      [CHRIS] We built a couple of rigs for Blender with a bunch of GPUs, and for fun have been Cryptocurrency Mining in-between renders. It's been a learning experience. But now we built another system to try out DaVinci Resolve (coming from Final Cut Pro X), which is why I want to experiment with Overclocking and see if it makes a difference. Might even do a video on it. Looking forward to your next videos!

    Great work man, don't change anything, it's refreshing to see your video after having so many overproduced ones around that just edit from one scene to the next all the time. Don't worry about talking too much or taking too long it was very informative, thanks for sharing this. One thing though: Wouldn't you want to ensure that the CPU runs without issues in Prime 95 at 5GHz? -Games likely won't stress all cores at 5GHz like prime does of course I guess...

    I just discovered your channel so I'm liking, commenting, and subscribing :)
    I built a Z370-F, i5-8600k with a 240 radiator. I overclocked it to 5.0ghz last night. I originally went into the bios with the plan to set the ratio and voltage myself... and then, fine tune the voltage.
    In the bios, I discovered Intel's 5.0ghz Turbo Overclock factory option. I went with Intel's built in option for 5.0ghz OC speeds.
    Set bios to default.
    Enable Intel's 5.0ghz Turbo
    Set my DRAM timings and frequency
    Set my case fan speed using Q-Fan control.
    Let her rip.
    My temperatures are averaging same as yours, BUT, my lows are much lower and my highs are much higher.... 25c lows, and 55c highs.
    THE MOST TROUBLING THING TO ME HOWEVER ABOUT MY CURRENT OC. I'm seeing instantaneous temperature spikes that last a fraction of time when a heavy load starts. 82'C on Core #1 [#0]. Last night during RealBench V2 by Asus ROG I saw a spike of 91'C.. This is concernering to me, however the spikes don't last more than an instant and go back to normal. Under benchmarking my overall CPU temperature does not go above 75'C (this feels high to me.) Minus, the intial spikes that randomly happen.

      Follow up for you- I got my 8600k and overclocked it without really watching the vid. i was able to hit 5ghz but with really high voltage and temps- around 3.8-3.9. I watched your vid and dialed it back to 4.9- I am dead stable at 1.29 volts at 4.9. I could probs get that 5ghz now- I may try for it, but I think I will have to go up to 1.365 or 1.37 to get it and I dont think that voltage is worth the extra 100mhz. but your vid was SUPER helpful and much appreciated . I did not do the vrz offset for the reason you mentioned at the end, I wanted to stability test without it first, but I will go back and set it to probs 3-5 after my stability test, I just wanted to make sure I was stable at 4.9 first.

    How do you know that your 5ghz is stable on non AVX programs? You set it to downclock to 4.7ghz on AVX programs for stress testing such as prime95. You literally can't tell if it's stable at 5ghz on non AVX applications, unless I'm missing something?

    Wait. Wait. Wait a second. Before I upgraded to Z370 from Z97, all I've heard about coffee lake and the other lakes for that matter, was that it ran hot. Why is my 8600k at 4.9/1.29 idling at 31? Max temps after 11 hours was 65c in the hottest core during Aida64 stress test with all options stressed. I do have a 240 AIO, though so Idk.

      Try pushing 5 or more and you have to increase vcore, 8700k runs a bit hoter aswell. It's not uncommon that you need 1.35vcore for 5ghz and a bit more if you want 100-200mhz more, then delid and liquid metal might be a good idea if you know what you are doing because a good tower/AIO cooler gonna have problems.

    Is it ok for me to just use the 5ghz option auto overclocker profile in bios? Also, cpuz says core voltage is at 1.440 which is way higher than you said (the profile set it to auto, in fact everything in the auto overclock profile was untouched except the 50 thing), core temps are fine, generally sitting at mid 60 degrees celsius but hit a max of 94 which is very high... will it hit that high for gaming? Additionally after about 10 minutes prime 95 said that worker 3 hit a fatal error blah blah something about rounding was 2.68429866+033, expected less than 0.4 which means what exactly? Do I manually increase voltage even higher than the auto or decrease from 5GHZ to 4.9, 4.8 etc?

    • @chainedscythe2000
      @chainedscythe2000 6 лет назад

      nvm, decided to decrease the frequency to 4.7 and with some manual fan tweaking, I now hit 86 degrees max, big improvement
      voltage is still at auto but core temps show that the max used was 1.280, I will probs stick that manually at 1.300 to be safe
      edit: well that worked better than I thought it would, with the voltage set to 1.300 and llc at 2 it still draws 1.3524 at idle and 1.24-1.29 at load, none of the cores have 'failed' and temps are even lower under load, max being 76 degrees

    Hi, thanks for the tutorial! I never overclocked mine cpu's, but recently i purchased i5 8600k and ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-H GAMING MOBO and think about doing it.
    I am interested however in what to do if after settings i entered in BIOS my PC won't boot or i get BSOD.
    I will need to increase core voltage and maybe reduced frequency multiplier, right? Same thing if PC won't pass the 1h stress test?
    Also, does overclocking reduce CPU lifespan by a lot? Before i5 8600k i had 3570k (not overcloked) and it served me for 5 years without any problem. (i replaced it just for the upgrade, it's still operational)

    • @exob0b
      @exob0b 6 лет назад

      the oc will definitely reduce your cpu's lifespan and if u don't really need to oc just don't do it, i5 8600K is hella strong.

    • @TheTanelChannel
      @TheTanelChannel  6 лет назад +1

      I mentioned this in the video too but just regular CMOS, you can google that.. or take the battery out for a minute or so. But cmos jumper clear is the fastest way :)
      If temps are in the ok range then it won´t reduce the lifespan. CPU-s don´t usually die.. like.. ever.

    • @christoffelmiddel6663
      @christoffelmiddel6663 6 лет назад

      Look at Jaytwocentz for lifespan of a CPU. Most will hold out 5+ years with an 80% overclock if capable.
      I honestly don't like the I5-8600k I have just a few more FPS compared to my older I5-6400 and this time with more stuttering than before.

    • @triniox3186
      @triniox3186 6 лет назад

      Judge Dredd pretty sure the mobo will die b4 the cpu, and the stuttering could also be likely caused by overheating mosfets

    • @rafadorock4
      @rafadorock4 3 года назад

      It is easy man. Maybe you need 1.29 to 1.33 vcore but it is easy. Mine ran fine at 1.30 vcore, but it got too hot for my itx build so I lowered the OC to 4.8ghz with 1.28 vcore and it is fine. For the 4.8ghz I kept the avx at 0 so no frequency drop at avx instructions.

      DPRO VISUALS it s true. You need a Z370 board to OC 8gen K cpus(the letters next to z370 represent different motherboard sizes) . You can't OC on a H or B series boards.

    Not sure if you could still reply on an issue.
    Enabled XMP, enabled Sync all Cores, Offset at 3 and Core is at 50. I had to increase the voltage to the lowest of 1.330 to hit 5ghz (It was blue screening from 1.280-1.320)
    Ran CPU-ID and Core Temp to watch the temps which were fine for 10 minutes. Did a bench mark of Horizon Zero Dawn and did notice performance but the only thing is in game it caps out at 4.7Ghz as well as in prime95 it does the same. Caps right under 4.7 and actually ran one of my cores at 88c which horizon zero dawn benchmark didnt show.
    Can my cpu actually handle it at 5Ghz or is my maximum technically just 4.7Ghz?

    Hello Tanel, just wanted to ask something... I am planning on buying a Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming motherboard along with this beast of a CPU and wanted to know whether or not to go for water cooling if I am planning to OC at around 5GHz or if a good air cooling system can get the job done. Thanks in advance mate.

    I tried. Prime was giving me error just with 4.8 GHz and 3 AVX. I tried to up the voltage to 1.39V and the CPU reached 100C, not good. Then I tried again at 46 multiplier and the computer just rebooted. I think OC is not for me.
