Even just five minutes using your process on a messy coffee table or shelf makes a huge difference. My mantra is: progress and only progress. Can’t thank you enough!
Take your house back is a life changing course! Over the years I have read and tried almost every decluttering strategy or book, only to fail over and over again. This course is so different and feels like it was made just for me and my brain. It has given me hope and strength!
Today already feels like 2025. So glad. I jumped up this morning and said: I am practicing for the New Year, so here I go! Just recd your Decluttering at the Speed of Life and am nodding and smiling as I read. You are my first effective Declutter Guru! 💕
I love your videos❤ I cannot tell you how much your “Where would you look for this first?” advice has helped me. A total game changer! THANK YOU ❣️❤️❣️❤️
I decluttered and organized all of my Christmas decor last year, I also invested in some organizing bins and it made such a big difference in set up and put away this year. Thanks for the container concept, it's such a big help.
This was perfect timing for me.. I was just thinking about you and thinking about asking you about what to do when you get to the take it there spot and it's cluttered as well. Thank you for answering at least three times in this video. Couldn't have been more perfect timing.
aw, I missed the live because i was decluttering..I have 18 contractor size bags of garbage and a recycle bin filled with paper and cardboard!! Took a break and caught the replay!
I wish I had an entryway but my house is open floor planning (right term?). When you enter my door you can see the whole living groom AND the dining room turned office/storage AND 3/4 of my kitchen. So to start in the most visible space still gives me an overwhelming amount of tasks to choose from.
Maybe start at the front door and work your way inwards? Every time you come home, you get a boost seeing the fruits of your labour. You will make progress, which naturally creates motivation, I promise you 💝 5 minutes matters and you can knock out so many micro tasks 🙌
I have a similar yet also opposite situation. Walk into just a staircase hallway. Then once upstairs turn and see kitchen, dining space, living space all of the apartment but the bedrooms down the hall.
Today I set out a side table curbside--gone in five minutes. I also decluttered parts of toy sets from Xmas (i.e. my kids only play with the baby doll and not the accessories.) Doing a broad sweep of the house to see what I can dump or donate!
We been doing it this week. Putting bags in a pile in the garage for op shop. We’ve cleaned out the spare room and hubby painted it today. We made a trip to drop off stuff and looked for a new print for that room. We didn’t find one we liked so bought nothing 😅 yeah 👍🏻
I have an ongoing list of things I want to declutter, specifically two rooms, but today I'm derailing everything to declutter my linen closet, because my hand really hurts and I need my arm sling and I can't find it. I know it's in there somewhere, but I just can't find it. Time to organize the linen closet. It hasn't been truly organized since I moved in 30 years ago, and never organized according to the way I live now.
I know. I know I know, start with the five steps. I'll have my trash can, and my donate box, and I will make sure I take things elsewhere if I run across them. I have my linen boxes that I asked for for Christmas, not knowing what I would use them for, but the linen closet sounds perfect. Plus, I'll be working left handed, or ONE handed. Pray for me, lol
To Aqua Sands re motivation: the thought struck me that why even trash seems overwhelming.... use step one (trash) in combination with the '5-minute- pick- up'.... Pick out trash for 5 minutes... see how you get on then the next day set the timer for a few minutes longer.... God bless. G Ire
First question seemed to rattle her a bit given its political reference and trying to avoid the chaos that is political commentary. To me - tariffs, natural disasters like hurricanes, or whatever may happen, Dana's process still applies even going beyond the trash step. As we work through it - if we come across something we didn't know we had and wouldn't think to look for it if needed it, then it's trash/duh donation because we'd end up buying it again regardless of the item being at a higher price (due to tariff, inflation, innovation, supply/demand, whatever may cause a price increase). We'd neither gain nor save anything by keeping the item because there's not a place that we'd look for it first because we wouldn't think to look for it. If you think you'd look for it, then her question "where would you look for it first?" applies and accept the realities of the space we have. Her process even takes the emotion out of political framed questions! Who knew!?
I get overwhelmed at clutter that i actually need( homeschool materials). How do you deal with that type of clutter? Also what advice to you give for opposite views on what to get rid of between couple's?
I’m in the same boat! If the homeschool materials deserve space, I need to have a space. I’m also going to prioritize my right-now life and not try to keep materials from my older two for my youngest. 🤪
I watch an episode of hoarders when I want motivation. Then mostly you just need to start in a small area and make a difference. It will provide more motivation.
I used to keep all my boxes for small appliances and electronics,I had boxes in my attic from long gone items. I have only need a box maybe two times to return a item that didn’t work and I discovered that the items were defective within a couple of weeks .
Create a “container”/space for where you will store these boxes. Once it’s full you keep the most important and get rid of the rest. Personally I have a spot in my garage where I keep the boxes from recent purchases for weeks to months and then get rid. I am keeping all the boxes from the phones we bought last year with the phone accessories bin since I may need the serial numbers etc or to resell.

Love having this playing while I am tidying the kitchen. Such a gift to be a part of this community.
‘Take it there now’ plays on repeat in my brain
@@susanjardim4431 that's what I need to do

I recently bought it but not started. I'm same as you with books/years etc so your comment gives me hope 😂
You don't know how much you've helped this 68-year lady. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Yes finding Dana was a lightbulb moment. She explained the creative brain thingy. 😂

Thanks for the surprise video. 🙂 Enjoying watching this while working on laundry.

Yes! It takes several times for me to have it sink in. 😂
The declutterring the craft cabinet was what got me started! Amazing how it just clicked!
Much appreciate putting the podcasts on RUclips! And when you can load up old episodes. Podcast apps was just way above my clutter threshold.

Buy a screen to create an entryway.
Yes, or a wardrobe to stand by your front door.
I have a similar yet also opposite situation. Walk into just a staircase hallway. Then once upstairs turn and see kitchen, dining space, living space all of the apartment but the bedrooms down the hall.
It helps me to take a picture from my doorway. It also becomes my before picture.
Definitely in declutter mode -- putting up Christmas and looking at what I can release instead of store it. Thank you!!
We love you! Have a wonderful and blessed 2025 ! 👍❤️

Took Goodwill stuff to the car the other day. A few more things to go. Now for Christmas decorations if needed.

The perfect amount of time for me to reorganise my pantry! Thanks as always Dana! ❤
❤ Happy New Year to you and yours Dana.🎉
Happy new year!!! 🎉🎉🎉
✨💞Thank you for going live! My motto for 2025 is “2025 taking action to thrive” for “2025 acting to thrive!”✨
Thank u! I am decluttering my sewing space in home office today
Wait, how did you know I was decluttering right now?? Lol
She's that good!!😊❤😂
SAME!❤

Yes to decluttering bananas!
Thank you

Wampy jawed! Never heard that one! Let's go decluttering bananas!
❤ that’s our technical term we use at work 😂
Its a good Texas phrase 😊
I get overwhelmed at clutter that i actually need( homeschool materials). How do you deal with that type of clutter? Also what advice to you give for opposite views on what to get rid of between couple's?
Re the couples question: work on your own things first. After watching you for weeks or months your partner will start to come on board.

I wish I'd realised this earlier, just caught the end of the video
What do you do with electronic boxes? I was taught to keep them. Why? No answers lol just because 😂
Keep in case you need to return or use warranty.

Thank you all for your replies! My coat closet is almost decluttered and organized
