+brock graham Dual wielded those axes from stratholme back entrance until i got to start the hunter weapon quest and finally recieved my epic bow and staff! Think i had to kill 4 special elites, remember one involved wing clip kiting back and forth, one was an endless kite, the other requires health pots\freezing trap\ and mana burning it down. Shit was more immersive and rewarding back then.
100% agreement with your arguement. I almost cried thinking of my experience in vanilla wow and when I was teaching my little brother before he passed away and how much effort you need to put in to a game to actually enjoy it.
+Cosmiic I'm in agreement with him too except for the transmog part, that's fucking retarded. Let people wear what gear they want. Oh, you can't see instantly what gear they're wearing because of transmog? Fucking inspect them then you shaggy nerd.
+GeneralProfessor And we all know how much people want to place false misconceptions on Blizzard because they don't get to do their assisting in illegal activities.
Orgimmar is a fucking ghost town now. Everyone just stands around by themselves in their fucking garrisons now. Fun Blizzard, great idea. I play MMO's to be alone youre right.
The huge majority of Blizzards complaints for WoD is not enough SOLO content. There's too much GROUP content. Hence why in Legion there's an entire level 100 zone that is nothing but quests and plot and story line for you to go do basically forever for as long as you want. Blizzard is only doing what they hear people complaining about, the louder voice is gonna win.
I know its a fairly old comment but blizzard shouldn't have listened to some complaints such as solo content its a mmo having a huge solo place is "basically" a single player game and people will keep to themselves and the "community" disappears
+Ultimex Frostty From my experience, WoD (in terms of raiding) is more difficult. Let me explain: the bosses have more mechanics and require more co-operation, meanwhile in vanilla, yes they did require co-operation, they were mainly just tuned highly for lots of dmg etc. - if you mean difficulty within levelling and the world itself then I do agree.
yeah I agree with you. I guess I didn't specify that I was talking about PvP mainly, so that's my bad. Regardless I had alot more fun when the lvling, questing, pvp, just general game and class mechanics were more complicated. And on top of that, we didn't have a million guides and tutorials on how to do things back in the day. you just had to figure it all out by yourself for the most part.
+Ultimex Frostty I mean I just started a new hunter on the Warmane WOTLK retail server (Lordaeron) i think its called, there was this quest by the night elf zone when u had to kill some satyr dude in a cave and he was surrounded with 2 mobs, HE HIT LIKE A FUCKING TRUCK i died atleast 6-7 times before i got his fucking head. (i was lvl 7) Nowadays the only way u can die anytime between lvl 1-100 is if u afk underwater or something stupid
yeah we could go on like this forever :D In short: "old" wow > current wow in most aspects. Btw there's some kind of a riot going on on twitter atm, signing petitions and gathering people that share the same idea basicaly. you can check out Chance's twitter.
I gotta admit, I never took sodapoppin as a guy who did entertain me - just not my cup of tea. But this video I can relate too(mostly because I want to love WoW again).
I agree with you Chance. I was a pretty shit arena player and only made it to 1600's during Lich King but I always thought it was so badass that there were people who got that 1800 weapon. I played so much and tried to get to that next level because there was PURPOSE to strive for excellence. There was PURPOSE to stay in that late night raid group and wipe so many times because you wanted that chance at even the 10man weapon so you could smash a little harder in arenas. WoW in its simplest explanation went full collectivist to make everyone "feel good." They took away exceptional-ism with players. Remember being a lowbie and running into town and seeing that guy who had that piece of arena gear you never thought you could get? Competition and unfairness drives people. Blizzard went full "everyone gets a trophy."
+Dyke Cuckerberg It's not just you, people are less social. I'm even guilty of it myself, back in the day I used to talk to and explore WoW with strangers, form groups and be social. Now I don't really talk to anyone, people just think you're a creep if you talk to them lol.
One of my favorite memories in Vanilla WoW was saving and saving and saving up and finally getting a 1000g mount. All that walking, makes your appreciate your extra speed.
+Molmor well I have played every expansion on release and this is just my opinion that everything after wrath just got worse and worse. but I respect your opinion
The decline started in 3.3 with LFD. It was actually fine during that patch because it really functioned as a catch-up mechanism for alts and latecomers, and it could be kept in the game if it was only available as such during the final patch of each xpac. But once it became the only way to run group content, the game devolved into impersonal afk queue nonsense. Yes, looking for PUGs was a hassle, but the inconvenience was balanced out by so many benefits that are now gone. You actually met people, from your own server. You'd travel the world to get to the dungeon and talk to them on the way. People had an incentive to be amicable because they actually had reputations. And because you actually interacted with these people, they weren't dehumanized annoyances getting in the way of your daily Skinner box grind. Getting a group together to run heroics and badge cap actually felt like setting out on an adventure in an actual world. With LFD/LFR, the progression system has all the depth of a Zynga game. Not every quality of life change has been for the worse, but some of them led to ridiculous feature creep. Oh, so LFD is the only viable way to level now? Damn, we need more tanks and healers to queue, so let's incentivize them with loot bags. Oh, badge farming has turned into a boring grind, let's remove badges. Shit, now the only way for people to get gear for raiding is LFR, so let's funnel everyone into the worst, most dehumanizing, lowest common denominator crap we've ever created, so everyone can now couple the joy of mindless grinding with the fun of 25 impatient, anonymous strangers proving The Greater Internet Dickwad Theory every week. Stat crunch, currency/progression system back to early Wrath, get rid of all group finders. Just make content regularly, make the graphics keep up with the times, and stop fucking with the basic systems that actually make the game what it is. The game is not hemorrhaging players because it's old, it's because you invented the wheel and then tried to reinvent it for some incomprehensible reason.
Patrurjonte Yeah, which is why I pointed out it wasn't a bad feature at the end of an expansion cycle. The problem was that it quickly became the only way to run dungeons, they tried that whole "must discover entrance" thing at the start of Cata but quickly got rid of it. Blizzard seems incapable of moderation - they go overboard with an initially good feature and then nerf it to oblivion once it backfires (see flying, dailies).
+Sam M. ''Blizzard seems incapable of moderation - they go overboard with an initially good feature and then nerf it to oblivion once it backfires'' Agreed. They do this so many times. I don't remember if WotLK had a world-wide LFG channel, but if it didn't, it could be a moderate action for this problem than just making the PUG process automatic. Or the panel that exists now which allows you to create groups for any activity would be okay (minus the auto-invite). Oh, your server/faction has low population? Instead of doing the most logical and simple thing like setting up free server transfers (like they did in Classic), they made making cross-realm phasing and cross-realm queues, throwing the players even further down the pit of anonymity and assholery. Oh, you want housing for your character so you can put there your trophies etc.? Why don't we make it part of the game, turn it into a Facebook game, and have you never leave it. Instead (if they thought it was a cool idea), they could just made a that: a small phased house in one of the big cities where your achievements appear physically. Oh, Cataclysm didn't have enough dailies? Well, here's a fuckton of dailies and double-gating in Pandaria so you can be bored to death from the tedium of it all. etc. etc.
Vaios Gaintatzis The dailies stuff annoyed me the most. I always liked dailies just to have stuff to do and maybe a few cool rewards at the end, but locking all badge gear behind daily factions was idiotic. And then when everyone hated being forced to do them, their solution is to just get rid of dailies AND badge gear and create grind islands. Which, again, would be cool if they were optional and existed alongside other solo content like dailies. I think it all comes down to the fact that they think it's not worth developing feature X unless every player partakes in it, so they move around the reward/progression mechanics and thereby break the game. In reality, having the extra content be optional with cosmetic/bragging rewards is what makes them special. No one had to grind out Netherwing or Bloodsail Admiral, so they remained unique and exciting. What a clusterfuck it would be if everyone needed to do them to progress in a tier of content.
The breaking point for me was when flying in azeroth was brought in. Exploration was so fun back in the day when you were at level cap & needed something to do while waiting for raid drops to reset :'(
As cool as it is, flying in general was probably a poor choice in the long run. Some form of flying could have been added sure, but being able to just bypass most of the world as if it were nothing kinda ruined the whole sense of the vast world they had created.
It is funny because Runescape has a bigger community on Twitch now ONLY because they released ""Legacy servers" or as they call it, OSRS and now have more players than they ever have had, they started with the original game from 2007 and every update they do which is very common is polled weekly so all players can vote on if they want the updates or not, 75% is required to pass the poll. The game is completely community driven now; I truly wish Blizzard did the same thing for a legacy server and let the community decide what they want.
Agreed on all of it - the gold, the grind - even down to the Transmog bit. And thought I was alone on that, the notion of 'wearing what you earn' and all that. There'd always be some dude sitting on top of the Orgrimmar bank with the sickest gear on the server with a crowd of dudes standing round him /Inspecting. Not sure about the PvE items in PvP though with regards to Trinkets! But I DID like how casters used to trade off Resilience gear for more damage through PvE items / 2-sets =] That was interesting.
I'm the only person in my guild now that logs on. I flew to Old Nagrand, walked around, found a nice spot, and logged off. I won't play wow until Blizzard fixes their game... And what's sad is that if they took the 5 seconds that it would probably take, and called up the Nostalrius team, they would already have a dedicated team willing to run Vanilla servers for them.
Blizzard sold us out. We were loyal and addicted fans to their game that we loved so much. But they were greedy and just wanted more money, so they made the game extremely casual to attract more players. But that was a huge mistake, one that they will never even admit. But you fucked up HARD Blizzard. What happend to making a game simply beacuse you're passionate about what you're doing and just want a happy and entertained playerbase? I especially like the point you made about being able to play the whole game from orgrimmar. It really is like a fucking facebook game these days... We will never forget the golden age of gaming! RIP World of Warcraft.
+Thyraz Time to protest,World of Warcraft only wants from us money.Money, money and money.I never played Retail, why? Because i don't have money. But i have fun on Private Servers, even if they are 50% bugged ( some of them ).
+Thyraz I feel you man, only played wow for like a month myself but been an 11 year old runescape veteran myself and you can literally buy your stats/gear with irl money nowadays,it's fun eh how it used to be the RS VS WoW argument back in the day when nowadays we're both getting assfucked by the developers...money destroyed this world
It's funny you mentioned Runescape during the twitch thing, Runescape asked people if they'd want the old, Vanilla version of the game and the community overwhelming said yes. It even became so popular that they put out content for the old version of the game.
+Gestur Björnsson No they didnt.... Nobody said anything about hupdates after rs2 came out. They keep the old content relevant while bringing out new things..
+Maxwell Pettit Dont join into this... The new content for the most part has been fine. Literally my only issue has been Nightmare Zone. Because people afkd and maxed out quite quickly because they allowed afking with guthans to continue forever.
+Gestur Björnsson The kept the old content relevant while updating quite a bit in a GOOD way. PVM improved a shit load, the only problem ever has been NMZ and thats finally fixed so afking it while asleep isn't really possible now. (You can still kinda cheat) but it's bannable. Lol new bosses, I see fairly good content. People complained when RS2 released ffs. People just being dumb and hating on the updates, it's not perfect but it's lightyears ahead of rs3 in terms of quality and being fun and true to rs.
Yeah the game was fun when it was hard and shit in the game mattered. But then the people that had no dedication to play a hard game cried all the fucking time, so blizzard made everything to maximize profit and ruined the game
+Laturbo A lot of It wasn't necessarily hard...just things took time to accomplish, the game was more slowed down and complex in some areas. The game is so dumbed down now that it is completly shallow.
+Laturbo Well, you had to take into consideration, veteran players that wanted multiple alts. They dont want to grind for a month just for a new character to hit max level.
In 1.5 years from 8/2005 to 1/2007, on average of 2 hours a day during the week and 4 hours a day on the weekend, I had a level 52 NE Hunter and a level 30 or so Dwarf Paladin. I had such a freaking blast playing WoW with my best friend I wasn't concerned with leveling. But it felt like it was really earned to level up. It took time and effort. I had trained my leatherworking and skinning professions beyond dragonscale working. I would farm dragonkin as often as I could (and make my friend jealous by getting a mini black whelpling. scales drop rate from skinning was horrendous but I lucked out and got 45g when gold used to be hard to accumulate. F Blizzard and their economics team. encouraging inflation and devaluation of goods so deliberately with BC expac) and accidentally ran into one of the dreamers. There was no dungeon finder or auto teleport to dungeon. Running from the Alliance harbor to the barrens dungeon as a low level was terrifying. There were crocodiles and witches and dragonlings everywhere. I don't know how many times I died. F Blizzard and their coddling.
In TBC me and my friend would arena until 5 AM, and before we went to sleep we would set the alarm to 10 AM so we could get up early and continue arena so we didn't waste our time sleeping lol.
remember when you would sit out side the main city and you would duel other people. remember when you would put together a raid to raid stormwin or org city. remember when you would make friends and just fuck around in wow. remember when you had to walk everywhere. remember when you had to google up a quest just to find the mobs. remember when you put a group together and 2 of you had to summon. remember looking at someones gear and them clicking on your portal knowing you were checking them out. remember LFM 10 man NEED HEALER, LF Ret pally LF. Remember CROSSROADS. Remember fishing in oasis springs. I remember WOW waiting for hours and hours siting with my hunter, because i wanted that black lion just to make him my pet, only because the spawn timer was hours at a time, just to say i had the cool looking lion. I remember GIRDING and that was fun. Even if it took all day.
I quit when I finished BC content, so I have nothing but these wonderful memories of my other life in WoW. I remember everything you wrote, and much much more. Tarren Mill battles, travelling afoot across the land doing numerous quests, instances, spending hours just to get from one location to the next, the game wasn't just a game...it was another life and like living out your very own epic fantasy story full of adventure. I played for 3 years, and one of my closest in-game friends was a priest I met to heal during my very first ever instance, Deadmines. We became good friends, guilded together, and have kept in touch even since quitting nearly a decade ago. I achieved everything I wanted to in my time in Azeroth, from learning the world and exploring each area to it's fullest, to being a guild master and raiding endgame content together, to becoming one of the best warriors on the realm in the realm's no.1 PvE guild and server-first Illidan. That was where my story ended, and I cherish the memories. I'll never step foot in the land again, not from the things I've heard, and it makes me immensely sad to know that the game has lost it's sense of achievement, grind, and community. People live to achieve things, not be handed them.
I am glad Soda made this video. I myself and my friends were players on Nostalrius. So bummed it got shutdown, it was like the first server to go mainstream. I don't think Vanilla and Nostalrius is dead unless we let it be. It still lives inside all of us and the Nost Refugees. That is why we made a new Server project, of non profit and no pay to win, pure vanilla blizzlike , in dedication to Nostalrius and to recreate it, you can find the server if you google search Siege WoW vanilla server.
I miss the days when you had to buy your skills from the trainer. then at low level you had to choose what skills you needed most due to the fact gold mattered in vanilla and TBC
+Xan Millar then after you got what you needed it was the grind to get your 100% ground mount at 60..that took me so long and it was only like 1K gold or something like that. These days I'm paying for my sub with gold and that ranges for 35-40K gold a month...
when i play mmos and i get to endgame i make a new character, for me the journey is where i get my enjoyment. wow became far too easy. id return if i could play on vanilla.
+BobSamurai Anime Reviews Wow, surprised seeing you here! I agree with you definitely. It isn't just Vanilla though, I'd return if the journey to end game needed any effort at all. WoW's too convenient now which makes everything outside of mythics boring.
+Kyle Bennett all mmos need to do that actually. ESO is worse than this in regards to listening to players. They either delete the topic or lock it so ppl wont discuss it lol.
+Local Lion Right? everyone would say of Swtor is wow killer etc etc but always that like group of players/people would say WoW will be the only think to kill it off.
For the average normal human that has a job/school and plays 1-5h a day. max. Those guys that got to 60 slept once in three days , shared the acc with someone else, know everything about the game and practised to get afap to 60 for years.
yea man people lvling to 60 in less then a week wasse only for mages! or pre made dungeon groups(aoe farming)!and or hunter.OR normal lvl"ers that got lucky and stayed before the big mass. u also have to take in consideration the SKILL LVL off these players. they all haid atleast privat server experience and planned this out for MONTHS! So today if u are a normal player with 0 experience in wow or even classic and NORMAL GAMING HOURS.it will STILL take u months to get to 60's.
I've genuinely never really watched your stream or listened to much of your opinion but the emotion you had during this was overwhelming. I honestly want to know what it was like to play wow when you couldn't dungeon que and people walked the leveling areas. I have never considered what that would look like. Eye opening video.
@@PalmeCardona the game is the same yes, but the experience did not satisfy what i was looking for in classic, and from what ive heard alot of people agree. the knowlagde of the game ruined the exploring, and leveling and learning
in my opinion, back in BC and vanilla, i absolutely LOVED being level 10-15, being at the crossroads in barrens late at night and in the game it was night time. i loved running around by myself and leveling up in the barrens, fooling around every once and a while. it was quite amazing and peaceful
Also I think our nostalgia could be caused by the isolation that we find ourselves in our everyday lives. Psychologically it makes sense, back in the day games were more social and offered intimacy and friendship, rl during that time was more intimate as well, people actually called and talked to each other. Now everyone is sitting at their garrisons at wow and on their smartphones irl. All your connection with the world that we consider reality is being filtered through so many things that it breeds the feelings of isolation whether you are aware of it or not. Back in the day when you had a crappy day you hopped in your game you called home and just unwinded with the immersion. Now that's also taken from us. I just think that in deep down we are all just sad and lonely now, reminiscent about the good old days with friends and lan parties and carefree, connected life.
You're right on a lot of shit here. Here's the difference though - If someone joins wow now, they might like the game. But there's no now wow subscriber who falls in love with wow like we did. Even if a 14 year old picks up wow, he won't fall in love with it like we did. He'll just think it's kinda cool sometimes. That's what kills me
I am a post-wotlk scrub who played 2.3k in3s arena during legion and I tried Elysium out half a year ago. I deeply enjoyed leveling and played less and less of legion, I had just much more fun in vanilla WoW and when I went back to legion one time I noticed that most of my guild members and arena mates quit the game and when I did a bg it was nothing but depressing. My season 1 elite gear was/is pure bullshit now and I can't outplay anyone with my 3buttons which leads to me being useless even though I play on a so much higher lvl than these facerolling melees with their titanforged noob-raid gear... The game has been dumbed down on so many levels and I had to try vanilla out myself to realize that. In vanilla I can actually do work in bgs with leveling gear by using my absolute ton of spells in an intelligable way, which feels nothing but rewarding. Killing a sulfuras wearing warrior with blue gear as destro is probably one of the most fun experiences I ever had in WoW. In vanilla outplaying and skill is/was a thing, now a 3k player will lose a 1v1 against any scrub who has better gear or grinded more AP or was straightout a lucky bastard who got titanforged lfr gear and BiS legendaries
Back in classic we were farming for weeks if not months just to get the 100% mount. People used to lend each other money for it and we celebrated each other when someone finally got it. Every single point you made here is legit. Thank you for the nostalgia :)
I remember when you couldn't get to the dungeon because there are no warlock in your party so you had to find alternative way. Also the feeling you get as you are approaching a new dungeon and you can get a feeling from outside how it's going to be. When you had to swim through the lake that you thought was small but turned out there was a whole new dungeon under it, so casually hidden.
This game is my childhood. It absorbed me when I was 8 watching my dad raid Molten Core. I just ran around killing shit and having a blast. I haven't played all of the expansions, but I watched every second until Wrath on my dads computer until he was okay with me actually playing. This game has been in my life for so long..and it hurts. Seeing a huge part of my childhood crushed every year by a company I used to idolize... Thank you for the old days blizzard. But you guys have lost me forever. You destroyed this game.
took me 3 moths to get lvl 60 . I busted my ass so hard to lvl and i enjoyed every minute of my game. But now the shit is so easy that any toddler can play and get epics.
"But now the shit is so easy that any toddler can play and get epics." I have to correct you there, since legion is a thing now: But now the shit is so easy that any toddler can play and get Legendaries and Artifacts (like fucking ASHBRINGER).
I miss the old days of playing WoW where things that you did in the game felt like a progression and was rewarding with every single thing that you did. I also miss how it felt like when everything you did in the game mattered and there were consequences with how you acted on the server and people actually had reputations for doing things. For example, people on the server would be considered the best pvp player in a certain class etc etc. I feel like WoW is seriously a single player game sometimes. I miss "old" WoW
your comments about arenas and rating required gear is somthing that actually got me sad. i never was a top player and never got full gear but i LOVED it! i remember getting to 1800 with my lock, and i now could buy my legs(?) item, its so many years ago but i can still remember the arena game ive played! i was so hyped and so damn happy. its just sad you can just buy it all now.
I agree all the way through. I really liked the line "I feel like everyone wants to love World of Warcraft." YES. That's exactly it. This was a first love for so many people and it could be again. If it wasn't for Roleplaying and the amazing community I am in, which doesn't rely on the content, I'd have left a LONG time ago. I agree. This beautiful, wonderful game has become so POINTLESS. I really cannot support private servers. Just in any capacity. I agree absolutely that Blizz needs to have servers for this content and they are missing a huge oppertunity. Still, it belongs to them and this is taking their stuff without asking. Even if you weren't profiting, that's just not the right thing to do. And the DDoS attack in response? Tacky, childish, and counterproductive. Here's to hoping for some fun in Legion, at least in the beginning.
+Zen Honestly if someone told me "Buy a sub, i'll carry you through the whole Mythic raiding and you get everything for free" i wouldn't. I mean, what's to gain from that? A retarded magical moose? I got a better one from the christmas event. Gear that i can't fucking use because there's no content to use it in? Nah. I'll pass.
I just started on Kronos tonight as someone who played retail from cata to WoD. Whilst early levelling we were all fighting over tags so we had to group. I got talking to people, asking questions about vanilla, etc. Then I was wondering around putting power word fortitude on everyone I saw just to be helpful, and I might get a Mage buff back etc or healing people struggling with mobs and I just thought, this just could not happen on retail. I wouldn't make these little passing friends or have these moments where we just emote each other and stuff. It's like living your life in a big city and going to the countryside. You're suprised when you pass someone in the street and they say 'hello!' As they walk by, but you love it
World of Warcraft is now just a vessel for profit for Blizzard. They're relying on a brand name to sell a product that is not even close to the quality it used to be.
Over a year ago since this video was released I still agree with every single thing you said. I now play on another private server but keep my Blizzard account open to support them while I play on a private server. I am never ever on Blizzards own servers. Never. But daily on the private server with a LOT of other players who actually LOVE leveling, the PVP,, the community, the challenges, ect. It's awesome from 1-60 and it takes forever.
So, 6 months later every thing that publicitypoppin complained about current live wow at the time is literally happening right now every second as he plays legion. Recycling the same content every week (same WQs everyday, same mythic+ spam of the same dngs for the same gear every week) like how are ppl not looking ahead, youre telling me a few months down the line, the only progression system is gonna be THE SAME WORLD QUESTS FROM LAUNCH THAT JUST REWARDS HIGHER ILVL GEAR CAUSE ITS A NEW PATCH or WHEN PPL GET HIGH ENOUGH ILVL TO BREEZE THROUGH a +15 MYTHIC AND THEN ALL YOURE GONNA SEE IS HEY IN PATCH 7.3 WERE ANNOUNCING 15 EXTRA LVLS FOR MYTHIC+ FOR THE SAME DNGS YOUVE BEEN DOING SINCE LAUNCH. Chance youre slowly showing me that everything you do has a hidden agenda man. You literally havent said anything about legacy since the recent news, which is odd considering your relentless pursuit of legacy only half a year ago. Infact since legion youve almost seemed to not care about legacy completely, almost being a shill for blizzard saying "wow is so good right now theres so much to do guys i would reccomend it". Like bro open your eyes, you are quite literally doing the same things every stream, same world quests that offer no variation, same mythic+ where the only variation is the affixes and scaling difficulty with every lvl. The only good thing wow has right now is raiding IF that. I wouldnt have cared if you atleast mentioned it on stream and contiue your support for nost/legacy. But you havent said a single fucking word, why is that? To me it seems like you did all this shit for your own personal gain and nothing else. As a follower of your stream since the "old soda" im dissapointed in your lack or support for nost/legacy in the past few days when only a few months ago you were going balls deep for the cause, seems fake hypocritical to me, but what do i know, making decisions like that doesnt earn me a few thousand dollars on my stream through support donations and people subbing to you cause they appreciated the cause you were fighting for.
He didnt even wear the nos shirt to blizzcon in the end. This guys is no supporter of vanilla or our community as a whole, just another blizz fanboi plodding along playing whatever content they shove down his throat.
One of the main complains was that there was no content and now blizzard gives us plenty ( and they released new world quest and u have something to do) overall the game just got better as he wants to play it u guys are just fans from vanilla and dont want to play anything else, doesnt matter if the current game is good or not thats just the truth
If Blizzard takes this video, completely erases Legion and puts these ideas into it, you will essentially have a re-skinned vanilla WoW. And everyone will play it.
+Eliot Pacella Yeah, If only Blizzard redesigns Vanilla WOW itself and releases it, if they're this much unsatisfied of running the old version! I don't see how's going to damage their current product that are already damaged lol... BTW, Companies like Nintendo starts this concept of "retro" gaming months ago, and it works marvelously along side there newly released content!
Best moment I had in WoW was when I was done with the warlock legendary quest line for greenfire. They made a solo quest line that was cosmetic only, but it was hard (pre-nerf, with some shitty gear). Reminded me of when I got my epic warlock mount back in Vanilla. It was hard and it took forever. TBC was probably the best expansion. Vanilla WoW was alright. I haven't played WoW in over a year now. I've been playing on and off for 8-10 years?(10+, but had huge breaks throughout each expansion after TBC) We all know that we hoped they would bring back some of the awesome things we loved about the game, but it sorta never happened. I had fun, but I have no respect for the game any more. RIP WoW.
right?? at least Jagex realized they fucked up and made the old servers come back, and look how much they are making off it.. now imagine a company as big as blizzard doing it. jeeze
Speaking of arena gear, the first time I got my 1800 arena weapon... I was so happy for like a week straight lol And I 100% agree with everything you said.
+Draconic Personnell Because long and uncut rants are usually boring to watch. People lose their train of thought and skip a certain point in the middle of explaining it while talking alot. So jump cuts keep the video concise and easier to follow.
It cuts out down time where you're trying to figure out what to say, or you go onto a rant about something, and the jump cuts, as nasty as they are, do help to clean that up.
Something that you might be interested in trying that I did in WoD that was super fun was I started a level 1 hunter and did all the starter zone quests, at level 10 I turned off my xp and went to every single starting zone and did all the quests. I discovered a lot of lore, got a lot of transmog and tons of crafting mats. I was also a hunter so I got to find a lot of rares and tame them. I always kept myself the level of the zones I was questing in to make it feel more immersive. I kept my xp off if I wanted to grind dungeons for rep etc. When I got max level for whatever expansion level I was I had my bf run me through raids to finish quests. I had to stop at level 75 because my void storage/bank/bags were full from all the transmog I was collecting for legion. *side note transmog rant* They decided to change the transmog for plate/leather/mail for hybrid classes like hunter so some of the transmog I had collected turned into plate so that was kind of a bummer. It is hands down been one of the most fun experiences I have had in WoW and I have played since human pallies could fear undead :D. I plan on doing the same thing for the opposing faction.
On a cold lonely night in the winter of 2005 I stayed up until 3 am to finish grinding out the last bit of gold in Tyr's hand to buy my epic mount. Even after I finished scraping together that bit my guild asked me to sub in to a Stratholme live run to help them finish. It was 430 am by the time we finished and I fell asleep at my desk. 2 hours later I woke up and went to school (I was a senior in high school at the time), and the entire day i was fucking pumped just to get through the day and go home, because I could buy my riding skill and my Alterac ram when I got home. That small moment which seems inconsequential to some was an accomplishment I haven't felt since killing Illidan in TBC. Because even though it seems silly, I had worked for that. The less than 1% of the player base that managed to Kill Kel'thuzad in Naxx 40, they didn't do it for a cosmetic title or mount, they did it because it's what you Blizzard presented us with a true hurdle to overcome. There was no MYTHIC setting back then, just what was released, sometimes with bubblewrap because Jesus fuck you could only try to find a new guild so many times. However you were never left wanting because there was always a next level to ascend to with like minded people. Challenge is what makes the adventure worth while because accomplishing something is only gratifying when it is something that is not easy.
You think you want those progression servers Sodapoppin, but you don't.

do u guys remember having quivers and 2 daggers as a hunter?
+russia4lyfe sonic spear on my hunter ;D
+brock graham Dual wielded those axes from stratholme back entrance until i got to start the hunter weapon quest and finally recieved my epic bow and staff!
Think i had to kill 4 special elites, remember one involved wing clip kiting back and forth, one was an endless kite, the other requires health pots\freezing trap\ and mana burning it down.
Shit was more immersive and rewarding back then.
that bow and staff is so op
I remember having my gun and my PvP boar axe from 40vs40 A/V (and I was a human warrior at the time yes warriors could use guns :) )
i remember, but i prefer the way it is now

100% agreement with your arguement. I almost cried thinking of my experience in vanilla wow and when I was teaching my little brother before he passed away and how much effort you need to put in to a game to actually enjoy it.
+Cosmiic im sorry man, sodaL

Holy shit, sorry for your lost, I can feel his arguement to 100%
+Cosmiic FeelsBadMan ̿̿ ̿̿ ̿̿ ̿'̿'\̵͇̿̿\
+Cosmiic I'm in agreement with him too except for the transmog part, that's fucking retarded. Let people wear what gear they want. Oh, you can't see instantly what gear they're wearing because of transmog? Fucking inspect them then you shaggy nerd.
People had fun on Nostalrius. And we all know how much Blizzard hates when people have fun.
+GeneralProfessor Truth.
+GeneralProfessor We all know that you want to have fun, but you don't. -Blizzard 2016
+GeneralProfessor And we all know how much people want to place false misconceptions on Blizzard because they don't get to do their assisting in illegal activities.
+GeneralProfessor Blizzard aka "We've got the fun in our sights".
+GeneralProfessor You will do your follower missions and you will like it.
Orgimmar is a fucking ghost town now. Everyone just stands around by themselves in their fucking garrisons now. Fun Blizzard, great idea. I play MMO's to be alone youre right.
Sounds like you think you do, but you don't ;)
+Emidretrauqe instead it's so true
yes, we play warcraft to sit in a campsite in our little facebook club
The huge majority of Blizzards complaints for WoD is not enough SOLO content. There's too much GROUP content. Hence why in Legion there's an entire level 100 zone that is nothing but quests and plot and story line for you to go do basically forever for as long as you want. Blizzard is only doing what they hear people complaining about, the louder voice is gonna win.
I know its a fairly old comment but blizzard shouldn't have listened to some complaints such as solo content its a mmo having a huge solo place is "basically" a single player game and people will keep to themselves and the "community" disappears
the best thing about "old" wow was its difficulty.
+Skutsipena An ironman run is retarded.
(i was lvl 7) Nowadays the only way u can die anytime between lvl 1-100 is if u afk underwater or something stupid
yeah we could go on like this forever :D
In short: "old" wow > current wow in most aspects. Btw there's some kind of a riot going on on twitter atm, signing petitions and gathering people that share the same idea basicaly. you can check out Chance's twitter.
Im so proud of you. you don't look like a piece of shit anymore
+Darth Bieber hahahahahahahahah
+Darth Bieber hes off drugs
+wownelfwarrior247 Well he doesnt look "like" a piece of shit but he does look like shit.
+Darth Bieber no he just looks like a neckbeard nerd
You look good Chance. Like a reasonably sane person. Respect.
Ugly af tho... And look at that "beard".
I disagree, I think completely the opposite.
i think he looks fkn hot xd
i was thinking the same thing. I stopped watching him when i cringed at his drinking videos, he was acting like a 12 year old lol
"Cringed" what are you ten?
just saying, it takes like 3-4 days of in game play time to go from 1 to 100
+Lee Mack Ill do it in a day if you want me to.

runescape did it.
I remember having to actually buy arrows as a hunter and feeding your pet so it will not leave you
I tried playing wow but it was really lonely because no one would talk to me lol
+quillife I talked to more people on a private server (PrimalWoW) in the first hour of playing than I did in 2 weeks of WoD.
I feel likes most mmo games tend to be like that these days, and it really depresses me.
***** I guess that's true. I just feel like so many mmos have had a really anti-social atmosphere the last couple years.
+Dyke Cuckerberg It's not just you, people are less social. I'm even guilty of it myself, back in the day I used to talk to and explore WoW with strangers, form groups and be social. Now I don't really talk to anyone, people just think you're a creep if you talk to them lol.
+quillife as he said the community is dead and i can confirm that, i used to play on retail in cata and mop and it wasnt much better even back then
Damn, you making this type of video I can tell you're passionate about this
+Darzii it did make his streaming career :D
"people want to love world of warcraft, but it's so hard" i totally agree with this... 100%
He must feel so good about himself in that video now that classic is rocking everything
One of my favorite memories in Vanilla WoW was saving and saving and saving up and finally getting a 1000g mount. All that walking, makes your appreciate your extra speed.
I thought everyone quit after Cataclysm?
+MrFluffy yep that was the downfall
+level60mage I'll always defend MoP as a genuinely good expansion (inb4 "but pandas xDDDD")
+Molmor well I have played every expansion on release and this is just my opinion that everything after wrath just got worse and worse. but I respect your opinion
+Molmor MoP from a pvp perspective was just stupid.
+Ray San Yeah, I enjoyed MoP the most, but the PvP was just stupid.
+Sam M. ''Blizzard seems incapable of moderation - they go overboard with an initially good feature and then nerf it to oblivion once it backfires''
Agreed.
+Patrick De Freitas yeah ikr!, I love playing osrs. it has been a huge success too!
Well said Chance, you should make more real talk videos like this in the future, It's quite interesting hearing your opinions on things in this format
+CagetheKyle Unless you do more ironman challenge. Then we cool.
+TheLazyPeon Bro you doing any video about this or just watch others rant?
Agreed on all of it - the gold, the grind - even down to the Transmog bit. And thought I was alone on that, the notion of 'wearing what you earn' and all that. There'd always be some dude sitting on top of the Orgrimmar bank with the sickest gear on the server with a crowd of dudes standing round him /Inspecting.
Not sure about the PvE items in PvP though with regards to Trinkets! But I DID like how casters used to trade off Resilience gear for more damage through PvE items / 2-sets =] That was interesting.
back to this video. WE MADE IT BOIS
Yes bro!!!
+Thyraz Time to protest,World of Warcraft only wants from us money.Money, money and money.I never played Retail, why? Because i don't have money. But i have fun on Private Servers, even if they are 50% bugged ( some of them ).
+Thyraz I feel you man, only played wow for like a month myself but been an 11 year old runescape veteran myself and you can literally buy your stats/gear with irl money nowadays,it's fun eh how it used to be the RS VS WoW argument back in the day when nowadays we're both getting assfucked by the developers...money destroyed this world
Number1 Scaper Word man I remember those days when people would fight over and defend their favourite MMO hah!
It's funny you mentioned Runescape during the twitch thing,
Runescape asked people if they'd want the old, Vanilla version of the game and the community overwhelming said yes. It even became so popular that they put out content for the old version of the game.
+Maxwell Pettit Yeah they ruined osrs by starting to update it.
Gestur Björnsson Oh no I agree with that, it's more about the principle of the thing.
Sodapoppin, you didn't wear a Nostalrius tee at BlizzCon. What's up with that? I thought you were going to represent us.
Yeah the game was fun when it was hard and shit in the game mattered. But then the people that had no dedication to play a hard game cried all the fucking time, so blizzard made everything to maximize profit and ruined the game
+Laturbo Indeed.
+Laturbo A lot of It wasn't necessarily hard...just things took time to accomplish, the game was more slowed down and complex in some areas. The game is so dumbed down now that it is completly shallow.
+Laturbo WoW wasn't hard. It was monotonous.
+Motör Punx
Yet, behind the monotony, it had a sense of accomplishment. I wonder why?...
+Laturbo Well, you had to take into consideration, veteran players that wanted multiple alts. They dont want to grind for a month just for a new character to hit max level.
Blizzard should hire the entire team and have them run it officially.
Back in my day, I had to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow. Now get off my lawn!
In 1.5 years from 8/2005 to 1/2007, on average of 2 hours a day during
the week and 4 hours a day on the weekend, I had a level 52 NE Hunter
and a level 30 or so Dwarf Paladin. I had such a freaking blast playing
WoW with my best friend I wasn't concerned with leveling. But it felt
like it was really earned to level up. It took time and effort. I had
trained my leatherworking and skinning professions beyond dragonscale
working. I would farm dragonkin as often as I could (and make my friend
jealous by getting a mini black whelpling. scales drop rate from
skinning was horrendous but I lucked out and got 45g when gold used to
be hard to accumulate. F Blizzard and their economics team. encouraging
inflation and devaluation of goods so deliberately with BC expac) and
accidentally ran into one of the dreamers. There was no dungeon finder
or auto teleport to dungeon. Running from the Alliance harbor to the
barrens dungeon as a low level was terrifying. There were crocodiles
and witches and dragonlings everywhere. I don't know how many times I
died. F Blizzard and their coddling.
The best day of my life was getting Deathbringers Will
I didn't know you played WoW Dirty?
+Morgan Dibbins You have no idea! It was my life
In TBC me and my friend would arena until 5 AM, and before we went to sleep we would set the alarm to 10 AM so we could get up early and continue arena so we didn't waste our time sleeping lol.
+Casper Svendsen :'( don't make me remember haha i loved those days
+Casper Svendsen Yeah just like that, the good old days
wow this is a real youtube video
remember when you would sit out side the main city and you would duel other people. remember when you would put together a raid to raid stormwin or org city. remember when you would make friends and just fuck around in wow. remember when you had to walk everywhere. remember when you had to google up a quest just to find the mobs. remember when you put a group together and 2 of you had to summon. remember looking at someones gear and them clicking on your portal knowing you were checking them out. remember LFM 10 man NEED HEALER, LF Ret pally LF.
+coolstory92 Pepperidge farm remembers.
+coolstory92 i cri evrytiem
The north remembers.
No community.. that's why I quit.
Every time I look at Chance I just see his gangster brother smoking dat legalized weed.
Pewds u played wow?
Pewdiepie has played wow but ur on the wrong channel this is sodapoppins channel
-_-
STFU
that's why he wrote it here.... cuz it's a joke... if you get that joke then you would not say "wrong channel"
before the woosh... good times
when i play mmos and i get to endgame i make a new character, for me the journey is where i get my enjoyment. wow became far too easy. id return if i could play on vanilla.
+BobSamurai Anime Reviews Wow, surprised seeing you here! I agree with you definitely. It isn't just Vanilla though, I'd return if the journey to end game needed any effort at all. WoW's too convenient now which makes everything outside of mythics boring.
Looks like Blizzard needs to take a lesson from Runescape and listen to the damn players.
+Kyle Bennett all mmos need to do that actually. ESO is worse than this in regards to listening to players. They either delete the topic or lock it so ppl wont discuss it lol.
+Kyle Bennett And release an legacy client that's gonna plummet after 2 months? Brilliant
+Kyle Bennett RS is a java game
Base Plate The shit version ye
who would have thought after all these years of shiny new MMO's the only "WOW killer" was blizzard itself.
+Local Lion Right? everyone would say of Swtor is wow killer etc etc but always that like group of players/people would say WoW will be the only think to kill it off.
Leveling to 60 would take months. Classic comes out and they get lvl 60 in less than a week
For the average normal human that has a job/school and plays 1-5h a day. max.
Those guys that got to 60 slept once in three days
, shared the acc with someone else,
know everything about the game and practised to get afap to 60 for years.
@@maltesre9032 they just spammed the same dungeons
yea man people lvling to 60 in less then a week wasse only for mages! or pre made dungeon groups(aoe farming)!and or hunter.OR normal lvl"ers that got lucky and stayed before the big mass. u also have to take in consideration the SKILL LVL off these players. they all haid atleast privat server experience and planned this out for MONTHS!
So today if u are a normal player with 0 experience in wow or even classic and NORMAL GAMING HOURS.it will STILL take u months to get to 60's.
I really liked this. I think you should do this more often.
I've genuinely never really watched your stream or listened to much of your opinion but the emotion you had during this was overwhelming. I honestly want to know what it was like to play wow when you couldn't dungeon que and people walked the leveling areas. I have never considered what that would look like. Eye opening video.
3 years latter, we did it, we all smile.
and now we all cry
@@KnallenN why?
@@PalmeCardona because its not what we hoped for
@@KnallenN I mean, obviously the experience will not be the same as I was 15 years ago, but the game itself is basically the same.
+Frocky i fucking feel u man. i leveled so many accounts and all went through crossroads and the barrens. now days its just sit in Org :(
Also I think our nostalgia could be caused by the isolation that we find ourselves in our everyday lives.
I can totally relate to that. You actually hit me right in the loneliness feels.
true af
You're right on a lot of shit here.
Here's the difference though -
If someone joins wow now, they might like the game. But there's no now wow subscriber who falls in love with wow like we did. Even if a 14 year old picks up wow, he won't fall in love with it like we did. He'll just think it's kinda cool sometimes.
That's what kills me
Because it sucks now.
Fuckk this makes me sad :( haha.
We need this.
Back in classic we were farming for weeks if not months just to get the 100% mount. People used to lend each other money for it and we celebrated each other when someone finally got it.
Every single point you made here is legit. Thank you for the nostalgia :)
+noherczeg memories man.
But now the shit is so easy that any toddler can play and get epics.
im new to wow how much time does it take to get to 100? or maybe even 110 now
+Jure Gazvoda you can buy it or level which will take a new player without gear or gold maybe 48 hours of game play
"But now the shit is so easy that any toddler can play and get epics." I have to correct you there, since legion is a thing now: But now the shit is so easy that any toddler can play and get Legendaries and Artifacts (like fucking ASHBRINGER).
should link the petition in the description
Insane that this is more relevant now. Expansions may look better but theres no love for the game.
RIP Nostalrius No Fun Allowed.
I completely understand what you're talking about. Hopefully things will change
I miss back in the day when people usually only had 1 character at max level cause leveling took such a long time. Today everyone has a ton
your comments about arenas and rating required gear is somthing that actually got me sad. i never was a top player and never got full gear but i LOVED it! i remember getting to 1800 with my lock, and i now could buy my legs(?) item, its so many years ago but i can still remember the arena game ive played! i was so hyped and so damn happy. its just sad you can just buy it all now.
I would pay 60$ for vanilla again, along with 10$ a month and so would 90% of my friends that quit.
Wow, I haven't seen sodapoppin in a while. Is it me or does he seem more mature in this video?
same and I agree
+camaris lindquist
I never saw his content because he acted like a child.
This is the first vid I saw in years , he looks alot more mature.
who's here after wow classic was announced?

And here we are playing classic xd
@@abeziiiii Ahd here we are playing TBC Classic soon!!
100% agree, i got teared up... all the passion in your eyes chance
13/13 m raider and 2259 rating game fuckin sucks play cuz friends
+SKT Jatt archimode carry pls xx
+Zen Honestly if someone told me "Buy a sub, i'll carry you through the whole Mythic raiding and you get everything for free" i wouldn't.
I mean, what's to gain from that?
A retarded magical moose? I got a better one from the christmas event.
Gear that i can't fucking use because there's no content to use it in? Nah.
I'll pass.
Ikelos I'm joking I have the moose.
Ikelos Mythic isnt moose
+Ikelos pretty sure he was joking bud
SODA! This is great content! You should really consider doing this style of video more frequently on youtube. Seriously though
You're suprised when you pass someone in the street and they say 'hello!' As they walk by, but you love it
too lonely wow is. Garrisons are designed to play alone.
PPl make the game fun, not the game
Nicely hidden Coca-Cola advertisement in the backround there Kappa
World of Warcraft is now just a vessel for profit for Blizzard. They're relying on a brand name to sell a product that is not even close to the quality it used to be.
Over a year ago since this video was released I still agree with every single thing you said. I now play on another private server but keep my Blizzard account open to support them while I play on a private server. I am never ever on Blizzards own servers. Never. But daily on the private server with a LOT of other players who actually LOVE leveling, the PVP,, the community, the challenges, ect. It's awesome from 1-60 and it takes forever.
I agree 100%
It's good to see someone as invested in WoW as this putting their opinion out there.
Blizzard is their own worst enemy... the real WoW killer.
If Nostalrius comes back I'll shave my head... not sure why but that feels right.
Well technically it's not Nostalrius sooo....
Jk yeah I'll shave it. Super exciting too because we get our old characters back!
pvp nost or pve? horde or alliance? and names guys names lol
First PvP, Horde, Troll Shaman named Zulbiken
sooooo... :P
Daily Bluntllllll
I feel like a baby for wanting to cry about this but this game was my childhood i started at age 6.
Someone send this video to Blizzard ...
The petition is up to 190,000 signitures !!!!!!!!!
+keith gordon Shame it wont do anything
+Itlahic probably not but still
So, 6 months later every thing that publicitypoppin complained about current live wow at the time is literally happening right now every second as he plays legion.
Killua rt rt rt
I agree Killua
He didnt even wear the nos shirt to blizzcon in the end. This guys is no supporter of vanilla or our community as a whole, just another blizz fanboi plodding along playing whatever content they shove down his throat.
One of the main complains was that there was no content and now blizzard gives us plenty ( and they released new world quest and u have something to do) overall the game just got better as he wants to play it u guys are just fans from vanilla and dont want to play anything else, doesnt matter if the current game is good or not thats just the truth
you guys reek of butthurt, go outside..
RIP WoW.
They need to learn from Jagex.
right?? at least Jagex realized they fucked up and made the old servers come back, and look how much they are making off it.. now imagine a company as big as blizzard doing it. jeeze
Thing about legion is the leveling continues: artifact power, artifact knowledge, artifact skins, prestige levels and ranks, world quests.
Speaking of arena gear, the first time I got my 1800 arena weapon... I was so happy for like a week straight lol
And I 100% agree with everything you said.
why does he jump cut every half a second
+MirrorReality I've always wondered why youtubers do that
+Draconic Personnell Because long and uncut rants are usually boring to watch.
+MirrorReality Are you and idiot?
CJ Henline is understand why people do jumpcuts but there are so many that he cuts every 1-2 seconds
everybody that gave thumbs down is from Blizzard lol
I'm fucking sick of garrisons. The game has left its community behind.
its been left behind since xrealm got out of hand with the whole lfr/lfd shit
I feel you, I quit for the exact same reason ...
I just CAN'T love the game anymore, its impossible .... so horrible right now ...
As someone who's played since Vanilla, this hit the nail on the head. Well done, Soda.
