7029 Clun Castle charges through Penkridge with the Ffestiniog Express! | 8/6/24

- Today's video is quite a bit shorter than originally planned, but I'd say that that's also it's forte! WR Castle Class 4-6-0 7029 Clun Castle was hauling Vintage Trains' "The Ffestiniog Express" from Dorridge to Blaenau Ffestiniog, passing through Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Crewe, Chester and along the North Wales Coast Line to Llandudno Junction where the diesel took the train up the Conwy Valley Line to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The weather was due to be largely grey, as is fairly common in the UK, and then become a little brighter during the day.
Originally I'd planned to include 34046 Braunton and 34067 Tangmere in the video as well as going more long distance for 7029, but the first problem arose when I overslept! This made me miss my first planned shot at Solihull. I just about made Penkridge, and could have continued with my plan, but I could tell that late running would result in me missing the next one at Crewe also. After 7029 absolutely smashed it through the station in the low seventies, I decided that the cost wasn't worth it for how few shots I'd be able to get so I sacked the remainder of the trip off. With the freedom given to me by my ticket I went back to Wolverhampton and picked up some supplies, before heading into Birmingham to spend the day with my secondary planner instead. I took her out later on to see 7029 noisily pull into and leave Platform 9 in Birmingham New Street! 7029 pulled in, smoking out half the station, before me nearly getting bowled by a late running 170 as she pulled in. A loud departure concluded the day.
Thank you to all who made this possible, including NR, VT, 7029 and her crews as well as WMR for my trains. Thanks particularly to my secondary planner for a lovely day. I hope you enjoy as I did!

Nice video mate I caught the Castle myself at Wolverhampton and I also saw Betton Grange and Lady of legend at the GWR yesterday.

I walked up to Bentley Heath crossing to see it leave Dorridge leaving my house at 3.30am lol, did go widney manor for the return but it had gotten a lil to dark for any decent shots
