot at 95c under prime and aida with avx stuff. Decided to do 4.9 at 1.3 with ring ratio at 48. I get higher cinebench than your 5.0 with much lower temps. I think I'll call it until maybe one day I decide to delid. Dark rock pro 3 as cooler.

    Hey man! I bought a h100i v2 + i7-8700k + ASRock z370 Extreme4 (made a few research and found these to be one of the best setups for overclocking safely). I only play CS:GO and render videos for my youtube csgo professional channel. While gaming, i'm sure i won't have any trouble with high temperatures, but while i render the videos, my max temp is coming to 92~95 degrees with 1.36 vcore without overclocking (still everything on default, i haven't changed anything). Do you have any ideas to help me? really scared of overclocking right now.

    • @ECPUz
      @ECPUz  6 лет назад

      tiburci0 Hey. 1.36v is way too much for that CPU to be running at stock frequencies. One of two things is likely happening. 1. Your motherboard is over-volting the CPU. Try setting your own voltage to fix this. Also, make sure your BIOS is up to date on the board. 2. Your CPU is requesting too much voltage to achieve stability. Since 8700k's seem to be really good quality CPU's, I think it's unlikely that you happened to get one that needs this much voltage at stock. But it is possible unfortunately. Start with the board and see what you can do. At stock under load my chip will bounce around between about 1.15v to 1.22v. Try setting 1.22v and see if it's stable.

  • @Thatguy-vu5iu
    @Thatguy-vu5iu 5 лет назад

    1.32 volts is ultimate stability for me, I can run at 1.28v and play games and do whatever but I run into small issues here and there so I like to give it that headroom. I can actually get 5.2ghz but I don't like doing it as I'm using a 240mm rad.

    Overclocked my i7 8700K in my new setup today. I was able to get a stable 5.0 Ghz at only 1.28v (about 130~135 watts max power consumption on the package under max load) by adjusting some of the other settings. The temperatures were good on everything but the full load AIDA64 stress test in which the peak was 90C on one of the cores. This was a bit troubling to me since the voltage is fairly low and all my other tests produced fairly cool results. Is the AIDA64 stress test really just that intense? If you run it with all boxes (but GPU and Hard Drives) checked, let me know what kind of temps you get at 30+ minutes.

    • @valkyrieregalia
      @valkyrieregalia 6 лет назад

      Update: I was able to get it stable at 1.26v (tried 1.25v but wasn't able to pass the Intel Burn Stress Test on max stress). I also adjusted my fan curve for something a bit more optimal. Doing so, I was able to get my avg temperatures in the 70's during the max load AIDA64 stress test with the high points being in the mid 80's. It's a bit odd watching the test, it seems like the cores rotate the stress since as one raises, the others cool and it goes through each one that way despite usage on all cores being at 100%. As a result, my averages were a lot lower than my max. 0 Throttling. Considering I doubt I'll ever be under that kind of load practically, I feel pretty good about it. ^ O ^
      Oh and, I forgot to mention, I only overclocked the unicore to 4.0 GHz since I didn't think that would have as significant of an impact on anything pertinent.

    Nice Video. But for those who want a 24/7 use PC or for gamming only, and do not want to delid, I think they should not OC higher that 4.8. On gamming you wont see the difference between a 4.8 and a 5.0 OC. I have mine at 4.8 with 1.26 Vcore, my average temp while gamming 4k are 70c and Max temp on stress test of 86c.(not delidded )

    • @ECPUz
      @ECPUz  7 лет назад +4

      This is a good point. The difference between 4.8 and 5.0 will not be anything significant. There is generally a pretty big increase in the voltage required to obtain stability with those extra 200Mhz to hit 5.0. 4.8 is definitely a more comfortable everyday overclock.

      Zeniax you could start with 4.8GHz around 1.3v. This will likely be more than enough so run some stress tests then if it's stable, drop the voltage and retest. Keep doing this until you find the lowest stable vcore value. Remember to monitor your temps at the same time.

      ARINDOL PAUL it really comes down to your temperatures. As long as you're keeping the CPU cool under everyday use then you should be fine. 5ghz is a really nice OC on the 8700k. If you're not comfortable with your temps or are concerned with chip longevity, reducing the frequency a bit will decrease the voltage required and won't have a big impact on performance.

      Hey. The CPU is not delidded and is being cooled with a H105 with push/pull fans. I'm working on a video right now that will show the performance of the H100i V2 and H105. Since many if not all AIOs in my country are either unavailable or really expensive, Im buying mine in Europe while on vacations. That means that if something goes wrong RMA is almost impossible. Therefore I started considering high end tower cooling, mainly Noctua nh d15/d14/d14s.
    Will I obtain similar performance or are AIOs reliable enough to not worry about them failing?

    • @ECPUz
      @ECPUz  6 лет назад

      The high-end Noctua air coolers perform quite well, but I don't think reliability should be a reason not to use an AIO. I've been using AIO's for many years in many different systems and have never had one fail yet.

      ECPU Thanks for the reply. I’m inclined to go with the H115i for aesthetic purposes and also because it performs slightly better. Do you have any experience with it?

      Tomas Lombardini I haven't used the H115 but based on the performance of the H100i and H105 it will definitely be a good cooler for the 8700k. Keep in mind it uses 140mm fans so make sure you have the room in your case. I really don't think you can go wrong with the H115.

    I have followed like every possible overclocking step for the i7-8800k but no matter what I do the motherboard (ASUS Z370 TUF Gaming Plus) will discard my manual voltage override and go waay higher. All cores synced running at 4.7ghz will have the voltage go up as high as 1.37 volts at times, and at stock (with no overclocking except for using XMP profile) it barely stays under 1.3 volts. Am I just unlucky with my particular CPU? Is there an important setting I'm missing? *scratching head*. Using a 240mm AIO so I should at least be able to push the system a LITTLE bit, one might think.

      Filiboy :D Hey. It's hard to say any one cooler is the absolute best, but I generally like the performance and features of the Corsair H100i V2 for the price point. And for air coolers, I like the Noctua NH-D15. There are other coolers out there that might be better, but these are my picks for a decent overclock to 5GHz without building a crazy custom water loop.

      Hey. You are probably already close to the limits of your CPU for a safe every day overclock and I doubt you would gain much in terms of noticeable performance if you go full manual. However, taking over full control might allow you to obtain a more efficient overclock by manually fine tuning the voltages. Personally, if it were my chip, I'd try it because I like playing around with overclocking lol.

      Never mind this. I solved it. I received an 8700 inside of my 8700k box, I did not buy this used, I bought it from a local store and was factory sealed. Nothing cosmetically could of hinted that it was an 8700 because on my box it says it’s an 8700k and on the CPU it says as well that it is an 8700k. Not until I opened up my task manager and looked at the pc specs, then I found out that it was an 8700 @ 3.2 GHz. So I guess I’ll just have to exchange mine for a new one.

    • @ECPUz
      @ECPUz  6 лет назад +1

      That system sounds nice. The clock speed isn't so much the issue; it's the voltage. If 5GHz on your chip is stable with a decent voltage, it should be perfectly fine. However, if you happen to have a chip that requires high voltage to hit 5GHz, you may want to scale it back. If I had to guess, I would say you should be fine though. Most 8700K's can hit 5GHz without sky-high voltages. Just remember to keep an eye on your temperatures.

    Ok I'm confused. I have asus prime z 370-a with i7 8700k . downloaded cpu z . It's 5ghz . and stable. My question is ez tune has it 1.41v not runing stress test and 1.344v under load why does it go down under load. And if it lowers it to 1.344v and is stable while runing. Would it be better to leave it alone or manually set it to be 1.344 all the time and not 1.42 while not under load?

  • @johnmiller9159
    @johnmiller9159 3 года назад

    You obviously know what you're doing, which is good, but you didn't really explain what any of these setting actually are, or how we should go about fine tuning them ourselves (the voltage for example).
    You say not to just copy your settings but without understanding what these settings do and how to adjust them ourselves, all we can do is copy your settings.
    If you make more videos, consider explaining why you're adjusting the settings you are, and how we should go about adjusting ours if we don't get the same results as you.

    Also : when adjusting the CPU ratio , It doesn't let me make it over 47 , when I type 48 it automatically brings it back to 47. Not only that , but when I confirm the 47 and reboot , my clockspeed is only at 4.3 ghz and never goes beyond that.. please help me

      This reply is a day late and a dollar short but I think you need a z-type motherboard to overclock the i7-8700k. Also your are probably experiencing a built in boost which can take your CPU up to 4.7 ghz but only on one core, 4.3 ghz on multiple cores. Hope this helps.

      It probably won't require that much voltage for a stable 4.7. Since CPU's are not created equal, it's not really possible to know for sure though. Overclocking is an iterative process. Try 4.7 at 1.30v and test stability, then bump the voltage down a bit until you find the lowest voltage that will keep the chip stable.
