I used to play with these type of cars when I was a kid, and now they are available again is awesome. I have a fully upgraded Losi 5T and that has been sitting on the shelf for the last few years.
Many years ago I wrote to a company to do some aluminum control arms do the hotshot... Then one day a package arrived and it was a set of red anodized arms for the hotshot.. I just wish I could remember who the company was... I miss my hotshot.
Rear frp shock mount is hotshot hop up, later used on supershot, front shock uprights are hotshot hop ups, later used on supershot, the brace is the added aftermarket part. The colour is red chrome, they also did a blue chrome for the Avante, both shells were Japanese Market only 2018.
Wow nice addition to the collection. I had an original but the BESC broke and was not able to find a replacement and also lots of parts were broken and tossed it. Unaware of the value and aftermarket parts later to repair it. Got the re-release now stil in box.
That is absolutely gorgeous, I think you should clean it, check it and prepare a fairly gentle but twisty run for it, with a back to back run against the clock run alongside a mildly tuned hotshot. With some of those lovely upgrades it would be great to see the advantages. Whatever you do it's just not worthy of an empty car park run. Its bloodline and tuning really calls for a safe technical circuit. Beautiful car ❤️
Very nice! Please straighten the decals on the side pods-they are hurting my brain! RZ motor is a must, leave the roof (silver might look ok on the cage-maybe source another one and paint it then you can swap them around when you feel like it, they are only original once😁)
Hey Glenn beautiful Hot Shot bud!! My opinion for the buggy is paint the frame and driver, wrap the roof, put the new shoes on it, and leave the rest as is. But in all it's yours so do what makes you happy bud :)
Great looking car. Have Carlos Startin paint the driver. Not that you can not do great work yourself but he has done some really cool work. Together you can make thing look like a million bucks
Sound to me like you made your mind up regards the painting. Personally, I loved the fact it was blacked out at the rear when I first seen this. Brings more focus to the shell and wing without it being too busy. Anyway, like you said, it is only your time to sacrifice and if you you really want to try it you will regret not doing it. Great video as always. Cheers
DustyFingers No not at all, these were just my thoughts at the time. I enjoy doing this type of video, the feedback and input from you guys is awesome and makes all this more fun for me. As of right now I’m kinda against the paint idea 🤔🤷🏼♂️ Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
WOW I love how you do these videos. This brings back so many good memories. The first one I ever had was the Tamiya Grasshopper, then the Hornet, then I got the Hotshot. Then when I started racing I got spanked by an RC10 and came in 2nd place. This was way back in 1984 or 85. Man such good times and great memories. Thanks for these videos.
Congrats for adding this beauty to your collection Glenn! Hotshot is in my top 5 all-time favorite RC car list, and have admired that custom special many times on the groups. Amazing amount of cool kit on it! Looking forward to see it run, and your impression of how all the hop-ups work together vs a standard Hotshot.
Superb car with some great attention to detail. Defo yes to oval blocks. Same gun metal springs for the front. If the gearboxes need attention then you may as well replace. Keep the black spotlights as they add to the stealth look. Keep the silver roof as it complements the tower shocks and defo don't paint the roof rails or the driver. Basically the more you paint, the more it distracts from the star of the show, the shell. That all said it's your car so do what you want!
That’s stunning Glen!!!. For me it doesn’t need to much doing to it. New tyres are a must but it’s got look to it that suggests lots of custom work done on it which of course it has.... But it’s also got a vintage look going on as well if know what I mean... just take care of it Glen👍👍👍👍👍
Another late review - what a fantastic looking car Glenn, amazing in metallic red. In the 80s when we raced a Hotshot my dad built a similar chassis in fibreglass from a guide in Radio Race Cars/Model Cars Monthly but then fitted it with a fairly rubbish as they are at the time replica body. Would have loved these upgrades back then but most people at the club swiftly moved onto Optimas, RC10s and then the Schumacher Cat (definitely easier to clean with its undertray and snug body shell as we raced in mud often in the UK). Now keen to get a set of alloys for the new Hotshot I'm building for my 8yo.
Just thought, Glen...you could treat it to a pair of aftermarket TA01 front knuckles/uprights, in alloy. Their dimensions are the same as Hotshot 2 knuckles. Thorp used to make some back in the '80's, they fetch a lot these days! Any one of a number of China ebay sellers have the modern take on them in various colours ;)
Wow, that’s really an fantastic car, there is so much cool stuff in it. Lucas did an fantastic job. Really looking forward to see how your touches will look like, i think it will make it even better, because as you say that rear section is a bit dark. But looking on the motors, please use the rz motor in it or at least when it retires, because that red parts on that motor just fits perfectly to the red chrome body.
Hi Glenn, that red metallic body was on sale at tamico.de about a year ago. And I did not buy it. This is the best Hot Shot I ever seen, especially arms are superb.
Hi I love watching your videos and watching them has got me back into Tamiya from my child hood , I’ve finished working on my hotshot mk1 , I’ve managed to get a genuine grasshopper mk2 , and sorting out the super sabre and boomerang , , keep up with the vids and love your back drop 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah that thing is gorgeous, Tamiya spot lights YES but gotta leave the rest as it is lol the back does look dark but painted it might look a bit much and I think the black does give it a low profile look.... I always ran on hard packed dirt so for tyres I always preferred the Rough Rider tyres and a more realistic tread pattern but no idea if they would fit.
That's an amazing Hotshot..! Some real trick work. That's a supershot rear shock mount and they are Pargu wheels (phoenix copies essentially, I have a set) not Sees, sees never made any for Hotshot.
Congratulations Glenn, this is a beaut! As for changing things, this is a snap-shot of something that was a good as it gets back in the day, would be awesome to just clean it and leave as is, even down to the tires. It's perfect as it is but deffo needs a clean! You're clearly blown away by it so maybe remember why you fell in love with it and leave it at that my friend. Restore to perfection but nothing more is my vote :) To Ad: Cardon on the roof would look nice. Please don't paint the rear end, as it is it throws the allow arms out..maybe the frame work of the roof which would bring the front and rear together.
That is absolutely a stellar find!!! Thanks for sharing it with us. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing other than tires and the carbon fiber roof. And yeah, my OCD would say to center that wing sticker too! ;-)
Harry Bachmann Yeah I’m kinda with you on this right now Harry, tyres, carbon roof and new wing decal and call it done 🤩👊🏻 Thanks for your feedback my friend 👊🏻
Great Hotshot, it makes me want to buy one even more. If it's your car now, you do whatever you like to it to make it yours. I like the black chassis, though.
Hey glen i just joined the fb group.great video.awesome car.....im all for tricking rcs out to suit the owner.so i personally like the idea of customizing the cage.i can also appreciate leaving it alone to keep it "as it was" but you can always put it back the "way it was". Yeah try painting the cage!!! I bet it works out for ya!!
Great looking car. I would put an RC Channel front bumper on if you can get one. I just sold one otherwise I would have just mailed to you. The rear wing decal is always a dilemma as it’s supposed to be off to the left per the box. My OCD was having issues with that too 😂
Just new to the channel and you've probably already done most of the work but... For me paint the frame and carbon fibre the roof, that roof would look wrong with silver frame and its current colour. And you won't like this but keep the normal hotshot tyre's, it's one of the things I love about it! Lol, anyways looking forward to whatever comes. Cheers.
Very nice indeed! The body is just so cool looking I have the metallic avante body which was available at the same time from the perfect guide and I was offered a few months ago £400🤷♂️ for it because allegedly it's even more rare and sought after (I didn't sell it) super shot spiked tyres definitely👍.I personally wouldn't paint the frame I've seen to many painted frames and they just look a bit tacky IMO!
Phil Moffett Wow Phil that’s insane 😳 It is crazy to me why Tamiya made them so limited 😞 Yeah not sure about the frame yet, I probably need to get onto google and have a look at some that have been done 🤔🤷🏼♂️ Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
Ben Lloyd Yeah I was thinking about the diff upgrade but there expensive, I’ve already got a lot of cash tied up in this car 😬 Thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻
I owned the original when it first came out and broke one of the suspension arms the first jump I did. Man I was pissed because I really like the looks of the Hotshot.
What I don't get is how can it be so used and dusty and yet so free of scratches? Looks lovely though. Brings back memories. HotShot was I think the second car I assembled back in high school.
I always admired the Hotshot from a distance because I didn't like the single front shock. This looks fabulous, especially with the alloy arm set. I wonder what the weight difference would be between this and other standard Hotshot variants.
TAMIYA Legends don’t even loose any sleep over them types Glenn wow think your new addition looks absolutely stunning so much work and thought has gone into this car just beautiful 😍 it makes my eyes water though to think of how much this must have cost to build, I’d be broken hearted to let this buggy go ☹️😢😥 fantastic video made even better by the way you just fawn over the car and show us just how much she means to you 🙏🏻👍🏻 stellar job mate 😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It looks awesome as is, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. As you said, you can easily take it back to standard. As always man, great work. Thumbs up!
That is so sweet mate!!!! I did leave a comment what l would do but lost connection! Having internet issues Doh!!! Well just don't over do it buddy it's a vintage jewel😉👍less is more kinda thing!
Mad-Bee RC & BB Absolutely my friend your spot on, maybe I’ll just play with this in small steps lol 😂. Just add the new tyres and carbon roof and see what that looks like 🤔👊🏻 Thanks as always for your channel support it’s much appreciated
@@TAMIYALegends yeah Super shot tyres and paint the driver and l agree about the spotlights too! and the decals do look as if they could be better maybe but not a problem! Have you had a look in the gearbox yet? Probably an easy fix those diffs always wore out fairly quickly! Stunning chassis and l do remember seeing Hotshots like this back in the day! But the chassis was white But to be fair my slightly modified Boomer had them in check😉👍
Simon Winn Yeah if you google or eBay search Tamiya Dual Block tyres, the wheels will be there too. You will need to change the wheels adapters to hexes as well to fit them. There will definitely be cheaper non Tamiya tyres available, but unfortunately I’ve never used them.
that thing on the front shocks it between them think of that as a is a strut brace and it'll make it not lean as much in the turns it should turn more Flatley with it I think.
I think this might be simply the best looking RC I've ever seem. Just. Wow. Beautiful
Eli Kedrowski
Excellent glad you like it my friend 😊👊🏻
I used to play with these type of cars when I was a kid, and now they are available again is awesome.

I miss my hotshot.
Flying Fortress RC
Oh wow how cool is that 🤩
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that 😍👊🏻
I wouldn't change anything apart from a new set of tyres, I think it looks great as it is. That metallic red totally pops on the body.
Timmo
Excellent thank you 😊
thats just awesome! the 1980's were a good time for Tamiya fans..
I remember the first time I saw a Hotshot and I was just blown away with it..

Back in the late 80"s I painted the body Bright Pearl White and change the name on the hotshot decals to "NutShot' it was a hit at the track!
That got to be one of the sweetest hot shots around, the suspension looked like a modern race buggy.
A little change to the Cosmetic's wouldn't hurt.

I liked the spicky tyres they looked ace 👍

Awesome buggy, but there isn't much "Hotshot" left of it, is there. How does it drive?
That frame would look good in yellow against the red and black.
darkiee69
Oh that’s different, never thought of yellow 🤔

@@TAMIYALegends would look awesome
That’s a thing of beauty, stunning! Do you know where to get some road tyres to fit hotshot/Bigwig wheels? I’ve looked on eBay to no avail.
Simon Winn
I don’t Simon, the Tamiya road tyres I use are the dual blocks, but you’ would need the wheels as well for them 👊🏻
What are they then? Do they need special wheels too? I need to get some, are they on ebay
Simon Winn
Yeah if you google or eBay search Tamiya Dual Block tyres, the wheels will be there too. You will need to change the wheels adapters to hexes as well to fit them. There will definitely be cheaper non Tamiya tyres available, but unfortunately I’ve never used them.
I’ve just found them on google thanks . Nice looking tyre, some day K type and some say C type, what is that? Maybe hard or soft perhaps?
I would try & paint the back end silver, & do the roof carbon, see what it looks like,😀
Frame would look good in gold I reckon
Marietta Corsini
Oh that’s a great shout my friend 🤔. Thanks for your input, it’s much appreciated 👊🏻
Rear shock Mount off supershot. Hotshot 2 had boomerang rear suspension with shorter dampers

Excellent my friend, thanks for watching 🤩👊🏻
that thing on the front shocks it between them think of that as a is a strut brace and it'll make it not lean as much in the turns it should turn more Flatley with it I think.
When we was younger we drove them loved it broke it,fixed it ,now I wouldn’t use that buggy it’s to nice 👍
lyndon webber
