I enjoy your style of tutorial. You are straight forward with explanation and you note your mistakes so others do not make the same ones. Han shot first! LOL
I'm another fan glad to see you back in action. Your video are inspiring and educational. Thanks for taking the time to share with the Shapeoko community!!
Agreed!! Definitely one of the BEST CNC channels on YT!! I just got a new Shapeoko 5 Pro this past Thanksgiving & Mr Clark is one of the BEST box builders, programmers & all around best tutorials & CNC channels there is on YT!! I downloaded a couple of his projects off Cut Rocket & they’ve turned out great!! Truly💯🎯
nice to hear from you john, always look forward to your videos, one day all this crap will be behind us and we will be back to swearing at our machines as normal.
Frank Klaus once commented that cabinet builders are really nothing more than "boxaligist". From huge case pieces to full kitchens all the way to jewelry boxes....it's just joining lots of pieces to make a series of enter twining boxes.
Glad to see another video up. I’m new to CNC and your videos have been a great help, many boxes have already been produced. What kind of finishes do you tend to use on your projects?
I don't think that the machine needs two points for referencing. That park position in the top right is for the limit switch. You are not using that position, though you could. Once you reference the corner of the stock, the machine knows how much to move given the steps / mm value determined by the stepper motor (and gears) and stored in the controller firmware.
JustChris47 pocket center and lip, plus .25 to include profile cut area, then cut lip to desired depth, then profile cut. Anyway you look at it it all has to get down to desired depth. Cutting anything beyond the profile cut area is extra time.
What would you sell a box of that size for without the engraving? I struggle with that as time seems to ad up fast. And small things seem expensive. Even when my cost per hour is lower than a lot I see the majority of the time. Higher than a few. Love your box! Nice work!
Wow... That's the eternal question. to be honest I am terrible at selling things and I tend to give most of my stuff to friends. For me, the size is less critical than the "embellishments." The wood cost is not huge, but the labor can be. A plain box is probably $20-25 and a decorated one is $30 - $35 or so. Mostly I do it for fun.
Nice work, and well put together video as usual John. What version of Carbide Create are you using here? It looks quite different from one, and I thought I had the latest.
Thanks so much. I am using Build 464, Built on: 2020-03-26 I have the Pro license turned on but have not used it yet. I hope to tinker with the 3D stuff soon, but the interface is way confusing.

I use the painters tape and CA your method too but I tend to give the non-CA glued side a quick spritz of accelerated to do away with the wait time.
Learning a lot. Thank you, Sir.
Nice work John.

Typically I use Watco Danish oil. It's a really easy wipe on / wipe off finish.

you could have just pocket the center to the thickness you wanted overall then the lip and then cut out to cut a little time off

Nice work 👍 how can i get or buy file?
Love the box. Where did you find your 251 endmill with the 1.5 in depth of cut? Carbide 3D shows their 251 has a .75 depth of cut.
Amazon: www.amazon.com/Amana-Tool-46399-K-Spektra-Extreme/dp/B079P7XR3Q It's actually 1.375 cutting depth.
Thank you John, I ordered the bit yesterday. It was the last one they had.😊
@@melissaberkemeier9261 Excellent! Glad you like the videos.

John Clark thanks for your response. I give a lot away to as gifts, also sell tho. Time is definitely a Hugh factor in This craft.
John where do you source your 1/4" x 1.5 cutting depth router bit?
I use Amana Specktra bits. Typically I just get them from Amazon.

@@johnearlclark Thank you. I need to update.
What software do you use?
I use Carbide Create and Carbide Motion. They come with the Shapeoko.
N95? Um, not so much 😂🤣
