- Here's something I've been meaning to put up for a while now. Its Andy Kaufman versus Jerry Lawler from '82 and '83. Some of this stuff you'll have seen before but some you may not have. I used a variety of sources to pull this together. This is not EVERYTHING like with the McMahon Lawler feud, but it's everything I have. Still there's a lot of stuff here that you may not have seen before. Enjoy.

It was an act just to rile people up. Especially since it was during the women's movement. He didn't know how to be funny, so to get attention he would try to piss people off. That was his act. But, your wish came true because you got Trump now.
What comedians do best is they bring what is hidden to front stage and they put their own spin on it. If Kaufman was alive to see Trump as president I'm sure he'd have his own take on that.

Sacha Baron Cohen is not half as smart as Andy Kaufman. Andy was an artist. Cohen is a comedian who gets humor from shock comedy which doesn't require much talent. He is a shame to British comedy. Kaufman is a legend in American ART.
Probably the most elaborate and the greatest wrestling story line ever created... conceived by a comedy genius and a wrestling legend. Thank you Jerry, Vince McMahon Sr. and of course Andy for the memories.
Yea, Vince had absolutely nothing to do with it, except for maybe the fact that Andy went to him first and Vince sent him away cause he felt it would not work.

This is funny on quite a few levels. One being how sexist Kaufman's character was. You'd NEVER get away with this stuff in wrestling now. It was so awesome because everyone thought that he had actually lost his mind and was really the person his character was. Man Kayfabe was AWESOME!! Thanks alot Vince for ruining it for us all. Like it was a bad thing for your customers to actually believe in your product. That's why you'll never see a story line grab peoples interest like this again.
Every time I hear or see Andy Kaufman,reminds me how well Jim Carrey portrayed him.If you really think about it...if it wasn't for Kaufman,wrestling wouldn't of got out of Memphis...and onto other States and territories...so for that I'm grateful. But also maybe it would have,but none of the less...Kaufman assisted with making wrestling big just like Hogan did in his own right.

@BuddhaShiva1 Amen. To live in Memphis during this time was a treat. He used to send in videotapes instructing the people of Memphis on personal hygiene. Andy went to all the other wrestling promotions and they shooed him away. Memphis embraced the idea and it put Memphis and Jerry Lawler on the map forever.
Zmuda describes Andy not as a comedian but more like a sociologist. Kaufman like to test people and study the psychology of the mind. He knew how to get a crowd going, how to fool people right in front of their faces, how to make people laugh. He was so clever and original. If an act got old, Andy would reinvent it, unlike Sacha Baron Cohen. Cohen isn't copying Andy, he's just a prick.

Now, we all know what Andy's done in Memphis with lawler and leaving his mark in wrestling history but imagine if Andy pulled this schtick in places like the wwf,or maybe in wccw.......... if anything 0:07 he would have been fueding with the likes of wendi richter and cyndi lauper, and probably make Hogan's life a living hell the way he did to lawler (and I can only imagine how much heat andy would have gotten if he formed an alliance with bobby heenan) or if he had gotten under the skin of the von erichs or the fabulous freebirds. As entertaining as this was, it's too bad that andy didn't take this act to other wrestling promotions. I'm sure that he could have worked out some kind of deal with fritz von erich or vince mcmahon (Jr)

I never really gotten into Andy Kaufman until after the movie "Man On The Moon" which was such a great movie and defiantly one of Jim Carries best (well except for Truman Show)
